Noelle chose IWU’s School of Nursing for its impressive reputation and notable NCLEX scores. Now, she couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. The courses are providing a solid foundation for the rest of her career and allowing her to gain hands-on experience with patient care. What she most appreciates, though, are the professors who pour their time into shaping her into a future nurse.
J.C. has had the opportunity to get involved on the student leadership teams for Fusion and Never2Young - annual high school and middle school youth conferences hosted by IWU. From planning the schedule to booking the worship band, J.C. has been able to gain invaluable experience in the field of ministry while under the mentorship of his professors.
“My favorite part about being at IWU is being able to get to know and build relationships with my professors. They are the reason that I have had many career-building opportunities.” Rachel is studying TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Education at IWU to empower and value students from different linguistic backgrounds, both in the U.S. and abroad. In her classes, Rachel is learning how to be an effective teacher and linguist, all while gaining hands-on experience.

The Ron Blue Institute for Financial Planning, a wholly owned subsidiary of IWU, established the NEXUS Financial Discipleship Center at IWU for the purpose of equipping students and the local community with the knowledge necessary to live financially sound lives. “IWU has prepared me in so many ways. Not only am I academically above my coworkers, but I also have a foundation of love for God and community that was strengthened at IWU.” Seeking adventure, Lynette Ellcessor decided to pursue travel nursing, a role that places nurses in a specific location for approximately 13 weeks. She landed an assignment as a labor and delivery nurse in southern California. For Lynette, this was a perfect fit, as it allowed her to fulfill her dream of living in California without permanently moving there. Working three-day weeks, she used her free time to explore the area and experience a new part of the country.
“IWU has done a great job at preparing me for medical school. Through the unique research opportunities and my professors’ high standards, I am better prepared when compared to my medical school classmates.” After scoring in the 100th percentile on the MCAT, Michael Gongwer was accepted into four competitive MD-PhD programs: Yale; University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); Washington University in St. Louis; and Vanderbilt. He decided to enroll in UCLA’s MD-PhD program, which is training him as both a physician and scientist to make advances in medicine. Michael’s goal is to run a neuroscience research lab and work as a neurologist seeing patients.
“The communication department offers so many ways to get hands-on learning, which is so important in my field. By the time I graduated, I had four years of experience on camera, and that put me ahead at my first job.” As a news anchor at 14 News WFIE, Shaelie Clark is a local celebrity in the tri-state area of southwestern Indiana, northwestern Kentucky and southeastern Illinois. Shaelie anchors the morning newscast as well as the midday news segment. She also has the opportunity to go into the community where she is able to use her creativity and reporting skills to write, shoot and edit news segments that tell local stories.
“I do what I do because I love it. I think that’s success to me—getting to do what I love every single day of my life.” Barely a year out of college, Santiago Jaramillo found himself joining an elite group: Inc. magazine’s list of “30 Under 30” entrepreneurs for 2013. In college, he founded Bluebridge to create mobile apps for small businesses and churches, making more than $100,000 in his senior year alone. In 2016, Santiago sold Bluebridge’s church and tourism business for $8 million. Since then, he has shifted his focus to founding Emplify, a growing company that provides businesses with an app designed to increase employee engagement.
