Letter from Zenith The days darken fast! Clocks spin back in the UK but that hasn’t affected our activity within the Unite competitive scene. As the year ends, with everyone’s support, we continue to be motivated in bringing a better platform and provider for Unite fans.

Our Unite community, across the last 10 months, we’ve gone from being a completely non-existent entity to being one of the top 2 grassroot organisations for large online Unite tournaments. We’ve consistently and effectively been able to provide thrilling contests at the highest level.

Thank you! It’s because of you.

Now it's time for us to focus on another scene, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet beckons as the easy step over, which of course I am excited for as a huge long-standing fan. However, its Rivals of Aether 2 that has really peaked my interest.

We’re looking to set up a ton of Rivals 2 tournaments soon, so practice up!

THRONE OF AEOS Throne of Aeos [Season 3 by Polett] The highly anticipated Throne of Aeos Season 3 tournament just finished, offering competitive excitement and a thrilling gaming experience. Hosted by Polett, this season brought the best teams together to compete in a fierce battle for supremacy.

Format & Winner The tournament followed a Double Elimination format, ensuring an intense competition where teams had multiple chances to prove their worth.

Top 3 teams from each weekly qualifier advanced for the main event, with qualifiers scheduled every Friday!

Qualified Teams for the Main Event: ABCD, Wsh Frere, Neo Sentry Sucre, Buddy Barrier Bugas, Kayakobeme, Plus Ultra, Purple Juicers, Artosius’ Army The tournament culminated on 18 October with 9 teams battling it out for the ultimate victory.

The European scene was once dominated by the iconic Pump Weeklies, hosted by the renowned French caster Pump, who retired from the game after hosting more than 100 consecutive weekly events. INTERVIEW WITH OBUYAN I am a MOBA player with 11 years of experience and a deep passion for the genre. I began playing Pokémon Unite while also competing in Mobile Legends with a team called 10sGaming.

However, Japan did not qualify for the third World Championship, and for the third consecutive time, Japan was not given a slot in the competition. Since official tournaments have stopped in Japan, making a living through competitive gaming here has become challenging, so I’ve shifted my focus.

Currently, I am part of a professional team called INSOMNIA. Although I’m not the team leader, I was invited to join.

What do you think about the new patch?

I don't know until the Darkrai's hype settles down, but the former Ex Pokémon are very strong.

What do you think about the new ACL? (Which Pokémon do you think will be the most popular?)

I think the former EX Pokémon will play a big role in the ACL. Also, most of the game is decided in the early stages. "Only active against Rayquaza" such Pokémon will not be active.

I would like to play against all teams. Sorry, I can't name two special teams. We want to fight all teams!

What do you think makes the competitive scene in Japan different compared to other regions?

I think it is the ability to make individual decisions and physicality. Overseas, MOBAs are famous for their group fights and groups are very good. But Pokémon Unite's MOBA is special, so it is not all about group battles. Japan is very good at this "other than group battles".

REJECT The first Japanese team to sign up, REJECT, originally known as JSV No Title, rose to prominence with a 3rd place finish in the Pokémon Japan Championships (PJCS), earning a spot at Worlds 2024. Despite being eliminated early at Worlds, REJECT has been a trailblazer in Japan’s UNITE scene.

JAPANESE ROSTERS ZETA, once known as Kabichans, quickly earned a reputation with wins in the Winter Series and a 5th place finish at Worlds 2024.

JAPANESE ROSTERS This organization joined in September, featuring key players from successful teams like Medetashi. With seasoned competitors, Yoshimoto is quickly establishing itself as a contender.

AXIZ, a new competitive Pokémon UNITE team, was announced in October 2024, led by former Unite Holic players Yupono and Polin. The roster blends experienced talent like Laby, Shiel, and Bagel, with Omutero as an analyst.

JAPANESE ROSTERS Nagoya OJA Joins Pokémon UNITE with Hotaru-no-Ken at the Helm Nagoya OJA has officially entered the competitive Pokémon UNITE scene, with Hotaru-no-Ken—also known as Hotaken—leading the charge. While the esports organization has been active in other competitive games, this marks their first venture into UNITE, with the roster still largely a mystery aside from Hotaru-no-Ken.

PAX Australia ~ Kelosaurus One of the most anticipated and biggest annual gaming conventions, PAXAus, once again successfully welcomed home thousands of people to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia for their three day long event in October. With many things to see & do, content creators, cosplayers and game lovers in general, gathered together in celebration of all things gaming & gaming culture.

There was something for everyone at the venue with a massive Expo Hall that featured a tonne of games to try out from independent and major video game developers and publishers, along with a huge tabletop games section too. There was a variety of merchandise & tech exhibitors to check out, with some doing giveaways to hype up the crowd.

Numerous panels and tournaments were also hosted for people to participate in or watch, where Lobo, one of the Ingage casters, got the chance to cast in the PAX Arena for the Golf with Your Friends Tournament Finals and did a spectacular job.

While there were no major Pokémon exhibits this year, the Pokémon community were able to find joy exploring the numerous vendors selling different Pokémon goodies such as clothing, plushies, hand made Pokéball terrariums & keyrings. Cherry Collectibles made a return this year, which was the first place I bolted to when doors opened as I always enjoy sifting through their TCG Singles for cards to add to the collection or taking a chance at their mystery boxes. Blackmilk, an Aussie clothing brand, also made their first-ever appearance at PAXAus this year, featuring their licensed Pokémon collection that I saw many people rocking and looking fabulous. In addition, it was great seeing so many cosplayers dressed up as different trainers or Pokémon and it was fun getting to chat and take photos with them around the venue.

PAX Australia ~ Kelosaurus However, one of the biggest highlights for myself and many others each year is the Pokémon community meetup and this year did not disappoint as we had one planned for each day of the event.

The Pokemon Australia Meetup organised by content creator Jofriendly was a fantastic way to wrap up the Friday evening and had a lively atmosphere, even after a long day at the convention. The Pokémon UNITED meetup on Saturday that I organised, was our 3rd year getting together and brought back Packs at PAX, a TCG pack opening battle to see who could pull the best card, which is always a blast. It was lovely seeing community members get the chance to catch up with friends, but also meet other Pokémon fans and share friend codes, trade Pokémon or battle each other.

PAX Australia ~ Kelosaurus There was also the weekend-long community-run event, PAX Pokémon League (PPL) which celebrated their 10th Year Anniversary. Organised by Snowyalice and Shardstorm, Pokémon trainers had the opportunity to challenge Gym Leaders in a VGC battle for a chance to earn their badge. By collecting 8 Gym Badges and 2 Elite Badges, trainers could then take on the Champion and become a part of the PPL Aus Hall of Fame (and earn themselves bragging rights of course). While I didn’t collect all the badges, it was fun participating and getting to watch others battle.
