Bedwetting

Page 1

Bedroom Arrangements and Sleeping Routine This diary is designed to help you pinpoint reasons that might be contributing to your child’s bedwetting habit and these questions will help you kick-start this process. You’ll find extra advice about each of these areas in the Stop Bedwetting in 7 Days book.

QUESTION Does your child share a bedroom and if so, with whom? Does your child fall asleep quickly at night? Describe the general routine and give times for meals, bath, lights out etc. Does your child sleep in a bunk or high bed that’s difficult to get out of? Is the nearest bathroom difficult for your child to access? Are there any electrical gadgets in the bedroom, such as TV, computer, mobile phone, iPod? Does your child fall asleep watching or listening to any of these? Is the bedroom generally tidy or quite cluttered? Are the bedroom lights switched completely off at night? Is there a light on the landing or route to the bathroom? Does your child ever complain of being too hot or too cold? Does the bedroom suffer from noise (eg. traffic)? Does your child ever wake up at night and go into another bed? Does your child ever wake up because of nightmares or night terrors? What happens at night if your child wets the bed? Would you child struggle to help with changing of wet bed linen? Does your child take wet sheets to the laundry area?

ANSWER

Food Diary – Week 1 It is helpful to keep a record of all food and drinks consumed whilst on the Stop Bedwetting programme as there are known links. Please include the time you had your meal and also drinks. We do recommend that plenty of water is drunk throughout the day but it’s best to restrict drinks after the evening meal. If your child is hot, then sucking on an ice-cube may be all that’s required. Space is provided to include snacks, but these are optional and should only be consumed when hungry. MONDAY

Daily Activity Diary – Week 1 It’s useful to keep a log of your daily activities as it will help you to make links between what’s going on during the day and any wet nights that you may have. Please indicate whether your child was at school in lessons or taking in part in other activities such as sport, exams or after school rehearsals. Remember to mention trips out, parties, visits to a friend’s house or relaxing at home on the weekends or school holidays. Please also indicate the time your child went to bed, whether they woke up wet or dry that morning and also how they felt through the day. And finally, remember to encourage them to record three good things that happened today – it could be something as simple watching a favourite TV show or eating a favourite meal or something more interesting.
