Not only does it calm the body and mind but massage therapy offers a number of health related benefits and can be used to treat symptoms caused by many orthopedic and medical conditions. The most obvious benefit of course being relaxation, massage therapy can affect blood pressure, sleep patterns and mood regulation. Conditions such as depression, anxiety and insomnia can be treated using techniques that stimulate the release of dopamine and serotonin which counteract the stress hormone, cortisol. This can also have an effect on blood pressure, often lowering it for a short time after treatment. Not only does the mind relax during a massage but the body relaxes as well. Muscles release tension and connective tissues become more pliable. Joint capsules loosen and are more flexible, increasing range of motion and helping to restore muscle balance. Blood is drawn to the area being worked,
improving circulation and immune function. Lymphatic fluids are also drained, helping to decrease inflammation and swelling. These benefits will help to reduce stiffness and manage pain in any area of the body, undoubtedly improving quality of life for anyone suffering. A New Way of Thinking; “No Fur-kid Left Behind” Summer-time, is traditionally the time of moving in Canada and with that, comes a massive increase in the abandonment of our companion animals. Conservatively, hundreds of thousands of pets are unceremoniously cast aside to shelters for various reasons across Canada each year, with more than half of them subsequently put to death.
Most, never have the opportunity to catch the eye of someone new to take them home. Shock and fear of their abandonment have many cowering at the back of the observation cages for their allotted time 'on show'. Their vibrant and individual personalities never having the chance to show themselves. Those are the recorded, forsaken ones, like, 'Bella' the loyal, 6 year old German Shepherd abandoned because her 'pet-parents' wouldn't agree to give her to the other partner in the divorce. Or 'Max', the sensitive, 4 year old Golden Retriever, who was tossed aside because a new baby arrived. Or 'Zoe', the happy, 3 year old Beagle who's custodians chose to move to an d white, that would not accept anapartment black male,pets.

In the thought-provoking movie the 'Moses Code', we learn that perhaps the message Moses received thousands of years ago was missing something in the translation.
