Portrait of Fabrice Pouillon – R. Pouillon & fils Champagne Could you in a few words tell us about your Domaine and its characteristics?

Our domain was founded by my grandfather, Roger Pouillon, in 1947. Our family is originally from the Marne Valley and has always worked in the agriculture field, but it was my grandfather who actually started working the vineyard . As for me, I represent the third generation.

The R. Pouillon et fils domaine was established at Mareuil-surAÿ. The vineyard is now spread over 7 hectares of vines, with the region's three iconic grape varieties: pinot noir being the primary grape (65%), then pinot meunier accounting for 20%, and lastly chardonnay at 15%.

For all of our wines (8 permanent vintages as well as white and red Coteaux Champenois from year to year), we have a geographically focused vision. Given that our vineyard is established across 40 parcels located throughout 6 villages of outstanding quality, we want to develop what we call "vins de terroirs" We're therefore vinifying each of our 40 parcels separately in order to refine the origin of the grapes. Additionally, we are opting for natural vinifications, with few interventions.

What do you find to be the most interesting part of your work?

The advantage of being a small Domaine with a team of only 5 people is that it allows me to do a bit of everything. I take care of all aspects of both viticulture and vinification. I can't imagine winemaking without real viticultural work beforehand.

Why did you decide to use our Amcor’s hoods for your wines?

We use the Champtop hood for our entire wine range.

We chose this product because we are completely satisfied with the quality of the product and the customer service (FTS) that comes with it, and they are perfectly adapted to our needs. We can also customize them with branding on the top and external labeling.

More importantly, we really wanted to work with French manufacturers. Here, your factory is located only 300 meters from our vineyards. We can't get any closer than that!

Other than Champagne, what are your favorite wines?

Actually, I drink other wines more often than I do Champagne.

I really like reds from Burgundy, but also many PDO wines from the Rhone Valley: Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, and so on. I like to try everything, and I really like wines from wine-growers who make their terroir stand out.

This is certainly the case with other wines that I love, German Rieslings. Whether it's French or foreign wines, I'm really into wines that let their terroir stand out and have a strong personality!

In terms of tasting, what has most recently caught your attention?

Recently, it's been a pinot noir from the Arlot Domaine in Burgundy! And a Bonnes Mares Grand Cru vintage.
