Tucked down the laneway once home to Clay Cantina, a new European affair has arrived. Say ciao (or maybe bonsoir) to La Stradina, the latest venture from hospitality heavyweight Marcondes Almeida Neto, the man behind Cooly Breeze Rooftop and Black Dingo Café. Gold Coasters, your next Italian aperitivo moment just landed a whole lot closer to home.
Officially opening its doors last week, La Stradina brings a little slice of Europe to Griffith Street in Coolangatta. And when we say little, we mean it – “La Stradina” translates to “Little Street” in Italian – a nod to its beautifully tucked-away laneway location and the hidden dining pockets of Europe.
From the moment you step inside, it feels like you’ve stumbled upon a secret spot in Florence, that only the locals would know about – warm, textured finishes, rich red tiles, and weathered timber. Small tables lit with taper candles lean into the delightfully intimate atmosphere, blending beautifully with the space’s rustic, effortless charm. Hours pass easily here, and the wine flows even more so.
Raised in London with strong ties to his grandparents’ Italian heritage, Marcondes cut his teeth in high-end, Michelin-level restaurants across Europe before relocating to Australia over a decade ago. Since then, he’s built a reputation for polished yet welcoming venues that balance refined technique with genuine hospitality. La Stradina marks his third venue, and perhaps his most personal yet.
While Cooly Breeze Rooftop serves up airy coastal Mediterranean vibes, and Black Dingo Café brings the best of Australian cafe culture with immaculate ocean views, La Stradina pivots into something moodier and more transportive. In the hidden laneway escape, fresh food, fine wine and spinning vinyl set the tone. Speaking of vinyl, plans are in motion for an Open Mic Vinyl concept, where guests can bring their own records to play, turning dinner into an interactive, nostalgia-laced experience. Dinner and a show? Don’t mind if we do.
The Mediterranean-inspired menu champions seasonal produce and authentic techniques, with small plates designed for
sharing. Expect showstoppers like Oysters with cucumber, green grapes, chives and gin caviar, Oysters Mornay with Manchego and bechamel, Moreton Bay Bug Skewers, Blue Fin Tuna Rice
Cake with citrus mayo, avocado, pickled chilli, black caviar and ponzu gel and 12h Slow-Cooked Beef Cheeks Croquette with chimichurri…and that’s just to start.
There’s also Market Fish with Tas scallop, cauliflower puree, crispy potato hair, salmon caviar, fresh pear salsa and fresh herbs and a Stuffed Kiev Chicken with spinach ricotta and peri peri sauce and sauteed sweet corn that’s sure to become a crowd favourite. And of course, you’ll need to dedicate at least one visit to the Homemade Rigatoni with stracciatella, Napoli sauce and basil oil.
On the drinks front, the carefully curated wine list is complemented by signature cocktails, including one simply named Paris, made with Martell vs Cognac, St Germain, lemon juice, fig jam and rosemary syrup. We’ll take two! Cocktail hour is perfectly complemented by snacks like Sicilian Olives, Parmesan Truffle Fries with aioli or Focaccia Bread with miso butter
Not leaving without dessert, of course! That would be a crime…especially when delights like Ricotta and Pistachio Cannoli and Homemade Tiramisu are on the menu. Mamma mia!
With cosy booth seating inside and a charming outdoor laneway for al fresco dining, La Stradina feels both intimate and abuzz. You’ll find yourself emerging full, happy and plotting your next visit.

Tamborine Mountain’s creative escape awaits at Muddy Matcha.
Getting stuck in the mud isn’t so bad when matcha is part of the deal. Perched along Tamborine Mountain’s Gallery Walk, Clay Temple Co. and Muddy Matcha have teamed up to create a dreamy double act where ceramics and ceremonial tea swirl together for a perfect day out.
The creative collaboration is the handiwork of couple Dyllan Joyce and Janel Eldridge, who have quite literally moulded their passions into one beautiful mountain sanctuary. It’s equal parts pottery studio and matcha bar, a space where getting your hands dirty is a must and your reward is a perfectly whisked cup of green goodness.
The story began, fittingly, on a date. While visiting Tamborine Mountain, the pair spotted a space for lease and the wheels (pottery wheels, that is) started turning.
For Dyllan, the opportunity felt fated. Having worked as a pottery teacher in the city, he had dreamt of opening his own studio and the mountain’s creative community felt like the perfect place to fire up that idea.
Dyllan’s path to pottery has been anything but one-note. With a background spanning building, music, teaching and art design (not to mention previously running the sourdough bakery Perfect Loaf!) he’s no stranger to crafting things by hand. Learning construction alongside his father and brother taught him how to shape spaces as well as clay, a skill that comes in handy inside the cosy studio.
Nestled in the oldest part of Tamborine Mountain, the space may be small, but it’s packed with personality. Natural textures, earthy tones and clever design nod to the elements that inspire Dyllan’s work.
Inside Clay Temple Co., students settle in at the wheel to experience the meditative art of pottery. But once the clay has been
thrown and creativity is flowing, it’s time to pop next door for the other half of the experience: Muddy Matcha.
While Clay Temple Co. has been opened for a few years, Muddy Matcha has just joined the fold. This is where Janel’s passion comes into play inspired by her Japanese grandfather and shaped by her upbringing in the Philippines. Every cup of matcha is hand-whisked using organic tea sourced from Uji in Kyoto, widely regarded as the spiritual home of high-quality matcha. The result is smooth, earthy and beautifully balanced sips that pair surprisingly well with pottery-fuelled fun.
Ordering your drink is almost as creative as throwing a bowl. Choose a base – matcha, hojicha, cold brew, chai or cocoa – then customise it with flavours like strawberry, Tokyo banana or salted caramel and black sesame. Pick your sweetness, your milk, and maybe finish with a fluffy honey cloud on top.
In a clever twist for mountain wanderers, drinks can even be canned on the spot so you can take them with you to explore Tamborine’s boutiques, rainforest walks and lookout points. Or just grab a seat outside the studio and soak up the good vibes. Trust us, matcha tastes even better after making something of your own.

Rowdy Ranch Steakhouse raises the steaks.
Surfers Paradise has officially gone country, and no, this isn’t a drill – it’s a full‑blown honky‑tonk takeover. Rowdy Ranch Steakhouse swung open its saloon earlier in the year and ever since, locals have been boot‑scootin’, bull‑riding and brisket‑devouring like they’ve been teleported straight to Nashville.
Owners Jarrad Webb and David O’Connell – seasoned pros from the pub and steakhouse world – have teamed up with Head Chef Tom Kirby to deliver a steakhouse/country bar like no other and honestly, we’re devouring it faster than a cowboy at an all‑you‑can‑eat rib fest.
The pair chose their Surfers Paradise location for one simple reason – foot traffic and nightlife that could keep up with the chaos they were planning. They wanted a place where a high‑energy country bar, live music, dancing
and mechanical bull riding would be wanted – dead or alive – by locals and tourists alike. And can we just say, you’ll be roped in at first bite…or first grapevine.
Inside, the transformation is something to behold. Built by JL Coastal and designed by David O’Connell, the space is a full‑throttle ode to Nashville honky‑tonks – timber finishes, western décor, neon signs that glow like a country star’s teeth, and a dedicated bull arena. There’s a stage for live country music, plenty of room for line dancing, and enough atmosphere to make even the most city‑slickin’ Gold Coaster feel like they’ve just rolled in from the ranch.
Families haven’t been forgotten either. With indoor and outdoor seating, undercover areas, a private dining room and even a kids’ playroom, Rowdy Ranch somehow manages to be both rowdy and responsible. And if you’ve ever wanted to learn to line dance without judgment, Tuesday nights at 8pm are your moment – free lessons, zero shame, maximum yee‑haw.
But let’s talk about the real reason anyone rolls into a steakhouse – the food. Head Chef Tom Kirby, whose resume includes Miami Marketta, the Mona Lisa restaurant launch and Evenfall Vineyard in Tasmania, has crafted a menu that hits harder than a country breakup song.
Starters kick off with Rowdy’s Twice Cooked Wings – a 500g serve of slow‑cooked, flash‑fried perfection with house pickles, cool ranch and your choice of sauce. From the grill, the signature 1kg Tomahawk Steak is the undisputed show pony. Served with steakhouse fries or buttered mash and your pick of house‑made sauces (the sticky black pepper gets our vote), it’s big enough to share…or not if you’re feeling particularly cowboy‑coded.
Classics like the Parmi deliver comfort with a country twist, as does the Rowdy’s ½ Pound Beef Smash Burger stacking brisket patties, Swiss cheese, tomato relish, mustard pickle and wild rocket into a milkhouse bun that’s working overtime to wrangle the lot. There are salads, kids’ options, and sides like Market Greens with charred lemon, fried capers and herb oil for anyone pretending to be balanced.
Dessert is no afterthought either. The Pecan Pie with vanilla bean ice cream and Jack’n’Dry sauce is sweet enough to mend even the most broken country‑song heart, and don’t even get us started on the Lemon Meringue Tart

Pangaat Indian Restaurant & Bar has just spiced things up.
Curry crushes come and go, but right now the GC is collectively swooning over one spot: Pangaat Indian Restaurant and Bar. Tucked into the leafy charm of Mudgeeraba, this family-run favourite has been building a loyal army of fans since they burst onto the local culinary scene in December 2023. Now, with a fresh renovation, expanded dining space, and an un-biryani-ble menu makeover, Pangaat has entered a new era of dining domination.
Behind the venue are husband-and-wife duo Akash Sarkar (also Head Chef) and Rokeya Rima, who have invested every fibre of their being into creating a place that feels equal parts authentic and inviting. Fast-forward to February 2026, the recent glow-up hits you like a Vindaloo curry; full of flavour, heart, and soul, guaranteed to keep you coming back naan stop.
Rokeya personally oversaw the refreshed interiors, creating a space that feels contemporary yet cosy. Think soft ivory walls, timber flooring and sculptural handwoven rattan pendant lights that bloom overhead like floral chandeliers. The expanded dining area
offers extra space to spread out and savour every bite, while the revamped bar – complete with oak shelving and tasteful dusty pink star-motif tiles – adds a subtle touch of sophistication without losing the warm neighbourhood feel. Indoor and outdoor dining options mean there’s a perfect perch whether date night is on the cards or more of a casual curry catch-up.
Of course, the real star of the show is what’s coming out of the kitchen. Chef Akash’s menu leans proudly into legit Indian flavours, built on traditional spice blends and slow-cooked techniques that honour the classics while giving them a fresh Pangaat twist. Each dish carries the kind of depth that only comes from years of experience, and recipes crafted from a true custodian of Indian cuisine like Akash. The offering continues to evolve too, with new additions keeping regulars on their toes while staying true to the restaurant’s roots.
To give you a glimpse into the new menu, why not start with Saffron Lamb Chops or a Cheesy Chicken Tikka. Then, for the main event, we highly recommend you try the Kosha Mangsho, Bhuna Goat curry or the Slow-cooked Lamb Shank. If seafood is more your love language, you
can’t go past Meen Moilee, a Kerala-style fish stew. Pair it with a Hyderabadi-inspired Nawabi Pulao and the irresistible Peshwari Naan. And to complete the experience, indulge in the Shahi Honey Baked Peach. Vegetarians will feel the love here with many meat-free options available. Dinner without drinks is like curry without rice and we can confirm that the drinks menu here is as delicious as it is extensive. Why not try the Sharab-e-Gulab, or the Coconut Chilli Margarita. For those who aren’t in the mood for a cocktail, there are a wide range of beers, including the Indian made Kingfisher Draught Beer, ciders, wines, spirits, mocktails and other non-alcoholic beverages like the house-made Indian, Kaffir lime Nimbu Soda on offer. And just when you thought dinner was doing all the heavy lifting, lunch at Pangaat swoop in. Running Friday to Sunday, the lunch lineup is a vibrant, flavourpacked tour of India, starring their fan-fave Grand Thali – a glorious, all-in-one platter that’s basically a choose-your-own-adventure for your tastebuds. They’ve also rolled out South Indian dosas (plain or masala), served the traditional way with coconut chutney and sambar.
What sets Pangaat apart isn’t just the food, it’s the consistency, the attention to detail, and the genuine warmth that greets guests from the moment they walk in. The service can only be compared to a big warm hug, and we’re certainly not the only ones who’ve noticed. Pangaat scored a nod in last year’s AGFG Readers’ Choice Award for best Indian restaurant on the Gold Coast (metro) which is no small potatoes… or should we say, no small samosas.

The idea for Coastal Ear Clean came from years of watching patients struggle with blocked ears, discomfort, ringing or pressure. Tessa and Leah kept seeing the same problem: people didn’t know where to go. Do you book a GP? An ENT? A random chemist? The options were confusing, inconsistent and often involved long waits. So, this determined duo decided to make things simple, safe, and stress free by opening a welcoming space where ear care is the whole point, not an afterthought. And, you don’t even need a referral!
Coastal Ear Clean feels more like a serene
coastal studio than a clinic. Inspired by the Gold Coast’s breezy, beach‑loving lifestyle, the space is light, calming and intentionally non‑clinical. No harsh lighting, no intimidating equipment on display, no “hospital vibes.” Just a soothing reception area, a private treatment room and an atmosphere that makes even the most squeamish ear‑cleaning newbie feel at ease. There’s a certain kind of creative duo who leave the Coast, cut their teeth on the global stage, and return with a sharper, more refined point of view. Rae Underhill and Adriel Lack are exactly that. As co-founders and creative directors of Raven & Lack, the Burleigh Heads-based studio is helping shape a new standard of luxury living on the Gold Coast. Tell us about Raven & Lack and your roles… Raven and Lack is dynamic and super creative interior design studio, based in Burleigh Heads, founded in London. With project spanning the UK, Middle East, and SEQ , we specialise in the luxury residential interior design sector. We are working on a variety of projects from stand alone trophy homes to multi unit residential developments and furniture packages for ultra –boutique apartments. We are the co-founders and creative directors, supported by our talented team of interior architects and interior designers. You both worked internationally for years, particularly in London. What pulled you back to the Gold Coast, and how has it influenced your creative direction?
Ultimately it was for the Gold Coast Lifestyle,
both Adriel and I are from the Gold Coast and after an incredible decade plus spent in London it was time to come home, we were ready for barefoot luxury after the life in the big city! The Gold Coast has really come into its own design-wise. How would you describe the local aesthetic?
The Gold Coast’s luxury aesthetic has undergone a quiet but significant shift –moving beyond its sun-drenched glamour into something far more discerning. Shaped by international travel, interstate migration and a growing appetite for considered design, the region’s interiors now speak a more global language. – now our clients are asking for dedicated wellness suites that rival boutique studios. Infrared saunas, cold plunge pools, steam rooms – these aren’t wish-list items anymore, they’re being designed into the brief from day one, with the same level of intention we’d bring to a kitchen or master suite.
But what’s equally significant is the shift happening at the material level. Clients are far more informed now – they’re asking where things come from, how they’re made, what’s off-gassing into their home. There’s a real demand for natural, low-toxic materials: lime plasters, raw timbers, natural stone, wool and linen textiles, clay-based paints. And interestingly, that pursuit of healthier materials aligns beautifully with the aesthetic direction we’re seeing – because those materials also happen to be the most beautiful, the most tactile, and the most enduring. What’s one design mistake you see people consistently making?
The biggest mistake made in luxury homes is treating interiors as an afterthought. When natural light, spatial arrangements, and material selections aren’t considered from the very beginning of a project, the result is a home that never quite coheres – beautiful in parts, but lacking that seamless, resolved quality that defines truly exceptional design. Are there any local designers, artists or spaces on the Gold Coast inspiring you?
