Step right into a cell to experience life behind bars – at least for a few moments. There are stories of prison life from the point of view of the guards as well as the inmates. You’ll also learn about escapes, and we have many ghost stories to share! There is so much more to do, I don’t have enough space in my column to name them all...Many festivals, including the Lift-Off in Cornwall, the Prescott’s Shakespeare Festival and many more... I didn’t even talk about the various campsites by the Seaway for those “nature lovers”, many marinas for those “boaters” and many golf courses for the golfers! Look around we live in a beautiful part of the world enjoy it during your holidays this year!

Tension Headaches and Massage Therapy Tension headaches are one of the most common ailments that a person will seek massage therapy for. The pain ranges from a dull ache or stiffness at the base of the skull, to a full blown, deep pressure-like headache that is commonly mistaken for a migraine. When these aches and pains occur people tend to reach for over the counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medication in the hopes of decreasing their symptoms. These medications however, end up only masking or changing our perception of the pain without treating the root cause. Trigger points, usually referred to as "knots", are often the main source of musculoskeletal pain and are the result of a variety of factors including nutrition, environmental and emotional stress, faulty posture and acute or chronic soft tissue injury. This specific kind of headache will vary in location and intensity and is normally caused by active trigger points in the head, neck and shoulder muscles. Patients will describe their tension headaches as a stiff ache or throbbing pain that can sometimes be pinpointed to specific neck segments, the forehead, temples and occasionally the eyes. Muscles ex-
hibit predictable pain patterns when afflicted with trigger points which can help to determine exactly what muscle the referred pain is originating from. Massage therapy is an extremely effective form of treatment for tension headaches because it addresses the cause of the symptoms and works to restore proper muscular function. Therapists are trained to use specific trigger point and rehabilitation techniques on associated soft tissues to decrease referred pain while increasing muscle strength and joint stability. Spring Cleaning For Your Pets Along with giving your home and property a thorough Spring cleaning, your pet and his environment will also benefit from the same devoted attention. Here are some helpful tips to get you on track! Cleaning up your pets bathroom area isn't a favoured Spring task, yet it is one of the most important. It's time to clean up and safely dispose of all of your pet's excrement that was left in place accumulating as frozen works of art during the winter. Remember, you don't want your pets or your kids tracking 'poopy-mud' into the house. If you have an outdoor dog house or cattery, now's the time to give it a complete cleaning inside and out. Remove all bedding and throw away. Sweep it out, wash it down if needed and then replace bedding with something clean and fresh. If made of wood, give it the splinter test to ensure there's nothing in there that could harm your pet. Pet toys, be they rubber or cloth all need a scrupulous wash. All that mouth-mauling over the winter months has caused a build-up of saliva goober, germs, bacteria and just plain yucky dirt! Use your good judgement, if the toy is beyond salvaging, toss away and please pick up some new ones for your pets! As the days get warmer it's a great time to put all the pet's bedding (not just the cushion part) into the washing machine. If you have large amounts of bedding filled with pet hair, an option to save your washer/dryer may be to run down to the public Laundromat and use their industrial machines for a couple of bucks. Remember to never use chemical fabric softening, not in the wash, and not in the dryer. Many pets react with severe rashes from this and if you've also put his fabric toys into the washing machine, remember to double rinse. Certain chemical detergents/fabric softener can cause severe reaction and/or poisoning. Remember, your pets mouths are all over their toys. Keep your pet safe and go 'non-toxic'!
obvious, much needed brushing and combing out which with some pets will give you enough fur to make a coat of your own! Make it fun or at least bearable enough for your pet by making it 'together time' for the two of you and talk softly to him while brushing. And please, don't yank on his fur, it hurts! Think of how it feels when you are struggling with a knot in your own hair and treat him accordingly. While brushing, run your hands along every inch of your pet's body to check for any lumps or bumps or cuts or anything that shouldn't be there. If you discover anything you're not sure about, perhaps a veterinarian visit would be in order. After brushing, check the ears to make sure they are clean and fresh smelling. Open the mouth and check the gums and teeth. Check the nails to ensure they are of the right length. If too long, you have a choice. Either get a Veterinarian to show you exactly where and how to cut the nails or spend the entire lifetime of your pet in 'nail-cutting hell'...This is because, if you cut the nail too short, (into the 'quick') you will cause your beloved pet much pain and a surprising amount of bleeding which neither one of you will ever forget. And your pet will spend the rest of his life avoiding nail-cutting time like it's the murderous act he believes it to be ;-) Trust me, if your pets' nails have even once been cut too short, it is well worth the $10.00 a professional will charge to do it for you. That said, allowing your pet to nibble on his favourite treat from the hand of a willing accomplice, while you cut his nails, (never cutting above the 'curve of the nail') has been known to work quite efficiently, if your pet is particularly food driven. However, it has to be his most favoured treat. Giving your pet a full bath, in my opinion, should wait until the warmth of Summer has arrived. Alternatively, if your pet is unbearably stinky now, bring him to a groomer who'll give him that bath as well as, ensure he's completely dried before going outside.
