HOW TO CHECK YOUR WELL BEING FOR MENOPAUSAL SYMPTOMS

Past studies show that women who have experienced trauma (physical, emtional, sexual abuse, financial instability) are more likely to have worse menopausal symptoms than other women.

The research enrolled 682 women who were in early pregnancy from 1999 to 2002, this cohort was followed for approximately 20 years. Women who experienced trauma from their childhood to early adulthood have more difficult symptoms with worse general well- being.

ABUSE AND MENOPAUSAL SYMPTOMS?

Nobody knows the association between them but there is a theory that it is exposure to toxic stress (stress not let up or resolved) that affects the brain architecture.

This will help healthcare practitioners serve patients more thoroughly with possible better results. As they are able to give patients who struggle with menopause transitions, guidence on menopause management. There is increasing evidence that adversity earlier in life has an adverse effect on overall health and that by understanding the association helps practitioners identify women at risk for more adverse health outcomes.

There is a move towards trauma-informed medical care, which takes into account a person’s lifetime expreiences. Patients must be encouraged to share their history, as the shared openness and expectations around getting better symptom relief is important.
