How to display artwork effectively: The first rule is: do not hang art too high on the wall. Most people have always heard that art should hang at eye level.Well, given that we’re all different heights, what exactly is eye level?

Art experts say that pictures or paintings should be hung at approx 65” to 66” from the floor to the centre of the picture. - The bottom of the artwork which is being hung above a headboard, a sofa, or a credenza, should be 8 to 10 inches above the top of the furniture. Always use the proper tools for hanging pictures: picture hooks. These are very inexpensive and come in a variety of colour and style, with different weight bearing capacity: larger artwork may require a 15 lb picture hook. Damage to the dry wall is always a

Understandably so, some people are uncomfortable hanging pictures at a lower level after years of hanging them up much higher or even closer to the ceiling. – For those persons, I recommend that they hold the art at the place where they think it should be…then lower it by three inches. Amazingly, you’ll hit the spot where it should be hung, or at least where you’re comfortable with. – If you’re worried that you’ll be hitting your head on a painting you’ve just hung behind the sofa, don’t be. How often do you hit your head against the blank wall now ?

In the living room, if you’ve rearranged your sofa on the longest wall to create your conversation area, you’ll probably want to hang the largest piece of art you have above the sofa. What size artwork is ideal for that project? Considering the width of your sofa, the frame size should be approxi-

Whether it’s two large pieces, or three similar mediumsized pieces, or several smaller pieces, framed alike, the overall outside dimensions should be the same as one large piece of artwork. – Most times it’s best to position these on the floor, before you attempt to put picture hooks in the wall, to determine the overall grouping size and picture positioning beforehand. It’s always best to be careful first than disappointed later.

If you’re repainting a room, take all your artwork/pictures down and fix the holes. Re-think your space before you return the furniture to its original spot. You might reorganize your living area to give it an updated look and that means that your pictures may look better in a totally different location. It is also an opportunity to replace out-dated & worn frames: it breathes new life into your favourite darlings.
