Easy Tips to Help Animals Anytime, Everywhere!

Would you enjoy helping the animals in your part of the world? But maybe, you aren't quite sure what exactly it is that you can do? There are more easy, every day ways to help than you realize! Choose as many to do, as you can. Expand your list, as your knowledge and comfort level increases.

I have been in the 'animal helping' business in various capacity for over fifty years now. I always remember what the (then) President of the Westmount SPCA told me, when I found myself living in a downtown, High-rise apartment, where no pets were allowed. Well, at that time I volunteered to be the one to make the follow-up calls to new adopters from the local SPCA, to see how well the new family was getting along. As well as, offer helpful tips. But it wasn't many years later, when I found myself moving to the High Arctic, where I lived in isolation for a decade, and helped out as many dogs there, as I could. There were so many, that needed help!

I rescued starving and beaten dogs out of terrible, abusive situations, and found them loving homes. I made friends with the local butcher and walked through the town, feeding scraps and bringing water, to as many hungry, and thirsty dogs as I could. I helped educate unaware, but well-intentioned Custodians to train their dogs to become good companions.

With no Veterinarians there at the time, I used Homeopathy and other first aid skills I'd learned, to treat sick, injured and dying animals on the street. I shared as many 'helpful tips' as I could, with as many who might listen.

And so the years have passed, I no longer live in the arctic, but I still actively do, 'whatever' I can, to help animals. There are animals in every location, including yours, that can use some form of help from a caring human. Some tips may seem simple or 'common sense' but you may be surprised to realize that not every Custodian is acutely aware of what an animal may need.

First, and most importantly, I would ask that you, animal lover, use your voice to speak up for the animals who cannot speak for themselves. This means if you see an animal in distress, your Creator has put you there, to do what you can to help in that situation. So please, SPEAK UP! Take immediate, appropriate action to help that animal.

If you see a dog left in a hot car, don't just walk away cursing the Custodian. Call the police, give them the license plate number, take a photo of the situation with your phone, and stay with the animal until help comes. Get other passerby's involved, sending one to ask store managers to make an announcement in the store, and someone else to get some cool water ready for the pet.

If you see an animal tied up outside for days on end, without companionship, or adequate shelter. Talk to the Custodian!

Be polite! They may not be aware that their pet needs more attention, than they are giving.

If you see a thirsty dog being jogged down the street attached to someone who is listening to their iPod rather than noticing their pet is struggling, stop them.

Make them aware. If you have any water on you, offer it to their pet.

If you see a clearly underweight dog, ask their Custodian if they realize their dog is underweight for their breed/age. If you see a Custodian beating or otherwise harming a pet, step in and speak up! Tell them you will call the authorities, as it is against the law to abuse an animal.

Your help can be as simple as taking an elderly neighbour’s dog for a walk.

Cleaning out a litter pan. Or showing someone, the correct way to cut dog's nails. Share your knowledge!

If you have come across information regarding a Pet thieving, or Dog fighting ring, please don't keep that information to yourself. Tell the authorities and help save those animals!

As you continue to gain knowledge, you can help in many more ways. Let your heart guide you.

Include animals in distress, in your daily prayers. Ask that angels are sent to comfort them and deliver them from painful situations. Remembering, that sometimes, the angel that Creator sends, is YOU. ~~
