These two-ring baskets can support peonies and other herbaceous plants, which are otherwise vulnerable when exposed to strong wind and rain. Traditional peonies are happy in our regular, small or fat peony supports.

as Duchesse de Nemours or Bowl of Beauty, appreciate the extra height of the tall or jester peony supports.

When planting peonies, set them no lower than the level of soil in the pot. Well prepared soil with compost and manure is essential. Feed the plants monthly in the growing season.

Avoid mulching the crowns as this can smother the plants.

Other herbaceous supports

One-ring supports contain small herbaceous plants, such as sedums and asters.

The medium and large one-ring supports protect thicker stems like euphorbia from flopping in bad weather.

Grid supports allow larger clumps of agapanthus, aster and campanulas up to two metres tall to flourish. They are widely used on the Equinox beds at RHS Wisley.

Three-ring supports suit Annabelle hydrangeas, asters and other tall perennials.

x Lesley Ann’s tip: Spring is the perfect time to put your supports in place, before the plants have reached the top ring. If they have grown too tall, lasso them gently with string, slide the support on and cut the string.

Double arch or tunnel

Use an arch to divide rooms in the garden. You can use almost any plant that can be tied in to the arch as they grow: roses, clematis, apples or pears.

Why not train laburnums over a tunnel as Rosemary Verey famously did at Barnsley? Or use them as the framework for an elegant opening in a hedge, gradually clipping the yew or hornbeam round the arch.

Our clematis and rose obelisks have an open top and are ideal for roses and vigorous climbers singly, in pairs or in trios.

Our classic steel tree guards are made in two fully welded pieces out of 16mm round bar with a 50mm ball. They have welded belts at the top, middle and bottom and four welded legs which are driven into the ground. The two halves secure around the tree with just six nuts and bolts.
