Stanbrook Abbey Worcester

For more than 150 years, Stanbrook Abbey was home to a community of Benedictine nuns, whose legacy remains woven into every corner of the estate. Originally built as Stanbrook Hall in 1755, the property was transformed throughout the 19th century into a remarkable Gothic Revival abbey, with striking additions designed by members of the renowned Pugin family. From the soaring Callow Great Hall and impressive bell tower to the historic printing press and extensive ecclesiastical libraries, the abbey became a centre of worship, learning 12

and craftsmanship. Following the nuns' departure in 2009, the estate entered a new chapter, reopening as a magnificent country house hotel to be enjoyed by guests. Today, Stanbrook Abbey Hotel seamlessly combines beautifully preserved heritage with modern hospitality, making it one of the Midlands' premier destinations for meetings, events and special occasions. From its dramatic stone cloisters to its Gothic stained-glass windows, guests can experience a unique and authentic glimpse into life at a historic abbey.

Leeds Castle Broomfield

Leeds Castle can trace its history back to the 11th century, having been recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, where the Manor of Esledes was listed as the property of Odo, Bishop of Bayeux and half-brother of William the Conqueror. Over the centuries, Leeds Castle evolved from a formidable medieval stronghold into one of England's most celebrated royal residences. Between the 13th and 15th centuries, successive monarchs left their mark on the estate, adding towers, gatehouses, royal apartments and defensive walls. During this period, the castle became a backdrop to political intrigue, royal power struggles and historic sieges. The story of Leeds Castle continued beyond the Tudor era.

Passing through the ownership of several influential families, the castle underwent grand Jacobean and Gothic-inspired renovations before extensive restoration work in the 19th century helped secure its future. It reached new prominence in the 20th century under Lady Baillie, whose elegant redesigns established the estate as a renowned country house frequented by royalty, statesmen and members of high society. Leeds Castle is now one of England's leading visitor attractions, welcoming more than 600,000 visitors each year. Alongside its rich heritage, the estate hosts weddings, conferences and special events, while continuing to preserve its magnificent gardens and historic interiors for future generations.

Exeter Rougemont Hotel by Sunday Exeter

Exeter Rougemont Hotel traces its origins back to the late 19th century, having been built on the site of the former Exeter Borough Prison before opening its doors as The Rougemont in May 1879. Constructed over the remains of the original city prison, the hotel retains a fascinating connection to its past, with the flagpole at the front of the hotel marking the spot where prisoners used to be hanged. Construction began on 24 January 1876 under The Devon and Exeter Hotel Company, with the foundation stone laid on 1 April 1877 by Mrs Moore Stevens, wife of the company's chairman. 16

The project represented a significant investment, with building costs of £21,000, alongside £5,000 for fittings and £6,000 for furnishings. Since opening in 1879, the hotel has welcomed countless guests, conferences and events. Today, Exeter Rougemont Hotel by Sunday combines Victorian character with contemporary comfort, offering elegantly designed rooms, modern British dining and versatile event spaces in the heart of Exeter. One of its most distinctive historic features remains the beautiful stainedglass window, which continues to reflect the hotel's rich heritage.

Delta Hotels St. Pierre Country Club Chepstow

For centuries, St. Pierre Country Club has stood at the heart of one of South Wales' most remarkable estates, where history, heritage and hospitality come together. The former manor house invites guests to experience a rich legacy shaped by royalty, influential families and historic events. The property takes its name from the de St. Pierre family, who were granted the land following the Norman Conquest. Over the centuries, St. Pierre became associated with notable figures, including King Henry V, who famously entrusted the Crown Jewels to Sir David de St. Pierre as security for a loan to support his campaign in France. In the late 15th century, the Lewis family inherited the estate and

completed the construction of the grand mansion and tower that remain defining features of the property today. The grand house played an important role during the Second World War, providing refuge for children displaced by the Blitz. After changing ownership several times throughout the 20th century, the property entered a new chapter with Marriott International in 1996. Today, the hotel effortlessly blends character with comfort and first-class facilities. From impressive architecture and tranquil parkland to its championship golf courses and versatile event spaces, guests can enjoy a unique connection to the past while experiencing all the benefits of a modern countryside retreat.

A day in the Life of...

Heather Notman Business Development at Resorts World

In this interview, we catch up with Heather, one of Resorts World's Business Development professionals, to discuss her career journey, the ever-evolving events industry, her favourite spaces across the venue, and why Resorts World continues to stand out as a unique destination for meetings, conferences and unforgettable experiences.

01775 843410 Monday to Friday, 8.30am -5.30pm

How long have you worked at Resorts World? I started work at Resorts World in November 2021, originally as a Groups and Events Coordinator and then progressed into Business Development. What does your job involve? My job involves a range of different elements, from supporting the sales teams in their day-to-day activities to working on large-scale group bookings and bringing in new business to different areas of Resorts World. What do you find most challenging in your role? I'd say the most challenging part is that the job is ever‑changing. The industry never sits still and is constantly evolving, but so is Resorts World, so it keeps you on your toes. That’s also part of what I love about my role too.

What's been the best advice given to you? You don’t sell a venue; the client buys into the venue and you. If you have a good product and you make the client feel looked after and cared for, you won’t need to sell it to them. I was only told this recently, and it completely adjusted my style and approach to sales. What's the best part of your job? And least favourite? The best part of my job is how varied it is; there really is no two days the same, and I get to be involved in a lot of different tasks and projects, which keep things really interesting. I also get to be creative, which I love! My least favourite part of the job is having to use Excel. I am getting better at it, but it still feels like a greyscale, unsolvable puzzle to me most of the time!

What's been your most memorable event? There have been so many memorable events over the years that it’s hard to choose just one. Our versatile event spaces have hosted an incredible variety of experiences, with rooms transformed time and time again to bring different visions to life. From immersive jungle-themed celebrations and glamorous Oscar‑style awards evenings to influencer events and brand showcases, every event has brought something unique. Seeing our spaces continually reimagined and adapted to create unforgettable experiences is what makes them so memorable.

Do you have a favourite meeting room and why? My favourite event space has to be the Lake Lounge. For years I would’ve said The Apartment because of its natural daylight and relaxed, stylish feel, but since the Lake Lounge’s recent £100k refurbishment it’s become a real standout. It’s such a versatile space that works just as well for conferences and meetings as it does for weddings and parties, and it’s always great seeing how different clients transform it to make it their own. Th feedback has been amazing, and it’s quickly become one of our most popular event spaces. 01775 843410 Monday to Friday, 8.30am -5.30pm

What's your favourite dish on the menu? I am loving the Thai Green Risotto at the moment; it’s so fresh! It’s on our Sky Bar and Restaurant menu, as well as our private dining menu. The vegan pancakes from the breakfast menu are incredible too! What are the catering options for delegates? We have a large variety of catering options available to delegates, from formal three‑course meals, and hot or working buffets, all the way through to canapés. We also have options for private dining within Sky Bar and Restaurant too, as well as two wonderful bars, Highline Bar and Lounge and World Bar, meaning we can really create a bespoke dining experience to fit the requirements of any booking.
