Private College Education is Affordable Beginning the Conversation One of the most important differences between public and private college is the availability of financial aid. Public colleges are underwritten by tax dollars, and typically look good because of a seemingly low fee. However, that cost is the final cost, meaning there are no discounts other than scholarships. On the flipside, private institutions often provide attractive financial aid packages based on things like your grades and activities. You may be pleasantly surprised that a private institution is more affordable than a public school because of these available financial aid packages.

Out-of-pocket costs for IWU often equal or are close to public institutions. IWU provides merit- and need-based financial aid on top of federal and state funds that offset tuition charges. The types of aid include grants, scholarships, loans and work opportunities.

The Value of a Private Christian University The annual Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) tuition study confirms that member institutions continue to offer an excellent value in comparison to other private four-year U.S. colleges. Not only are CCCU colleges less expensive, annual increases in tuition and fees are growing at a slower rate than other private four-year colleges.
