When considering buying a diamond engagement ring, an important step is to work with someone you trust, that has a well-known reputation of integrity, and that will be there for you in the future. Important considerations are the: • Shape of the diamond • Four Cs: cut, clarity, color and carat weight • Steps for maintaining proper care of the gemstone

WEDDING CAKE T R E N D S T O C R AV E WRITTEN BY N Y C I A E M E R S O N OF INSPIRED EVENTS AND DESIGNS

A

s a wedding planner I see trends float in and out from year to year, and one sweet trend that I absolutely enjoy keeping up with is wedding cakes.

Wedding cakes trends are constantly

changing. When it comes to sweets on that

special day you definitely don't want to miss out. Your wedding cake should not only represent your wedding style and taste but it should be talked about long after your wedding. You can gain wedding cake inspiration from many elements of your wedding design, so don't be afraid to get creative. Finding inspiration from your color pallet, gown details, or wedding venue are just a few ways to get creative with your cake design. I have a few favorite trends, plus I caught up recently with a couple of local bakers in the area, to get the scoop on what wedding cake trends have been popular around in their shops lately. CLASSIC COLORS, UNIQUE SHAPES Add visible interest by adding vibrant colors or choosing offbeat shapes for a tier cake. This strikes the perfect balance between traditional and modern. You can choose a different shape for each tier, make your top tier a unique focal point, or use traditional and modern shapes on alternating tiers. METALLIC CAKES The traditional white wedding cake will never go out of style, but brides-to-be searching for a glam twist on the traditional delight will adore the latest trend: metallic wedding cakes. In varying shades of gold, silver, and bronze, these shiny yet elegant cakes will earn even the most traditional bride's seal of approval. 20

NAKED CAKES & RUSTIC TEXTURE BUTTER CREAM CAKES More and more brides-to-be are opting to serve “naked cakes.” Those are pared-down creations that forgo an outer layer of buttercream so the texture of the cake and the colors inside are put on show. “Naked cakes show off the natural beauty of the cake and are a break from convention. They offer a center-piece that is stylish, rustic and completely unique,” says Olga of Polkadots Cupcake Factory in 3

Austin, Texas. “Adding interest to simplicity, rustic textured butter-cream is an easy way to modify the standard wedding cake. Although a modern concept, this design allows the cake to maintain a classic elegance.” OMBRE STYLE CAKE One of the newest styles in fashion and cakes is Ombré. Ombré is a gradation of color. The inside is usually color-matched the icing on the outside.

4

ROMANTIC SHABBY CHIC CAKES Brides-to-be who want to keep things simple yet chic love the romantic shabby chic trend.

“One

of my favorite trends right now is the beautiful imperfection and rustic charm that is the shabby chic cake. Ruffles, fresh flowers, lace and burlap, anything that inspires carefree, bohemian romance,” says Jesi of Dolce Designs in Austin, Texas. RUFFLED WEDDING CAKES 5

For a very elegant and eye-catching presentation, skip the bold patterns and add-ons in favor of subtle embellishments with allover sugar ruffles. The look is light and airy and needs very little added detail. Finish it off with fresh flowers in between each tier or a few sugar flowers on top. A well-decorated ruffled wedding cake is not only gorgeous but also sweet and tasteful. 1. Classic Colors Photos by David & Sherry Photography 2. The gift doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive. Consider the nature of the occasion and local custom when making your choice. In some parts of the country, a hostess gift is considered obligatory, while in other places a gift is brought only on

special occasions. If it's the first time you're visiting someone's home then it's a very nice gesture to bring a small gift. We, at InFluential Magazine have rounded up a few of our favorite hostess gifts which are not only practical but are sure to say Thank You with style. hether you spend a few days or a few months traveling, it is important to look good. This issue, though, I’m not talking about clothes. I’m talking about what you use to bring your fabulous clothes along with you – your luggage. These are my tried and true pieces of luggage:

THE WEEKENDER Everyone needs a great go-to weekend duffle bag. I use the Kenneth Cole Leather Duffle Bag because it is the perfect size for a weekend getaway. It features leather handles and a detachable shoulder strap. This great bag is lined and features a zip-top closure, zip pocket on the inside, and a convenient exterior pocket. All around, this bag is simple, durable, and looks great.

THE CARRY-ON I’ve had the Tumi Vapor Continental Carry-On suitcase for two years, and it has literally gone around the world with me. It is the best suitcase I have ever owned. This hard-sided bag always fits in the overhead bin on planes and holds enough clothes for a weeklong trip. The interior is fully lined, has tiedown straps to secure your clothes, and half of the interior has a zipper closure so you can keep some of your clothes separate. The best feature of this bag is the fact that it is hard-sided – you can fit so many clothes in it and the overall size doesn’t change!

THE CHECKED BAG I go out of my way to not check a bag. It’s a hassle, it takes precious time waiting to collect the bag at the destination, and then you have to lug it around. But, when I do need to check a bag (usually because I’m going to be away from home for over a week), I turn to my trusted Victorinox Spectra 32 Extra Large Travel Case. Like the Carry-On, this lightweight, hard-sided bag never changes in size, so you can pack in tons of clothes. There are tie-down straps to secure your clothes and each side has a zipper-mesh divider. One useful (but hopefully never to be used feature) is that each bag comes with its own unique identification number and is enrolled in the Swiss Tracker Bag Tracking Program. Should you lose your bag, the Program will reunite you with your bag anywhere in the world – for free. These products are tried and trusted by yours truly! This rich imagery inspired the design concept of Pal Zileri for next Fall/Winter.

Silhouettes are clearly sartorial with wide lapels and highwaisted cigarette cut trousers. And you can see this in his work. Max's paintings, the work for which he is known around the world, are a meditation, a spiritual experience that flows through him to his brush. The vivid colors and bold expression are a celebration. Max is “raring to go” as he approaches his studio each day, and he can't wait to start painting. Today, his wife Mary is his greatest inspiration. There is some of her in every painting he creates. From the art instruction he received as a youth, to the spiritual enlightenment from his Swami, and the inspiration he gets from Mary, Peter Max channels immense talent, joy, and freedom into every piece he does and every word he says.
