Safe & Welcoming Environment

PBCCS strives to meet the needs of all learners. Among our school improvement goals are increasing student achievement in the core content areas. This includes ensuring that curriculum is aligned with standards, assessments, and our place-based learning focus. In addition, PBCCS strives to implement instructional practices that are widely effective, reinforce literacy across content areas and create opportunities for support, skill practice and enrichment. PBCCS is committed to professional development, meaningful data collection and analysis to improve student achievement, as well as integrated place-based learning opportunities.

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

PBCCS strives to ensure that all students and families feel welcome in our learning community. Our school implements practices that build healthy relationships, create a sense of community and fosters respect and communication. PBCCS implements a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) system to promote positive, predictable and safe environments, along with strong interpersonal relationships between school staff, students, families and the community.

About Our School BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

PBCCS establishes school-wide expectations for common respect, teaching what that means, and ensuring that all students and staff members share in the responsibility of making schools respectful and safe settings. Aggression, violence, threats, intimidation and isolation compromised the ability of students to learn and perform at school. PBCCS policy prohibits any form of harassment, intimidation or bullying, including cyberbullying. Bullying and harassment education is an integrated part of the PBCCS Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) system, which promotes prosocial behavior and a positive school climate.

Our school offers enrichment opportunities and extracurricular programming that includes: · Arts and music · Learning fairs · Outdoor activities · Family events · Technology and STEM

At PBCCS we believe that when families and schools work together, students are more successful. PBCCS offers a broad range of opportunities to encourage parent involvement in school. Our school holds monthly family events supporting academics and encouraging family fun. We rely heavily on parent volunteers to make our school strong and sustainable. Parents participate as classroom volunteers, coordinate special events and fundraisers, support place-based field work, help in the cafeteria and provide a library program. PBCCS also has a active Parent Teacher Organization that supports the school, students and teachers. Parents stay up-todate via newsletters, email communication, the school website and social media.

PBCCS works collaboratively with the community in a number of ways. Community partners, including agencies, organizations and individuals assist PBCCS with the facilitation of our placebased learning mission by offering resources, expertise and hosting field work to support student learning. PBCCS works in partnership with community organizations to ensure students and families get the crucial services and resources needed to be successful in school and in life. PBCCS also holds events throughout the school year inviting community participation and collaboration.

At Crook County High School, we strive to ensure that all students graduate college and career ready. Programs such as AVID, PBIS, Link Crew, and Juntos are designed to help our students reach this mission. These intentional efforts has lead to an increase in our freshman on track and graduation rate. As a staff, we take a holistic approach focusing on the individual student as each one has a story and is one caring adult away from success.

At Crook County High School we understand the importance of providing students a safe and welcoming learning environment. Staff actively uses positive behavioral interventions and support (PBIS) strategies to create a positive school culture where students feel welcome and want to attend. Crook County High School offers a welcome center with bilingual staff to assist parents who are not native English speakers. All communication sent home is translated for parent access and interpreters are available as needed for parent meetings.
