DAYO-M GOOD FOOD, DAYO-M GOOD VIBES

Dayo is the brunch spot of your dreams.

From the legends behind George’s Deli in Kingscliff comes a bold new brunch spot that’s already turning heads on the Tweed. Say hello to Dayo, a waterside wonderland serving up flavour-packed plates and good vibes all day long.

Taking over the light-filled café side of the Ancora building on Wharf Street are doublethreat chef power couple Johnny Ang and Jerrika Guiang, and Johnny’s sister Kristyn Ang, a chef with kitchen chops of her own. Together, they’re making big power moves with the launch of their second foodie venture.

Dayo, which means “visitor” in Filipino, is a word that hits close to home for the trio. They

are all immigrants from the Philippines who’ve brought with them the rich tradition of starting the day together, gathered around the breakfast table. Now that they all call Australia home, they’re inviting us into their home rituals, with a stacked menu and river views too.

And what a home they have created. Wander into the white-washed building and be swept away to a mini paradise.

They’ve pulled out all the stops, bringing in Kobi Concepts (the interior designer for George’s) to work their magic on this space too. The team haven’t just embraced the location, but celebrated it, with picnic tables out under the jacaranda tree and sun-kissed balcony seating that overlooks the river and island across.

Retro fittings and pops of colour like a pink ceiling, green chairs and blue-and-white-striped upholstery all create a welcoming space that complements the very modern menu.

Now let’s dive into that menu!

The trio have taken the flavours we know and love from George’s Deli, but levelled it up into a gourmet brunch offering. Think Filipino roots, Southeast Asian spice with a Mediterranean twist. Chef’s kiss!

Benny-San is calling your name (and ours), featuring your choice of pork chasu or teriyaki mushrooms, served with two poached eggs milk loaf, hollandaise spicy sesame seeds and herbs

Wrap your lips around finger-lickin chicken with the K-POP Chicken Waffle – snowy cheese fried chicken, waffle pickled radish, spicy maple, roast pepper and tomato mascarpone.

Like to start the day on a sweet note? The Strawberry Matcha French Toast is already a fan fave, with white chocolate matcha sauce, matcha ice cream, fresh strawberries and milk crumbs.

There’s a dedicated menu for the kiddies to keep them happy, and Ground Control coffee to keep you smiling too.

If you’re looking for the most instagrammable drink in town, you need to order the Ube – a vibrant purple number made with ube, a yam native to the Philippines.

Too much matcha? Never! Other speciality drinks include iced matcha your way – with your choice of strawberry, blueberry or peach mango

And because you’re definitely going to want a little something to take home (or eat on the riverbank), don’t skip the cabinet full of the famous George’s Deli donuts on your way out.

AKA DELICIOUS

Fusion fine-dining and fancy cocktails await at AKA Asiatique Dining & Bar.

Warning: things are heating up and we’re not just talking about the weather. Northern GC’s dining scene just cranked up the spice dial.

AKA Asiatique Dining & Bar, also known as Paradise Point’s hottest new eatery, is already making waves with its mouth-watering menu and cocktails that are seriously next level.

Behind the venture is Akaradon Boonyarit, a Thai-born chef who’s spent almost two decades stirring, sizzling and saucing his way through kitchens across Australia. After nearly 20 years of working in hotels and international restaurants, the youngest sibling in his family decided it was time to plate up a dream of his

own. And so, AKA was born, literally named after the first letters of his given name. But Akaradon’s love for his family is at the heart of why he opened it.

“I wouldn’t have this opportunity without my brother,” Akaradon said. “He has always supported me. Even though we don’t get to be together often, it’s always better to have a brother than to be alone.”

The restaurant’s build was led with care thanks to Chanvit Kasiolan, who helped bring the chef’s vision of a stylish, plantfilled, modern space to life. Think clean lines, lush greenery, warm tones and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger long after dessert. With seating for 50 inside and 20 more alfresco, it’s intimate yet buzzing, perfect for both date nights and family banquets.

But let’s be honest, when it comes to AKA, it’s all about what’s on the plate that’s really stealing the show. This isn’t your average Asian fusion. Akaradon and his team are bringing bold, inventive dishes to Paradise Point, the kind you usually have to travel (or scroll Instagram endlessly) to find.

Start with the Watermelon Sashimi served with sesame yuzu soy, nori crunch and sorrel

Fresh, vibrant and totally unexpected, one bite and you’ll see why it’s quickly becoming their signature.

The Miso Glazed Eggplant is a melt-in-yourmouth crowd pleaser, smothered in caramelised miso, whipped tofu and nori crunch.

For something heartier, the Massaman Lamb featuring lamb rump, roasted coconut, cumin, cinnamon and potato is a hug on a plate, slowcooked to perfection with that unmistakable Thai balance of spice, sweetness and comfort.

And the cocktails? They deserve a standing ovation. Playful names like Be Your Man(go) hint at the fun to come, while the flavours of Chilli Mango Gin, Tropical Syrup and Dried Mango are

just as punchy as the food. Pair one with your sashimi or curry, and suddenly your quiet dinner turns into a full-blown celebration.

Paradise Point isn’t exactly short on eateries, but AKA fills a niche that’s been missing, a truly contemporary Asian dining experience that fuses tradition with innovation. It’s a little slice of Bangkok-meets-Bali-meets-Byron, right here on the Gold Coast.

READY, SET, DOUGH

Italia Moto Pizza & Gelato is bringing a wheelie good time to Helensvale!

Start your engines northern GC, there’s a brand-new pit stop in town! Italia Moto Pizza and Gelato has steered into Helensvale, and it’s running circles around its competition.

Italia Moto Pizza and Gelato celebrates owners Nicholas and Candice Martinis’ Italian heritage. When Nick’s family arrived from Southern Italy in 1955, they brought with them a legacy of flavour and tradition.

Fuelled by childhood memories of summer holidays visiting his grandparents in Calabria, Nick was passionate about carrying that legacy forward, honouring the past while firing up the culture for future generations.

Nick first channelled this passion for his culture into storytelling, creating a series of comic books called the Italia Moto Cup. The comics rev through all 20 regions of Italy, racing iconic vehicles, munching on the country’s best pizza and cooling down with gelato along the way.

Fast-forward to today, and those stories have now turned into a culinary adventure in Helensvale!

Parked up beside the 7/11 service station in Helensvale, Italia Moto is a slick Italian classic restaurant with a modern tune-up, decked out with nods to Nick’s Moto Cup characters thanks to Inject Design Wellington and AMS Commercial Solutions.

In the kitchen, chef Bruno Orlando Ibanez of both Spanish and Italian roots cooks with flavours he remembers from childhood. He’s teamed up with Alberto Gomez who trained under Michelin Star Chef Inaki Bretal in Spain, and together they’re steering the menu into delicious territory.

And the menu is where the fun really accelerates. Each pizza represents a region of Italy, a slice-by-slice Grand Prix across the country.

Head to the Italian countryside with Bruno Pancetta – San Marino with Truffle Cream Base, Marinated Potato, Pancetta and Parmesan Or go coastal with Giovanni Gamberi – Sicily featuring Pesto Base, Mozzarella, Cherry Tomato, Marinated Prawns in Garlic, Lemon and Chilli

And don’t worry pasta fans, there’s plenty of ribbons to rev your engine. Tuck into a classic Lasagna di Manzo with Bolognese sauce, mozzarella, parmesan and bechamel cream Polpette Con Cipolla Caramellata with spaghetti, pork mince and pancetta meatballs, cooked in caramelised onion sauce

Of course, no Italian race is complete without a gelato pit stop. Italia Moto dishes up classics like salted caramel, chocolate, strawberry and lemon, with toppings ranging from marshmallows to gooey sauces guaranteed to keep the kids and adults riding sugar highs until the finish line (or bedtime, whichever arrives first).

The espresso bar will keep you fueled up, or you can get fizzy with Italia Moto’s retro-style sodas from their very own Moto Fuel line. We highly recommend combining a scoop of gelato with a Moto Fuel creaming soda or an espresso for a classic affogato

And because every great race deserves souvenirs, you can grab comic books and merch before heading off. Rumour has it, the Moto Cup characters may soon roll in for meet-and-greets too.

Trust us, Italia Moto Pizza and Gelato is one culinary ride you don’t want to miss.

FLAVOUR IS IN THE AIR

Meltemi Mediterrania brings a fresh Mediterranean breeze to Broadbeach.

Is that a summer breeze drifting across the GC? No, it’s a fresh gust of flavour blowing through Broadbeach! Meltemi Mediterrania, named after the summer winds of the Aegean, is the newest culinary escape from the team behind Xenia Grill, and it’s serving up a full-blown Mediterranean odyssey.

Owners Dino and Kate Georgakopoulos, the legends who brought us Xenia Grill at Main Beach and Coolangatta, have teamed up with hatted chef Tapos Singha (yes, the culinary maestro who’s worked at Miss Moneypenny’s, est, and Gowings Bar & Grill).

Together they’ve built a menu that sails across the entire Mediterranean, from the spice markets of Morocco to the cliffs of Kastellorizo, all while paying homage to the Greek roots that started it all.

Meltemi Mediterrania is what happens when the Mediterranean coast meets the Gold Coast. Curved walls and archways channel that sun-soaked seaside style, while rich drapery ripples like a sea breeze drifting in from the Med. Space Cubed Design Studio have done it again with their Euro-inspired interior, transporting you to Europe with wall features like a sun-soaked image of colourful houses clinging to cliffs as a backdrop and a beautiful bronze-hued mirror behind the bar that’s basically begging for a cocktail cheers at golden hour.

And the food? Let’s just say this is no ordinary mezze.

Tapos’ menu isn’t just about mixing Mediterranean cuisines, it’s about telling a story. Every dish and every spice has a history, and warning: every bite may cause spontaneous plate smashing and uncontrollable urges to dance.

Start your journey with crudo and raw

delights like freshly shucked Tasmanian oysters or local bluefin tuna tartare paired with preserved lemon. Then dive into house made Piadina, Italian soft flatbread, taramasalata or saganaki

Mezze plates bring new meaning to “sharing is caring”. Think Southern Italian-style lightly fried cuttlefish, prawns and whitebait or grilled octopus skewer with caperberry, lemon, pimenton and romesco

Meltemi Mediterrania is all about gathering the crew together for a big flavour feast, where conversation flows as easily as the ouzo

The true showstopper is the rotisserie, a slow turning traditional Cypriot grill, front and centre in the dining room like a sizzling work of art.

Choose your own adventure with traditional Lebanese-spiced chicken, slow-turned on the rotisserie spinning alongside Greek-style pork neck and Turkish Köfte made with wagyu beef. Pair your meats with a supporting cast of vegetables and sides like Turkish Pilaf or deliciously crispy twice-cooked potatoes

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Mediterranean feast without something to toast with. The drinks list is an island-hopping holiday in itself with ouzo, mastiha, limoncello and Aperol cocktails to keep the good times rolling, paired with an international wine selection spanning Italy, Spain, Greece, Australia and New Zealand.

Whether you’re chasing that Euro-summer high or just craving a little Mediterranean magic, gather your crew and channel your inner seaside sun god or goddess at Meltemi Mediterrania.

ESCAPE TO CAPRI

Capri on Via Roma makes every day feel like a vacay.

Capri on Via Roma sits pretty on the Isle of Capri. No, not Italy’s Capri, this is Queensland’s own sun-soaked slice of la dolce vita, with the Surfers Paradise skyline sparkling in the background. This gem is equal parts marketplace, foodie haven and lifestyle hub where errands turn into adventures and your weekly shop can finish with an Aperol spritz and a sunset view.

The open-air design brings that unmistakable piazza energy, a marketplace alive with chatter, clinking glasses, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air. You can wander between boutiques for unique gifts while also ticking

off everyday essentials (yes, there’s a pharmacy, post office, gym and more). Convenience has never looked so chic.

If holidays to you mean feasting (and when don’t they?), this is your gourmet playground. Harris Farm Markets takes centre stage with vibrant artisan produce, ready-made delights, and cheese wheels so big they could double as dinner party centrepieces.

Add in golden loaves from Bisou Bakery and espresso bars like South Coast Coffee Co. and Urban Fix Espresso serving up perfect pick-me-ups, you’ll see why you might want to stay a while.

When it comes to dining, Capri has more options than Italy has pasta shapes.

Bring the whole family to Manolas Deli Bar Bistro, a relaxed but stylish spot offering pizzas, pastas and antipasti that are made to share.

Gather the girl gang and head to Isla Bar & Dining to sip frozen Aperol margaritas while soaking up the dazzling water views.

For a romantic night out, spice up date night at Valyn Thai Restaurant & Bar, where fresh oysters and spanner crab dumplings will make your evening unforgettable.

Looking for elegant waterfront dining?

Edgewater Dining & Lounge Bar is a local favourite, perfect for long lunches that linger into evening cocktails.

But just like any well-planned Euro trip, you’ll find that there’s always more to explore!

And here’s the real sweetener: free parking! With 170 basement spaces plus street-level options, it’s easy to drive straight into your vacay. Or, if you’re feeling extra bougie, arrive by boat and dock at the marina, or make it a mini adventure by hiring a GoBoat from Capri on Via Roma. Cruise with friends or family, enjoy a picnic on the water, and kick off your shopping spree with a splash of fun!

The magic of Capri on Via Roma lies in its blend of luxury and lifestyle. You can pick up pantry staples, squeeze in a workout, then reward yourself with gelato, a glass of wine or an indulgent dinner by the water. It’s everyday convenience, wrapped in holiday vibes.

So swap crowded malls for a destination that makes shopping feel like a European getaway. No suitcase required, but shopping bags are highly recommended.

THE PERFECT FIT

DeBra’s has you covered.

Let’s be honest, few things in life are as transformative as finding the perfect bra. It lifts more than just your mood (wink), elevates your outfit and improves your posture, all in one (bra). They’re multitaskers, just like us. But we women know, not all bras are designed equally, and not all fittings measure up. With that in mind let us formally introduce you to DeBra’s.

Founded by the fabulous Deborah Kinney, DeBra’s has been helping women find their perfect fit for over 25 years. What started as a modest Sydney boutique in Wentworthville has blossomed into one of Australia’s most trusted lingerie destinations. Lucky for us, the Gold Coast was graced with one of its beautiful boutiques in 2021 (and we’ve been

shopping there ever since).

Forget the awkward measuring tapes and rushed retail experiences – that kind of service is beneath DeBra’s. Fittings at DeBra’s feel luxurious, personalised, and empowering. Their expert fitters take the time to guide every guest through a private, unhurried session, helping women of all shapes and sizes (from 6-36 bands and A-KK cups) find lingerie and swimwear that genuinely fit and flatter.

After recognising a lack of stylish, supportive lingerie options for fuller-busted women, Deborah set out to create a solution. Drawing from her own lived experience, she wanted to empower women with an inclusive, and expert fitting experience – and a product line to match. Her vision was simple yet powerful: to provide women with correctly fitted bras that are beautiful, comfortable, and affordable. What began as a desire to help women feel amazing through expert fittings has grown into a successful business built on expertise, empathy, and a commitment to inclusivity. That’s DeBra’s!

DeBra’s carries one of Australia’s most varied ranges, from everyday staples to sportswear, shapewear, maternity wear, and specialised

mastectomy wear with prosthesis fittings. Whether you’re looking to refresh your daily essentials or want to feel like a goddess in lace, there’s something beautiful waiting to support you – quite literally.

Their Broadbeach boutique is a French Provincial – inspired space where elegance meets coastal sophistication. BIKES AND BREWS

Fuel your ride at Che Cafe & Bikes.

You’ve seen the weekend packs of Lycraclad cyclists rolling in for their post-ride caffeine fix. The humble “coffee ride” has become as much a part of cycling culture as the Tour de France. And now, thanks to Che Cafe & Bikes, Broadbeach Waters has the perfect pit stop to celebrate it.

At its heart, Che Cafe & Bikes is a tandem ride. Noel Charpentier, originally from Chile, brings the mechanical precision and passion that can only come from a lifetime on two wheels. With over 16 years in the cycling world, he’s competed internationally, taught mountain biking at some of Chile’s top schools and developed expertise in high-end bicycle service. For him, cycling is more than a

sport, it’s a culture built around craftsmanship and community.

Ana Pedroza has spent her life immersed in community, and nearly two decades of working in restaurants, hotels, cafes and events across Argentina and Australia have only deepened that connection.

Noel and Ana met here on the GC, where their shared love for coffee and cycling began to merge into a bigger vision. Life took them to Perth at the time, and a plan to create a space that celebrated both their passions emerged. By 2024, they had returned to the Gold Coast ready to shift things into gear.

The pair spent a year searching for the right spot before finding a space in Broadbeach Waters that simply clicked.

Designed by Andrea Paredes of Sensa Living, Che Cafe & Bikes feels less like a business and more like your most stylish friend’s living room, if your friend also happened to serve Argentinian pastries and fix carbon-fibre road bikes.

The cafe exudes mid-century cool with a dash of punk rock. Cyclists can roll right up to the bike workshop, while those taking a more leisurely pace can settle into the communal tables.

A neon sign beams from the wall declaring, “When in doubt, pedal it out” but Ana and Noel should add “and eat empanadas” to the motto, because their golden pockets are that good.

Fuel your ride with Ana’s traditional Argentine empanadas loaded with savoury minced beef, onions, capsicum, egg, olives and spices or go veg with a protein rich creamy spinach (bechamel), fetta, onion and spices

Sugar cravings? Get your fix with flaky medialunas filled with sweet dulce de leche, custard cream, nutella and banana or coconut dulce de leche (Ana’s answer to an almond croissant, but better!)

Coffee can be canned on the spot for riding convenience, but if you’re staying a while, Che cafe also serves mate, a traditional Argentine herbal tea made from dried yerba mate leaves, sipped through a metal straw called a bombilla from a distinctive, gourd-shaped cup. This drink is said to increase focus and physical performance. Need we say more, mate?

On ya bike to Che Cafe & Bikes!

TINY KITCHEN, HUGE FLAVOUR

Kemuri Kitchen, the hidden izakaya with a cult following.

Tucked between a laundromat and a local Thai restaurant on Pappas Way in Carrara, there’s a little spot doing big things. And when we say little, we mean it, blink and you’ll miss it. But those in the know? They’re already hooked on bao, yakitori and a sake list that’ll have you speaking fluent Kanpai by dessert.

This is Kemuri Kitchen, and if you haven’t been yet, you’ve just found your next obsession.

Run by husband-and-wife duo Hiro and Yuki Okubo, Kemuri began life on the market circuit, first at Helensvale Night Markets back in 2015, then quickly gaining a loyal fan base

at Miami Marketta and NightQuarter. Their signature bao buns and clever Japanesefusion plates built a rep fast. The good kind. The line-up-outside-before-they-open kind.

In 2018, they planted roots in Carrara and opened a bricks-and-mortar version of their dream. And lucky for us, they’ve recently knocked through the wall next door to create a second space, a moody, minimalist izakaya where yakitori rules and sake flows.

Let’s talk food. Or more accurately, let’s talk pillowy-soft bao, stuffed with the likes of char siu pork, tempura bug, wagyu beef and misoglazed eggplant. They’re fluffy, steamy little flavour bombs. And yes, you’re going to need more than one.

Then there’s the gyoza, golden and panfried to perfection, plus karaage chicken, yellowfin tuna, agadeshi tofu, and Japanesestyle dumplings so good they may ruin you for all others. Got ramen cravings? Sorted.

Thursday through Saturday, it’s skewers galore. Picture prawn and pork yakitori, zucchini with pecorino, and caramelised wagyu short ribs, all sizzling over white-hot binchotan charcoal.

Smoky, juicy, salty-sweet perfection on a stick. And don’t even think about skipping the drinks list. Hiro’s a certified sommelier, and it shows. He’s handpicked an ever-changing line-up of sake, Japanese whisky and boutique natural wines, many from small Aussie producers, that pair beautifully with the food.

There’s nothing snobby here, just clever combinations, flavour-driven decisions, and a genuine passion for the craft.

Yuki’s still in the kitchen too, hand-pressing her bao dough in small batches and plating dishes with quiet finesse. The whole experience feels intimate, calm, and quietly cool. And here’s the best part: no matter which side of the venue you’re seated in, you can order from both menus. Choose your own adventure.

If you’re a planner, lock in a spot for their fortnightly Sunday omakase, a multi-course chef’s menu that takes you on a whistle-stop tour of Japanese technique, texture and flavour. All for under $80 per person. Just don’t forget to follow their Insta for surprise events, like omakase hot pot nights, which are low-key legendary.

Dessert? Always. You’ll want the matcha ice cream, or at the very least, a final pour of sake to toast the best neighbourhood meal you’ve had in a long time.

Kemuri Kitchen might not shout about what it’s doing. But once you’ve been, you’ll be telling everyone you know.

SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF COOKIES

Uni’s

WBakehouse

is baking vegan dreams into reality.

hat’s buttery yellow, baby blue, 100% vegan, and smells like a sugar-coated heaven? It’s Uni’s Bakehouse!

Yep, an all-new fully-vegan bakery has entered the chat, and we’re listening!

Think of it as a haven for vegan and glutenfree indulgence, and it’s just planted its roots in the bustling heart of Surfers Paradise. As you might imagine, it’s already popping off!

And here’s the sweet cherry on top: Uni’s Bakehouse is brought to us by the legends behind Gold Coast vegan café fave, Blendlove. Yep, the same crew who’ve been winning hearts (and stomachs) with their wholesome plant-based eats in Southport

are now here to fuel your cookie cravings in Surfers Paradise too.

The vision for Uni’s Bakehouse was simple: craft irresistibly delicious (and we mean, delicious) baked goods that everyone can enjoy, restriction-free! Because let’s be real, deciphering an ingredients list is a total sweettreat buzz kill.

So, founders Wan Ni Ng and Chi Yue Ng set out to bring the best in plant-based baked goods, while proving that ‘vegan’ doesn’t mean compromising on flavour.

From cookies and crookies (more on that later) to fluffy focaccia, each item on the menu is crafted to delight the palate without using animal products, and at least half of the offerings are gluten-free, ensuring coeliac customers aren’t left out.

Every creation is made in-house, with attention to detail, high-quality ingredients, and a splash of creativity that keeps people coming back for more.

The interior looks as delicious as the goods themselves, with clean lines, soft pastel tones, and marble countertops.

This modern café effortlessly blends chic with a playful design, thanks to the creative

touch of interior designer Tracy Ni from Nidesign.

It’s got indoor and outdoor seating for those who love to linger, perhaps with a book and a coffee/cookie dunk situation, or convenient takeaway options for those on the go.

There’s no doubt Gold Coasters from north and south will be travelling to get their hands on one (nah, a box!) of Uni’s gooey vegan cookies

With flavours like caramel popcorn, classic choc chip, almond, salted peanut butter and chocolate, Oreo cream and double choc, they’ve got our taste buds hostage!

Then, there’s the crookies! Yep, not a typo, that’s cookies x croissants. Think a crisp, flaky croissant with a melted choc chip cookie top layer

Banana Biscoff toast, brownies and beaut coffee from Bun Coffee complete every sweet desire. For some savoury to balance the sweet, they’ve got the doughy AF focaccia and avocado toast.

Operating Tuesday through Sunday from 8am to 2pm, Uni’s Bakehouse is set to become a favourite spot for breakfast, brunch, or a midday sweet fix.

Whether you’re grabbing a coffee on the way to work or class, enjoying a treat with friends, or simply treating yourself, Uni’s Bakehouse offers a little slice of indulgence for everyone (nonvegans won’t know the difference).

With every gooey vegan cookie, Uni’s Bakehouse is smashing the myth that plantbased treats are bland and showing how inclusive dining can be indulgent, playful, and downright delicious.

Life’s short, eat the cookies, sip the coffee, and savour every sweet, plant-based bite!

PLANT BASED + GF-FRIENDLY BAKERY

SHUCK YEAH!

From cult classics to new obsessions, Jimmy Wah’s is a Burleigh forever fave.

Burleigh has its fair share of heavy hitters in the foodie scene, but there’s one name that continues to reign supreme on the Gold Coast Highway: Jimmy Wah’s.

Opening back in 2016 by restaurateur Shelly Greaves and Chef Jake Cooley, now under new management and Chef Fabio Curi at the helm, this Vietnamese-meets-modernAustralian gem has achieved something pretty rare – it’s managed to stay cool without even trying.

For those who haven’t experienced the elevated, full-sensory feasting this GC institution is famous for, firstly, huh?!, and secondly, consider this your official nudge to

get with the program.

Before we talk about the main event (the nosh), let’s unpack the vibe. Imagine ‘Good Morning Vietnam’ taking a holiday in bustling Burleigh: authentic, vibrant, a touch nostalgic, and just enough edge to keep things interesting.

Jimmy Wah’s isn’t messing with success –the classics are still stealing the spotlight. The Vietnamese Pancake with pork larb, prawns, pickled cucumber, lettuce and herbs is more of a local celebrity than any of our gaggle of Gold Coast fitness influencers. Get some pork on your fork, in the form of the Caramelised Pork Belly with sweet potato and turmeric puree, chilli and lychee salsa, and watermelon radish

Or for some seafood action, don’t miss their famous Tempura Oysters with soy and sesame, chilli mayo, and black tobiko, or the Betel Leaf with tempura barramundi, charred corn, peanuts, and chilli

Let’s not forget the Banh Mi with tempura soft shell crab, Vietnamese slaw, coriander and chilli; a sandwich glow-up that leaves ham and cheese weeping in the corner. And why not finish with their iconic Fried Bao, salted caramel and peanut ice cream

But here’s the kicker: just when you think you know the menu inside out, Jimmy Wah’s goes and drops seasonal menu changes that make your heart (and tastebuds) skip a beat. The team loves to keep diners guessing with fresh, exciting creations that prove the kitchen is every bit as inventive now as it was nine years ago.

Of course, what’s a feast without something equally fabulous to sip on? Cocktails here are almost as famous as the food, with Jimmy’s take on a Spicy Margarita holding icon status, and the Ginny Wah making a strong case for best dressed in a glass (and best name). And if cocktails aren’t your jam, the award-winning wine list, expertly curated by sommelier Shelly Greaves, will more than carry the night. It’s been curated with soul and exceptional attention to detail to complement Vietnamese flavours, which is code for: order another bottle and thank us later.

The interiors are just as charming as the menu, seating 70 lucky diners between indoor and outdoor spaces that buzz with Burleigh energy. It’s stylish without being pretentious – a place where you can just as easily take your foodie mate who Instagrams everything as you can your hot date you’re trying to impress without looking like you’re trying.

So, whether you’re there for a midweek pickme-up, a date-night flex, or a “just because” cocktail session, Jimmy Wah’s is the place you’ll keep coming back to. Because sure, everyone already knows about Jimmy Wah’s – but it doesn’t hurt to remind them that some favourites are forever.

A CAR MUSEUM AT BUNDALL?

Relive the golden age of Aussie motoring.

Close your eyes and picture this: it’s mid-’60s on the Gold Coast – a gleaming Monaro is riding down Cavill Avenue, with the roar of its V8 engine echoing all the way to the drive-in. Ahhh, what a time. Today, this may feel like ancient history, but many of these former street legends now rest just steps from Surfers Paradise, proudly parked in all their glory under shining museum lights.

Muscle Car Museum in Bundall lets you relive the glory days of muscle cars. Whether you grew up with grease on your hands or have no idea what a carburettor does, this spot is pure nostalgia with a side of Aussie pride. Each car is a time capsule, a piece of lived history you can walk around, admire,

and fall a little bit in love with. For anyone who remembers, or longs to imagine that golden era, entering feels like sliding behind the wheel of memory.

Within the collection, you’ll find Chargers, Ford Hardtops, XY GTs, and a near-complete lineup of Monaros spanning the late 1960s to the mid-1970s. It’s rare to see so many of these former “daily driver” street machines preserved with such care. These were once the cars you might have seen chauffeuring families to the beach, taking lovers on Sunday cruises, or just roaring down the Gold Coast boulevards. By preserving these machines, the Muscle Car Museum lets us relive the romance, brawn, and thrill of Australia’s automotive golden era.

One of the marquee attractions is the replica “Mad Max Interceptor.” Its cinematic silhouette is instantly familiar even to non-car fans. A pop-culture icon comes to life.

And for those who prefer two wheels, there’s a lineup of muscle bikes from the same era – think Honda 750-4 and Kawasaki 900 –radiating that same rebellious, petrol-scented spirit that defined those roaring decades.

But it’s not just about the cars. The museum is a full sensory time warp: from working 1970s tune-up machines and vintage tools to old arcade games, a soft drink dispenser straight out of the corner milk bar, and even a Scalextric track where you can challenge your mates (no mechanical knowledge required). You don’t have to know your camshafts to appreciate the aesthetic, the energy, and the stories.

This museum isn’t exclusively for petrolheads, each piece tells a story. It’s a history worth learning, and an interesting one at that. The muscle-car era is woven into Australia’s identity, from the Bathurst racetracks to local drag strips and suburban drives alike.

So, make your next weekend one to remember at the Muscle Car Museum. Bring your grandfather, bring your mates, or just bring your curiosity. Come for the chrome, stay for the stories, and leave with a new found appreciation for the roar that once defined the Gold Coast.

THAI-M TO FEAST

More Thai opens their biggest location yet!

Surfers Paradise just got a whole lot tastier because More Thai has officially landed, and this one’s their biggest, boldest, and probably most Instagrammable yet. The fragrant, flavour-packed spot that’s been winning hearts at Broadbeach and Nobby’s is now servicing one of the Gold Coast’s busiest strips. And trust us, they’re not here to play small.

Located at Chevron Renaissance, the new More Thai is a sun-soaked, natureinspired haven with a clean, warm design that somehow manages to feel both chill and buzzing at the same time. You can dine outside and take in some of the Gold Coast’s

best people-watching, or head indoors where the chefs are doing their magic in plain view and the bar hums with energy. Bonus points: there’s even a private dining nook that’s tucked away enough to feel exclusive, but still packed with More Thai’s signature vibe. Win-win-win.

The dream team behind it all? Luke, Wendy, and Nan. Nan is the heart of the place, welcoming everyone like an old friend and making sure you leave with a smile (and probably a happy food coma). Wendy is the culinary wizard, whipping up flavours with over 30 years of experience and a deep family cooking legacy. Luke? The quiet mastermind keeping everything running smoother than a Thai coconut curry sauce. What a trio.

Now, the important stuff: the food. You have to kick things off with their signature Crispy Chicken Stir-fry with cashew nut sauce and veggies. Fun fact: Wendy accidentally invented it back in 2003 in Sydney, and it’s been a crowd-pleaser ever since. One bite and you’ll be ordering it again before the server even leaves your table.

Next up, the Crying Tiger, a grilled sirloin with chilli and tamarind sauce that hits all the right smoky, spicy notes.

Can’t resist a curry? Their Massaman Beef is slow-cooked for three hours with a treasured family recipe. It’s the kind of dish that makes you want to Instagram before you even taste it. Seafood lovers, prepare yourselves: the Salt & Pepper Soft-Shell Crab with Crispy Noodles is pure crunchy, saucy heaven.

Allergy-friendly? Yes, please. Around 85-95% of the menu can be tweaked for gluten-free, nut-free, coeliac, or shellfish-free diets. Basically, everyone can eat like a king or queen.

And no Thai feast is complete without a cheeky cocktail. The Lady Boy is a crowd favourite, while the Sabuy Sabuy is dangerously delicious, you may end up double-parked at the bar all night.

The More Thai story is a proper glow-up. From their OG Mermaid Beach spot in 2021 to Broadbeach in 2022, Nobby in 2023, and now Surfers Paradise in 2025, it’s all about growth, grit, and community love.

Stomach rumbling yet? Pull up a chair, order something spicy, crunchy, or saucy (bonus points if it’s all three), and savour every bite at the always-amazing More Thai.

SCREENS, SCHOONERS AND A SIDE OF SUNSHINE

The Sporting Globe Surfers is your go-to for finals, feasts and functions.

If your idea of a winning weekend involves frosty pints, stacked plates, and enough screens to make your lounge room telly feel inadequate, allow us to introduce your new MVP: The Sporting Globe x 4 Pines Surfers Paradise. Smack-bang on the corner of Cavill Ave and Surfers Paradise Boulevard, this mega sports bar isn’t just big on screens, it’s big on vibes, brews, and bites too.

First things first: the screens. Sixty-plus of them, to be exact. Yep, you could literally blink, sneeze, wander to the bar, and still not miss the action. Goals, tries, dunks, home

runs, it’s all covered. And for those who like their sport extra interactive, the private booths come with their own Booth TV (think channel-hopping, web browsing, and even gaming while you wait for your next round). Honestly, the only thing missing is a ref’s whistle.

Speaking of rounds, let’s talk brews. The central bar is pouring cold pints like it’s going out of fashion, and the 4 Pines crew are brewing fresh beer right downstairs. Yes, you read that right, your schooner may have been born mere metres from where you’re sipping it. Pale Ale, anyone?

If cocktails are more your lane, the Espresso Martini here is tipped to be a fan favourite (and will keep you cheering long after extra time).

Of course, all that cheering burns calories, cue the food menu. Think pub classics turned crowd-pleasers: the MVP Parma, saucy loaded wings, juicy stacked burgers, and fries that never stand a chance.

Dessert fiends, we see you too, brownies, churros and sticky date pudding are waiting in the wings. Can’t choose?

Do yourself a favour and order The Trifecta (because sometimes, choosing is overrated).

Now, let’s chat functions, because The Sporting Globe doesn’t just do casual pints and parmas, it does parties. With space for up to 1,000 people, a private function room, and a balcony made for post-beach sipping, it’s the Gold Coast’s answer to festive season fun. Whether it’s the annual Chrissy do with the work fam or a 300-strong corporate shindig, the combo of screens + brews + bites = guaranteed good times. Forget stuffy dining rooms, this is sport-meets-sparkle.

But wait, there’s more. Beyond the beers and burgers, The Sporting Globe is also kicking community goals. Over the past decade, the brand has donated more than $1 million to local Aussie sports clubs. Proof that their commitment to grassroots sport is as strong as their pint game.

So whether you’re rallying the crew for finals, planning a Christmas knees-up, or just chasing that unbeatable trifecta of sport, beer, and

sunshine, The Sporting Globe x 4 Pines Surfers is the spot. Open from 10am until late every single day, they’ve always got a cold one and a frontrow view waiting for you.

RINSE, REFRESH, REPEAT

The Bidet Shop is transforming bathrooms with a splash of style and sustainability.

Let’s face it, when it comes to our bathroom habits, Aussies have been a little… behind the times. While the rest of the world is living their best clean girl era, we’ve been out here still arguing over who’s a scruncher and who’s a folder. But that’s changing fast, because The Bidet Shop is on a mission to give Australian bathrooms the glow-up they deserve.

Back in 2004, founder James Thomas Bowers had what we’ll politely call a memorable experience on a business trip to Indonesia. After a run-in with some dodgy food, James discovered the comfort and hygiene of a bidet, and the lightbulb went on. He came home

determined to share this life-changing (and life-cleaning) revelation with the rest of Australia.

Fast forward 21 years, and The Bidet Shop has turned that personal “aha” moment into a national clean movement. They’ve supplied around 70% of all bidets in Australia and New Zealand, with more than 700 outlets across the country, plus their own warehouses, resellers and stores. Translation: they know their jets from their dryers.

Now, they’ve opened a brand-new display centre in Southport, and it’s basically a showroom for your dream bathroom. Think sleek, modern design, friendly experts, and yes, you can actually test drive a bidet before you buy. With 14 different models on display, from simple hand sprays to luxury smart seats that open, flush and dry for you, it’s like the Tesla of toilet experiences.

And here’s the best bit, you don’t need a full bathroom renovation to join the clean team. Many of The Bidet Shop’s models can be retrofitted to your existing toilet, meaning you can upgrade your bathroom routine without the drama (or the plumber’s bill) of a total overhaul. It’s the easiest bathroom

upgrade you’ll ever make.

The star attraction? Their signature ECO Bidet range, built for comfort, class and eco cred. These clever units use just $4 of energy a year, while offering heated seats, adjustable water temperatures and gentle air dryers. It’s comfort meets conscience, because who says sustainability can’t be a little bit fancy?

Beyond the shiny tech, what makes The Bidet Shop really special is their heart. They’re passionate about helping all kinds of customers – from young families going green, to seniors regaining independence, to anyone just wanting a better way to feel fresh. The team provides expert advice, product training, and friendly overthe-phone support, all proudly Australian-based. No call centre runaround, just good people who know their (bathroom) business.

And because 21 years of success deserves a celebration, The Bidet Shop is marking the milestone with discounts across the board. So, if you’ve been curious, consider this your official sign to make the switch.

It’s time to ditch the wasteful habits and embrace a cleaner, greener, dare we say, classier way to go. Pop into their new Southport showroom, take one for a test run, and see what all the clean energy is about.

CHEERS TO TEN YEARS

Inside Gold Coast hits double digits.

Turning 10 is important. Particularly in a world where attention spans are bitesized at best, everyone has an opinion on what you’re doing and how you’re doing it and in the world of online media, you’re only as interesting as the last thing you created.

It’s rough out there and yet, if you’re passionate (and stubborn) enough you’ll build something millions of people will come to love and rely on when it comes to learning about the greatest city in the world – the Gold Coast.

Since you’re here, you understand that thing is Inside Gold Coast and this year, the Coast’s sunshiny-est local media organisation turned 10 years old and I’m going to tell you all about it.

First things first, there was a party at The Star Gold Coast (see page 52) way up high at The Darling – and it involved champagne and dancing and a toast to the one who started it all, Carly King.

If there’s ever been a person more passionate about the Gold Coast, I’ve never heard of them and I’ve done at least 6438 laps of this city meeting people who are big, big fans. Carly however, loves it so much that she started Inside Gold Coast as a way to keep people informed of everything to eat, drink and do here

The first year of IGC was probably very interesting and growthy but THEN in 2016 I joined the team as the sole Content Creator and everything became hilarious, entertaining and fun.

Over the next few years Carly and I lived and breathed the Gold Coast. Together we nurtured and grew Inside Gold Coast into something that felt far more like part of who I was than simply just a job.

The job bit though, was very fun. In just my first few weeks of working here I rode a jet ski so fast, floated about on Quack‘R Duck, had

the time of my life at the likes of Infinity and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and experienced almost every tourist activity the Gold Coast had to offer.

Over the years Carly (and I) went to parties and restaurant openings, stage shows and circuses and I met more incredible, interesting and impressive locals than I thought it was possible to fit into one city.

All of it changed me and my life in ways I had never imagined possible.

stories every Thursday, straight to your inbox.

Fast forward to today and Inside Gold Coast is still growing and thriving with a team of 15 women from writers to designers, social media whizzes, organisers of absolutely everything, photographers, a sales team and of course, Carly still leading the charge.

In the last 10 years the Gold Coast has been through some absolutely incredible changes and exponential growth and Inside Gold Coast was right there for all of it, covering everything from a new cafe on the corner to the Commonwealth Games and beyond.

I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the Inside Gold Coast team, my time here has gifted me people, experiences and a life I would never have dreamed possible before I met Carly and she told me not only did I have to write stories but take photos out in public with a real camera (something I had no idea how to do at the time).

I’m even prouder still of Carly for her passion and dedication and everything she’s built for the Gold Coast.

So, cheers to 10 years of Inside Gold Coast, the thing that changed my life and the thing that makes everyone else’s that little bit easier, tastier and more fun.

Here’s to (at least) 10 more.

HOW TO

STYLE:

AN OVERSIZED SHIRT

If you ask us, the bigger the better!

When it comes to finding the perfect shirt – comfort, breathability and a relaxed style top the list for Gold Coasters.

But how does one avoid looking “sloppy” or like they haven’t made an effort if they reach for an oversized shirt? Worn correctly, the piece will add an air of effortless edge, lived in ease and create overall balance to one’s outfit.

Let’s not make ourselves smaller this summer! But first, let’s learn how to style an oversized shirt this season:

WITH BIKE PANTS

Pair with sneakers and a cap for a more street style vibe, or pair with thongs and sunglasses for hot girl summer vibes. If you’re happy to reveal your mid-section, tuck some of the shirt under your bra. Elce Reverie shirt sorbet stripe $180

Poppy Lissiman Shatsu Shirt $230

WITH A MAXI SKIRT

Create some balance by clashing masculine and feminine pieces with this look.

Opt for a fun, bright graphic tee and beaded necklace for some personality, or create the effect of wearing a dress by selecting a monochrome choice and adding some heels.

BillyJ Raina T-shirt Maxi Dress $89.95

A MATCHING SET

To avoid looking like you’re wearing pyjamas, rolled long sleeves up to fore arms, loosely tuck one side of the shirt in; and make sure some top buttons are opened to expose skin on the chest.

Colour-matched accessories finish the look nicely.

Luna Lane The Frankie Flares $159 and The Riley Shirt $179

OVER SWIM

The perfect holiday staple to wear day in, day out, no matter which way it’s styled. For a comfy yet intentional look, throw a tee over that pulls from the colour of your bikinis. A colourful, oversized shirt can be buttoned or unbuttoned and paired with a beach bag some slides and worn straight to the beach bar.

Luna Lane The Rose Tee $99
