TO WEAVE OUR SPACE

When coming across the Do Ho Suh exhibition in the contemporary art museum, Sydney, It was interesting to view and discover how the elements of architecture are involved in art. Ho Suh composed largescale sculptures and architectural installations: differentiating the relationships between the body, memory and space. As an architecture student, I was amazed by the use of storytelling, mediums history and culture Ho Suh expressed through his artistic practice. The small a rigid details, the artist expressed, captur moments through time, in particular thro the time frame of Do Ho Suh.

A Netflix series, called Korea’s No 1, starring Yoo Jae-suk, Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Yeon-koung, shares a famous traditional method of clay making: clay roof tiles, traditionally known as Giwa in Korean (in the first episode) Through many generations, Giwa protected people from extreme weathers of rain and wind. It is known as a great insulator for summer heat and cold winters With Do Ho Suh artwork installation, the roofings portrayed the clayed tiles, keeping the concept of restoration and reconstruction in the contemporary world today.
