Trump names Pam Bondi as new AG nominee after Gaetz withdraws
Friday, 22 November 2024
President-elect Donald Trump quickly appointed Pam Bondi, the former Attorney General of Florida, to replace Matt Gaetz as his nominee for Attorney General. Gaetz had announced earlier on Thursday that he was withdrawing from consideration due to the controversy surrounding his nomination.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, praising Bondi’s extensive experience as a prosecutor for nearly 20 years and highlighting her work as Florida’s first female Attorney General. Trump commended her efforts to combat violent crime and drug trafficking, particularly her fight against fentanyl overdose deaths. He also noted that she had served on the opioid and drug abuse commission during his first term.
Bondi, who was part of Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment trial in 2020, now awaits Senate confirmation for the position, which Trump has described as one of the most crucial roles in his second term.
Gaetz’s initial nomination had faced significant challenges, particularly concerning an ongoing Ethics Committee investigation into accusations involving a minor. Gaetz, in a post on X, explained that he was withdrawing to avoid becoming a distraction and to allow the new Attorney General to be in place on Day 1 of the administration. Trump expressed appreciation for Gaetz’s efforts, praising his future prospects.
US approval of Kyiv’s use of long-range missiles inside Russia aims to fuel war: Turkish president
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the US decision to allow Ukraine to deploy long-range missiles against targets inside Russia, calling it a provocative move that risks escalating the ongoing conflict. Erdogan criticized the decision, suggesting that it was intended to prolong the war and possibly expand it, describing it as a reckless action that could lead to a broader international conflict.
He urged caution, emphasizing that even a small mistake in this situation could spark a larger disaster, likening it to igniting a barrel of gunpowder. The US move marks a shift in policy, as President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use US-supplied ATACMS missiles for strikes inside Russian territory, with reports indicating that Ukrainian forces had already launched these missiles at the Bryansk region in Russia.
India dismisses Canadian media claims about Nijjar’s killing as part of smear campaign
India has strongly rejected recent reports in Canadian media linking its government to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, emphasizing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unaware of any alleged assassination plot against him. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Wednesday, calling the claims “absurd” and accusing them of being part of a “smear campaign” that further harms the already strained relationship between the two countries.
While the MEA typically avoids commenting on media reports, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that such “ludicrous” statements, reportedly made by a Canadian government source, should be dismissed with “the contempt they deserve.” The remarks came after Canada’s Globe and Mail published a story suggesting a connection between Nijjar’s death and the Indian government.

ICC issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant, and Hamas leader Deif
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif, accusing them of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The ICC’s pre-trial chamber claims there are “reasonable grounds” to believe Netanyahu and Gallant are responsible for war crimes in Gaza, particularly for using starvation as a method of warfare and committing other inhumane acts.
The arrest warrant for Deif remains active despite reports of his possible death at the hands of Israeli forces, as the ICC has not confirmed his death.
The warrants come amid escalating tensions in Gaza, where Israel’s military campaign has resulted in significant civilian casualties.
The court’s decision has been met with resistance from Israel, which rejected the ICC’s jurisdiction, while Hamas welcomed the warrants. International responses to the warrants have been mixed, with some countries calling for accountability and others, like the U.S., dismissing the court’s actions as politically motivated.
PM Modi conferred with Guyana’s ‘The Order of Excellence’, dedicates it to people of India
rime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Guyana’s highest civilian award, “The Order of Excellence,” by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali for his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening India-Guyana relations. The award recognizes Modi’s contribution to global development, championing the rights of developing nations, and his statesmanship on the world stage.
During the ceremony at the State House in Georgetown, PM Modi dedicated the honor to the people of India and highlighted the historical ties between India and Guyana. He emphasized that his visit to Guyana was a reflection of India’s commitment to furthering bilateral relations. This makes Modi the fourth foreign leader to receive the prestigious honor. He also expressed gratitude to President Ali for his efforts in deepening the partnership between the two countries and reiterated India’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that benefit both nations and the broader Global South.

India dismisses Canadian media claims about Nijjar’s killing as part of smear campaign
Relations between India and Canada have deteriorated sharply, particularly over Canada’s handling of extremism and antiIndia activities within its borders. India has repeatedly called on Canadian authorities to address these issues. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently claimed to have “credible allegations” linking India to Nijjar’s murder, but India has rejected these claims as “motivated” and baseless.
The Canadian report also suggested that India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar were involved in the alleged plot.
Tensions escalated earlier this month when India recalled six diplomats from Canada after they were named “persons of interest” in the investigation into Nijjar’s death, which occurred outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023.
The diplomatic fallout worsened last month when Canada accused Indian diplomats, including High Commissioner Sanjay Verma, of being linked to the murder. In response, India expelled Canadian Charge d’Affaires Stewart Wheeler and five other diplomats.
10 MoUs signed in Guyana during PM Modi’s visit
During his state visit to Guyana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the signing of 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between India and Guyana across several key sectors, including hydrocarbons, agriculture, healthcare, and digital payments. These agreements are aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and advancing cooperation in various fields.
The MoU on hydrocarbons focuses on sourcing crude, natural gas collaboration, infrastructure development, and capacity building. Another MoU targets agricultural cooperation, including the exchange of knowledge and scientific resources. Other agreements cover areas such as medical products regulation, digital transformation through the India Stack initiative, and the establishment of a UPI-like payment system in Guyana. Additionally, the MoUs include cultural exchanges, broadcasting cooperation, and collaboration between defense institutes, all of which aim to enhance India-Guyana relations in a variety of sectors.
SEC chair Gary Gensler to step down when Trump takes office
The Biden administration has canceled approximately $4.7 billion in U.S. loans to Ukraine, as part of efforts to support the country’s fight against Russia’s invasion. The loans, which were part of a larger $9.4 billion package passed by Congress in April, were forgiven to provide economic and budgetary relief to the Ukrainian government.
The move, which was made in recent days, follows a law allowing the President to cancel half of the forgivable loans after November 15. However, Congress could still block the decision. President Biden has been pushing for swift action to ensure continued U.S. support for Ukraine, especially as concerns grow about potential changes in U.S. foreign policy under President-elect Donald Trump.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree approving an updated nuclear doctrine, which emphasizes nuclear weapons as a last-resort deterrent. According to the decree, aggression by any nation or military coalition against Russia or its allies will be treated as aggression by the entire bloc.
Furthermore, any attack by a nonnuclear state, with support from a nuclear power, will be regarded as a joint assault on Russia. The revised doctrine outlines nuclear deterrence efforts against states or coalitions that see Russia as a potential threat and possess nuclear or significant military capabilities. It also targets states that allow their resources or territory to be used in actions against Russia. The
document highlights Russia’s commitment to reducing nuclear threats and preventing escalations that could lead to military conflicts.
Gary Gensler, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), announced that he will step down at the end of the Biden administration, prior to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. Although Gensler had not publicly disclosed when he planned to leave, it was expected that he would depart before Trump takes office on January 20.
Gensler, who has led an active period of rulemaking at the SEC, has faced opposition from Wall Street groups, including pushback against transparency regulations aimed at private equity managers and stock buyback rules. His decision to remain until the end of Biden’s term means that Democrats will retain a majority on the SEC’s five-member board until his departure, which could allow additional measures to be pushed through before Trump’s team takes over.
Gensler previously worked for Goldman Sachs and led the transition’s review of Federal Reserve, banking, and securities regulators. He was also a professor at MIT’s Sloan School of Management before his SEC appointment.

Texas
offers land for
Trump’s mass deportation plan
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham has offered 1,402 acres of land along the U.S.Mexico border for the construction of deportation facilities as part of President-elect Donald Trump’s planned mass deportation operation. Buckingham’s offer comes as part of a broader initiative to create detention and processing centers for the deportation of criminals.
The plot of land, purchased in October, is located in Starr County, Texas, near McAllen. Buckingham expressed full support for Trump’s deportation plan, emphasizing that the land is well-suited for the construction of such facilities.
While Texas has offered this land, other states like California and Arizona have pledged not to cooperate with Trump’s plans. The mass deportation strategy faces significant logistical and legal challenges, similar to those encountered during Trump’s first term.
London named world’s best city for 10th consecutive year
London has been ranked as the world’s best city for the 10th consecutive year in the annual World’s Best Cities rankings. The British capital maintained its top position, surpassing cities like New York, Paris, and Tokyo. Compiled by Resonance, a global advisor in real estate, tourism, and economic development, the rankings evaluate cities with populations over 1 million. London’s consistent dominance highlights its appeal, offering a blend of cultural heritage, strong business infrastructure, and exceptional quality of life.
This year’s rankings introduced public perception as a key factor, using insights from over 22,000 people across 30 countries. The evaluation also considered aspects such as the quality of the natural and built environment, cultural vibrancy, dining, nightlife, shopping,
business infrastructure, and university quality. The results reflect London’s ongoing global allure, drawing residents, visitors, and workers from around the world.
Laura Citron, CEO of London & Partners, emphasized the city’s diverse appeal, including its strong financial sector, growing tech industry, and vibrant mix of people.

COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev emphasized tourism’s significant role in the global economy but also acknowledged its environmental challenges, such as its contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. The new declaration aims to make tourism a climate-resilient, low-carbon sector that contributes to both economic development and global sustainability.
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has also launched its updated Net Zero Roadmap, showing a surge in the number of travel businesses committing to emissions reduction targets.
The roadmap emphasizes the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to reduce aviation’s carbon footprint.
Palestine condemns US veto on UN resolution demanding Gaza ceasefire
‘baseless’
Adani Group denies US Department of Justice and SEC allegations as
The Adani Group has strongly denied the allegations made by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), calling them “baseless.” The allegations, which surfaced in recent legal documents, claim that the Indian conglomerate engaged in activities that violated U.S. securities laws. The specific nature of the allegations revolves around concerns regarding stock manipulation, misleading financial disclosures, and potential violations related to foreign investments in Adani Group companies.
In response, the Adani Group issued a statement categorically rejecting the accusations, emphasizing that its operations have always adhered to legal and regulatory frameworks in both India and internationally. The company has reiterated its commitment to transparency and compliance with all
relevant laws. The Group also expressed confidence that it would be able to resolve these issues promptly through legal channels, further asserting that the allegations are part of a broader smear campaign aimed at tarnishing its reputation. This controversy comes amid heightened scrutiny of Adani Group’s financial practices, which have been subject to investigation by regulators in various countries. Despite the pushback from the company, the matter has raised concerns in financial markets, especially regarding the transparency and governance practices of large conglomerates like Adani.
The ongoing investigations by U.S. regulators have sparked considerable interest in the international business community, with stakeholders watching closely to see how the Adani Group will navigate the legal and financial challenges ahead. For now, the company’s denials stand, with an emphasis on defending its reputation and operational integrity in the global market.
The Palestinian presidency has strongly criticized the U.S. for vetoing a UN Security Council resolution that called for a ceasefire and an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza. This marks the fourth time the U.S. has used its veto in this context, leading to accusations that it is encouraging Israel to continue its actions against the Palestinian people.
Palestinian officials and Hamas condemned the veto, calling it an unjustified challenge to international law and a hindrance to achieving peace and stability in the region. The UN resolution, supported by 14 of the 15 Security Council members, demanded an immediate, unconditional ceasefire and the release of hostages. However, the U.S., as a permanent member of the Security Council, blocked the resolution with its veto.

Smog, corruption, health risks, and political games: The dire reality of Delhi NCR
Delhi’s pollution crisis has become a recurring nightmare, with smog choking the city and health concerns rising every year. The Delhi government’s response? Imposing restrictions that seem more geared toward inconveniencing citizens and enabling systemic corruption than addressing the root causes of pollution. Unfortunately, I recently experienced firsthand how these measures have become a breeding ground for harassment and organized corruption.
A Firsthand Experience of Mismanagement and Exploitation
While traveling back to Punjab after a temple tour in Rajasthan, we passed through Delhi on November 18. Our journey began on November 14, before the vehicle restrictions imposed on November 15 came into effect. Despite this, we were stopped by traffic police, who claimed our car was not allowed in Delhi.
Our driver explained that we were merely in transit and had no intention of staying in Delhi. Yet, the officers insisted on issuing a challan of s. 42,000—an astronomical and intimidating penalty. The situation quickly turned into blatant extortion: the officers settled the matter for a bribe of s2,500.
Adding insult to injury, the police provided us with a “day code” on a piece of paper, advising us to show it to any other officer who might stop us within the next 24 hours. The implication was clear: this was a well-organized system of corruption, designed to milk money from travelers under the guise of enforcing environmental regulations.
Are the Rules Protecting Delhi’s Health or Perpetuating Harassment?
The government claims these restrictions are aimed at combating pollution and safeguarding public health. But incidents like this suggest otherwise. Rather than addressing the real culprits— industrial emissions, unchecked construction dust, and stubble burning— the authorities have turned travelers and ordinary citizens into easy targets.
For those merely passing through Delhi, the restrictions become an ordeal. There is no proper mechanism to exempt transit vehicles or to communicate clear guidelines. Instead, the system relies on intimidation, arbitrary fines, and organized corruption.
An Organized Network of Exploitation
The experience of receiving a “day code” highlights the shocking level of coordination among corrupt officials. This isn’t random misbehavior by a rogue officer; it’s a well-oiled system that preys on travelers unfamiliar with the rules.
Key Questions That Demand Answers
1. Why is there no exemption for vehicles in transit?
2. How are citizens and travelers expected to navigate unclear and poorly communicated restrictions?
3. What steps are being taken to root out the deep-seated corruption in traffic enforcement?
4. Why does the government focus on penalizing citizens instead of tackling the major contributors to pollution?
The Way Forward To genuinely address Delhi’s pollution crisis and restore public trust, the following steps must be taken immediately:
Clear Guidelines for Transit Vehicles: A transparent and publicly accessible mechanism must be established for vehicles passing through Delhi without stopping.
Independent Oversight: Anti-corruption bodies should monitor the enforcement of pollution restrictions to ensure they are not being exploited.
Focus on Real Solutions: The government should prioritize tackling industrial emissions, construction dust, and stubble burning, rather than imposing arbitrary restrictions on commuters and travelers.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption: Officers engaging in extortion and organized bribery must face strict disciplinary action.
Conclusion Delhi’s pollution crisis demands urgent action, but it cannot come at the cost of fairness, transparency, and public dignity. Harassment, exploitation, and corruption only add to the suffering of citizens, while doing little to address the real causes of pollution.
As someone who experienced this firsthand, I cannot help but question: Who is really benefiting from these so-called anti-pollution measures? The citizens of Delhi—or the corrupt officials exploiting them?

Nuclear safety at Zaporizhzhia plant remains at risk, says IAEA
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned that nuclear safety at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) is still “in jeopardy.” IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reported that the plant recently lost connection to its only remaining 750 kV power line twice in a few days. The first disconnection, caused by damage 17 km from the plant, lasted over 30 hours before being restored. A second disconnection occurred Thursday morning. The plant is now relying on its backup 330 kV line for crucial functions like reactor cooling. Prior to the conflict, the ZNPP had multiple power lines.

Since late September, tensions have escalated in Lebanon, with the Israeli army increasing airstrikes on the country, and Israel launching a ground operation in early October.
South Korea’s industry minister to engage with new US government on key sectors
South Korea’s Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun pledged to work closely with the incoming US administration to address uncertainties in the semiconductor and shipbuilding sectors. With semiconductors being South Korea’s largest export, Ahn stressed the need to monitor potential US policy shifts, such as tariffs or cuts to subsidies under the CHIPS Act. He emphasized
maintaining communication with the US to stabilize investments and exports. Ahn also highlighted growing opportunities in US naval shipbuilding and MRO services, urging swift action to capitalize on the sector’s potential. During meetings with industry leaders, he addressed concerns over potential policy changes that could impact the global semiconductor supply chain. He also called for stronger collaboration with the US to ensure the stability of South Korean investments in both industries.
UN reports over 880,000 displaced in Lebanon as food crisis deepens
The UN has reported that over 880,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon due to evacuation orders and airstrikes, with more than 500,000 seeking refuge in Syria. Those remaining in Lebanon face worsening food insecurity, with over 1.2 million people affected. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is providing support to displaced individuals, particularly children. The World Food Programme (WFP) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warn that the situation will worsen as food prices rise. The ongoing conflict has disrupted supply chains and deepened food insecurity, with nearly a quarter of Lebanon’s population already facing inadequate food consumption.

Number of women in Congress stalls for the first time since 2016
For the first time since 2016, the number of women in Congress has stalled, with elections results falling short of the previous gains. Currently, 150 women are set to serve in the next Congress, which could be the same number as on Election Day or slightly fewer if additional races are lost. The shift is the first decline in female representation in Congress since 2010.
Despite this, significant progress has been made over the past decade, particularly with a wave of Democratic women elected in 2018 and Republican women in 2020. However, this year’s election results indicate that further steps are needed to ensure sustained progress toward gender parity. The increase in female lawmakers has slowed due to factors like redistricting and the lack of competitive races. Women continue to make up only 28% of lawmakers, which advocates say is still far from reflecting the broader population’s diversity.
Justice Department uncovers misconduct in Trenton police practices
AJustice Department report released Thursday reveals a pattern of misconduct by Trenton, New Jersey police, including excessive force and unlawful stops. The investigation, prompted by an officer’s shooting of a young Black man, found violations of the Fourth Amendment and recommended reforms to improve training, accountability, and data collection.
The report highlighted multiple incidents where officers acted aggressively without legal justification, including the wrongful detainment of a 16-year-old and a Black woman in her car. Trenton’s mayor pledged to cooperate with the Justice Department to address the issues and implement the recommendations.
DEA halts airport passenger searches after civil rights concerns
The Justice Department has ordered the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to suspend its practice of searching passengers at airports and seizing cash, following a report from the department’s Office of the Inspector General. The report raised concerns about potential civil rights violations, racial profiling, and constitutional issues linked to the searches. The DEA was criticized for targeting passengers who bought last-minute tickets and pressuring them into searches without warrants, often leading to the seizure of money through
civil forfeiture. While the DEA agreed with most of the findings, it declined to comment further.
The report also highlighted a troubling case in which a passenger was coerced into consenting to a search after being told his refusal could cause him to miss his flight. In addition, an airline employee’s involvement in tipping off the DEA about passengers was found to be problematic, as they were paid a percentage of seized money. The Institute for Justice, which has filed a class action lawsuit against the DEA, has highlighted multiple instances of money being seized without probable cause.
Low vaccination rates for flu and COVID-19, CDC reports
Vaccination rates for flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are low among U.S. adults this season, according to the CDC. As of November 9, only 35% of adults had received the flu shot, and less than 18% had received the COVID-19 vaccine. Many unvaccinated adults report plans to get vaccinated, though. Flu vaccination rates are similar to last year, while COVID-19 vaccinations are about the same as November 2023. The CDC continues to recommend these vaccines for everyone aged 6 months and older.
The report also highlights rising vaccine hesitancy, especially following Presidentelect Trump’s nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent anti-vaccine activist, for health secretary. Pediatricians warn that his influence could lead to more vaccine rejection and outbreaks. The CDC also reported low vaccination coverage in nursing homes, with only 30% of residents receiving the new COVID-19 vaccine and 58% getting the flu shot. However, RSV vaccinations have risen, from less than 7% last year to nearly 18% this year. The CDC recommends RSV vaccines for adults over 75 and those with higher health risks, and for pregnant mothers to protect infants.
Two dead as bomb cyclone strikes Washington state, causing massive power disruptions
Apowerful bomb cyclone battered Washington state, causing widespread damage, power outages, and the deaths of two people. The storm, which formed off the coast on Tuesday, brought heavy rain, winds, and snow to the Pacific Northwest. The victims were a woman killed by a fallen tree in Lynnwood and another in Bellevue.
At its peak, over 320,000 customers were without power. The storm has now moved on, but the region is preparing for another round of severe weather, including gusty winds and more mountain snow. In Northern California, an atmospheric river has caused flooding and rockslides, with up to 16 inches of rain expected to fall across already saturated areas, further complicating the recovery efforts.
SpaceX’s Starship successfully completes test flight, fails to catch booster
SpaceX’s Starship rocket successfully completed its sixth test flight on November 20, despite failing to catch its booster using the “chopstick arms” as planned. The rocket launched from SpaceX’s Starbase in Texas, but the booster was directed to splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico after four minutes due to technical issues. Notably, the flight included the ignition of a Raptor engine in space, a key milestone for future orbital missions. SpaceX also tested modifications to the heat shield and landing procedures, marking significant progress toward the Starship’s long-term goals, including NASA’s Artemis 3 mission.

While Congress rejected a similar proposal last year, the senators emphasized that China is actively supporting the change, and the U.S. risks losing its leadership role in this area. The FAA and the Air Line Pilots Association have expressed opposition, citing concerns about scheduling, training, and pilot contracts. The push comes amid ongoing discussions about the future of the pilot workforce and the need for experienced aviators.
Nearly 40,000 healthcare workers at the University of California (UC) system completed a two-day strike on November 20 and 21, protesting what they described as UC’s bad-faith bargaining and unfair labor practices. The workers, represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3299, include service workers, patient care technical workers, skilled craft workers, and staff from UC’s 10 campuses, five medical centers, and other facilities.
The strike followed accusations that UC had been engaging in illegal conduct, such as showing up to negotiations without the authority to make compromises and attempting to bypass bargaining to impose
higher healthcare costs on workers. Liz Perlman, AFSCME’s executive director, emphasized the essential roles these workers play, saying, “We do need to be taken care of, too.”
In solidarity, about 4,000 members of another union, University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE)-CWA Local 9119, also joined the strike. UC officials expressed hope that labor unions would work together to reach a fair deal soon, ensuring that essential functions, including patient care, continue to meet the high standards expected at the university.
The UC system disputed claims of badfaith bargaining, stating that the university had met with AFSCME numerous times and had proposed economic increases and wage adjustments in response to union demands.

Lower turkey prices help reduce the cost of Thanksgiving dinner this year
Inflation-weary consumers are set to pay less for their traditional Thanksgiving dinner this year, thanks in large part to a drop in turkey prices. The cost of the holiday meal, which includes cranberries, sweet potatoes, and stuffing, has decreased for the second consecutive year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual survey.
Turkey prices fell by 6% as demand cooled, with some consumers opting to serve beef and pork instead. However, the cost of a Thanksgiving meal is still 19% higher than pre-pandemic levels. The average price for a meal serving 10 people is $58.08, down from $61.17 last year.
While turkey prices have dropped, they remain higher than before the pandemic, though consumers are now purchasing fewer turkeys. The price of other meal items, such as fresh vegetables and milk, also saw declines, although processed items like dinner rolls and stuffing increased in cost. Despite lower prices, inflation remains a concern, affecting both consumers and farm families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals transcends borders, with numerous tributes paid to the Mahatma during his foreign trips. These gestures reflect his effort to keep Gandhi’s legacy alive and relevant on the global stage, demonstrating his commitment to promoting peace and harmony worldwide.
In a significant moment, during his visit to Guyana, PM Modi honored Gandhi at a statue, marking the 21st instance of paying tribute to the Mahatma abroad. Another notable tribute occurred on August 23, 2024, when PM Modi visited Kyiv, Ukraine, and paid homage at Gandhi’s statue, a poignant act symbolizing peace amidst conflict.
On June 21, 2023, during International Yoga Day, PM Modi honored Gandhi at the UN Headquarters in the US, tying India’s cultural roots to global peace efforts. Earlier, in May 2023, he unveiled a bust of Gandhi in Hiroshima, Japan, a city deeply associated with peace after the tragedy of the atomic bomb. In October 2021, PM Modi offered a floral tribute to Gandhi’s legacy in Rome, Italy.

Canada rolls back extra screening for India-bound travelers amid diplomatic tensions
Canada has reversed its decision to implement extra security screening measures for travelers flying to India, which had been put in place “out of an abundance of caution” following a diplomatic dispute between the two countries. The revised measures now ensure that passengers will not face additional screening. Canada’s Transport Minister Anita Anand had previously stated that these temporary security checks could lead to some delays. The move came amid strained relations between India and Canada, sparked by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusations that Indian agents were involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Vancouver in June 2023. Trudeau claimed to have shared “credible information” about the incident with international intelligence partners, including the U.S. In response, Canada expelled Indian diplomats, and India retaliated by expelling a Canadian diplomat. Trudeau has condemned the Indian government’s alleged support for criminal activities on Canadian soil, including murders and extortion.

Brazil’s Bolsonaro accused of attempting a coup after 2022 election loss
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been named in a federal police report that accuses him of attempting to overthrow the government following his loss in the 2022 election. Bolsonaro is one of 37 individuals facing charges related to the violent abolition of Brazil’s democratic state, as well as involvement in a coup d’état and operating as part of a criminal organization. The accusations follow the January 2023 riots by his supporters, who stormed key government buildings in Brasília, aiming to destabilize the newly inaugurated government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The police report details plans by some of Bolsonaro’s allies to disrupt the democratic process, including an alleged plot to assassinate President Lula. The findings cap nearly two years of investigations into Bolsonaro’s role in the unrest, which came after his refusal to concede the election. With the report now in the hands of Brazil’s Supreme Court, prosecutors will decide whether to bring charges against Bolsonaro and his associates.

The resignation is the latest in a series of political challenges for Prime Minister Trudeau’s government.

Dollar hits 13-month peak while Bitcoin approaches $100,000
The U.S. dollar has reached a 13-month high, buoyed by positive economic data and expectations of continued strength in the U.S. economy. The dollar’s climb is largely driven by robust growth in key sectors, including employment and consumer spending, as well as the Federal Reserve’s stance on interest rates. Despite concerns over inflation, the central bank’s consistent tightening measures have reassured investors, contributing to the dollar’s gains. As a result, the greenback is now at its highest level since late 2022, a sign of investor confidence in the U.S. economy amid global uncertainties.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin is drawing attention as it eyes the $100,000 mark, fueled by growing optimism in the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin’s price has surged in recent weeks, driven by a combination of factors including institutional interest, favorable regulatory developments, and a broader shift towards digital assets. The
US official says tariffs aren’t the only issue affecting trade
Asenior U.S. diplomat emphasized that tariffs are not the sole determinant of trade policy, despite ongoing concerns over President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on imports. Matt Murray, the senior U.S. official for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), noted that issues like supply chain resilience, trade facilitation, digital trade, and good governance are equally important for fostering strong economic relations. Murray’s comments come amid fears that Trump’s tariff proposals could lead to protectionist policies that may negatively impact trade relations with countries like South Korea. Despite these concerns, Murray underscored the importance of multilateral discussions, especially within APEC, to address a broader range of trade issues. He also highlighted South Korea’s role as the host of the next APEC summit, where discussions on trade and innovation will be key topics.
China expresses willingness to engage with the US on bilateral trade
China has expressed its willingness to engage in talks with the United States to advance bilateral trade relations. This statement marks a step toward easing tensions that have arisen due to trade disputes between the two countries. China’s government emphasized that open communication could foster an environment for cooperation, which would benefit both economies. Although the trade war initiated in 2018 led to tariffs and other restrictions, China has been keen to stabilize and strengthen its trade ties with the U.S.
Officials from both sides are expected to discuss critical trade issues such as tariffs,
intellectual property protection, and market access. The U.S. has sought to address imbalances in trade, while China has been focused on protecting its domestic industries and economic interests. Both countries have indicated that resolving these disputes through dialogue would contribute to global economic stability.
By signaling a readiness to engage in discussions, China is showing a diplomatic approach that aims to reduce trade friction and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes. These talks could pave the way for greater economic collaboration between the two largest economies in the world, enhancing trade flows, investment opportunities, and international partnerships.
Russia imposes restrictions on enriched uranium exports to the US
Russia has imposed restrictions on the export of enriched uranium to the United States, marking a significant shift in its energy and diplomatic relations with Washington. This move comes amid growing geopolitical tensions between the two nations, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions imposed by the U.S. and its allies. Enriched uranium is a critical component for nuclear fuel, and Russia’s decision to limit its exports could have a profound impact on U.S. nuclear energy production, which relies
on Russian supplies for fuel processing.
The U.S. has been a major consumer of Russian enriched uranium, which is used in nuclear power plants across the country. Russia is one of the world’s largest producers of uranium, and its restrictions could push the U.S. to seek alternative sources or develop domestic capabilities, potentially increasing costs and affecting the energy market. This could also disrupt global supply chains in the nuclear energy sector, as many countries, including several European nations, also depend on Russian uranium.
This move by Russia is seen as part of a broader strategy to exert economic and political pressure on the U.S. and its allies. By limiting access to enriched uranium, Russia could signal its willingness to leverage energy resources as a tool of geopolitical influence. For the U.S., this restriction could accelerate efforts to diversify its nuclear fuel sources and reduce dependency on foreign suppliers, particularly those in adversarial nations. The full impact of this decision remains to be seen, but it underscores the growing economic and strategic rivalry between Russia and the United States.
The rise of Bitcoin, coupled with the strengthening dollar, reflects a divergence in traditional and digital assets. While the dollar’s strength is indicative of traditional market confidence, Bitcoin’s ascent highlights the growing interest in decentralized currencies as an alternative to fiat currencies.

Texas governor instructs state agencies to withdraw investments from China
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered state agencies to divest assets linked to China, citing concerns over national security and economic risks. The directive, issued in November 2024, requires state entities to sever financial ties with Chinese companies and remove investments in China-related assets. This move is part of broader efforts by Texas to distance itself from the Chinese government and reduce potential vulnerabilities arising from China’s growing influence in global markets. Abbott’s decision follows growing bipartisan concern in the U.S. about China’s role in strategic industries such as technology, energy, and telecommunications. Many lawmakers and state officials argue that Chinese investments in U.S. markets could compromise national security and lead to sensitive data or critical infrastructure being controlled by adversarial powers. As part of the divestment order, Texas state agencies must sell off stocks, bonds, and other assets related to Chinese businesses and government-backed entities within the next year.
The Texas government has framed this policy as a way to protect the state’s economic interests and uphold national security. Abbott has also emphasized that the divestment is in response to China’s actions, including its military expansion, economic practices, and human rights concerns. This decision aligns with a broader national trend, as other U.S. states and the federal government have taken similar steps to curtail China’s economic footprint in key sectors.
The divestment plan is expected to affect a significant portion of Texas’s investment portfolio, which includes assets tied to Chinese firms in technology, energy, and telecommunications. While supporters view the move as necessary to safeguard U.S. interests, critics argue that it could disrupt markets and limit investment opportunities. However, for Texas, this order represents a clear stance on reducing reliance on China in favor of more secure, domestic investment strategies.
cryptocurrency market has experienced renewed investor confidence, partly due
to speculation that Bitcoin could see significant gains in the near future.

Adani’s Australian coal unit hit with human rights complaint
IndoUS Tribune Newsdesk
Adani’s Australian coal unit is facing a human rights complaint over its operations, with allegations of exploiting local workers and impacting indigenous communities. The complaint, filed by a coalition of environmental and human rights organizations, specifically targets the Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, which is operated by Adani Mining, a subsidiary of the Indian multinational Adani Group. The project has been controversial since its inception due to environmental concerns, particularly its potential contribution to climate change through increased carbon emissions.
The human rights complaint highlights the negative effects of the Carmichael mine on local communities, especially indigenous peoples who claim their ancestral lands have
been adversely affected. Activists argue that Adani has not properly consulted with these communities and has failed to respect their rights to free, prior, and informed consent regarding the use of their lands. Additionally, there are concerns about the treatment of workers, including low wages and poor working conditions.
The complaint also raises concerns about the environmental damage caused by the mine, which is one of the largest coal projects in the world. The mine’s expansion could result in significant air and water pollution, further exacerbating the impacts on local communities and wildlife. Environmental groups have long criticized the mine for its potential to harm the Great Barrier Reef, due to the risk of coal dust and water runoff affecting the delicate ecosystem.
In response, Adani has denied any wrongdoing and stated that it is committed to operating in line with Australian laws and regulations. The company argues that it has provided employment opportunities and infrastructure improvements to the region. However, the ongoing legal and public relations battles highlight the broader global debate over the future of fossil fuel projects and their social and environmental implications.

South Korean steelmakers are urging the government to develop thorough strategies in response to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed trade policies, particularly concerning tariffs on steel imports. The steel industry, a key sector in South Korea’s economy, has expressed concerns that Trump’s protectionist measures could severely affect their exports to the United States, one of their largest markets. South Korean steelmakers fear that the proposed tariffs, which could target Chinese steel and other foreign imports, may extend to their products as well, potentially leading to higher costs and reduced competitiveness in the U.S. market.
Indian real estate forecast to thrive in 2025, office spaces expected to lead, say investors
Investors in the Asia-Pacific region are increasingly optimistic about Indian real estate in 2025, with a particular focus on office spaces. As India continues its economic recovery post-pandemic, the real estate sector is gaining traction due to a growing demand for commercial properties, especially in major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. Investors are betting on India’s expanding corporate sector, as more businesses look to establish or expand their presence in the country, driving the need for modern office spaces.
Office spaces are expected to lead the growth in the real estate market, driven by factors such as India’s growing tech and financial sectors, which require more office space for their expanding workforce. The trend of hybrid work models, which balances remote and in-office work, is also fueling demand for flexible and well-located office spaces. Investors see significant potential in premium office buildings that offer high-quality amenities, sustainability features, and proximity to transport hubs.
In addition to office spaces, there is
optimism surrounding residential and retail real estate, but the office sector is seen as the primary driver of market growth. The increasing influx of foreign investment and India’s status as a global outsourcing hub also contribute to the bullish outlook for real estate. The stable economic environment, coupled with favorable government policies, has strengthened investor confidence, with many anticipating continued growth in 2025. As a result, Asian investors are keen to capitalize on India’s thriving real estate market, positioning it as a key asset class in their portfolios.
In light of these developments, South Korean steel companies are calling for a comprehensive policy response to safeguard their interests. Industry leaders are also urging the government to enhance domestic industry competitiveness by investing in technological advancements and improving production processes. They argue that in an increasingly protectionist global trade environment, it is essential for South Korea’s steel sector to remain adaptable and resilient. With the potential for significant shifts in international trade under Trump’s administration, South Korea’s steelmakers are seeking proactive measures to secure their place in global markets and ensure continued economic growth.

One attendee shared the video on Instagram, calling the act disrespectful and criticizing the fan for flaunting their wealth in such a manner. The post praised Khurrana for his classy response, highlighting his humility and focus on using wealth for good.

By: Vandana Jhingan
On November 15, over 1,000 attendees, including Republican leaders and community figures, gathered at the Rana Reagan Community Center in Carol Stream, Illinois, to celebrate the historic victory of Trump 2.0. The event, co-hosted by Krishna Bansal and Vandana Jhingan of the Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC), along with Haribhai Patel of Bhartiya Senior Citizens of Chicago, paid tribute to the pivotal role Hindu Americans played in securing President Trump’s second-term victory, especially in key battleground states.
The celebration began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by speeches from influential leaders. Vandana Jhingan expressed her gratitude for the Hindu American community’s efforts in mobilizing voters, emphasizing how the victory would have a positive impact on the global Hindu community, particularly by ending atrocities in Bangladesh and strengthening ties between the U.S. and India. She highlighted how the victory signals a brighter future for both countries.
Krishna Bansal reflected on the Republican Hindu Coalition’s history, noting how Hindu Americans had become an increasingly influential community in U.S. politics. He pointed out that the community’s growing political power played a key role in shifting the national election results,
especially in swing states.
He also stressed that Hindu Americans are now among the most educated and successful groups in the country, contributing significantly to political campaigns at all levels. Bansal expressed hope that more Hindu Americans would be appointed to positions in President Trump’s Cabinet and pledged continued involvement in U.S. politics.

The event underscored the community’s growing influence in shaping the nation’s political landscape and their dedication to continuing their efforts to “Make America Great Again.”
The Sage Tradition in Ramcharitmanas The Third Sage – Lord Parashuram
Sage Parashuram, also known as Lord Parashuram, holds a significant position in ancient texts. His greatness can be gauged from the fact that he is counted among the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The list of these ten avatars is as follows:
Matsya Kurma
Varaha
Narasimha
Vamana
Parashuram
Lord Ram
Lord Krishna
Buddha Kalki
Rajendra Kapil
Phone: 847-962-1291
Parashuram was born into the household of Sage Jamadagni. His mother, Renuka, was a brave Kshatriya woman of her time. With a Brahmin father and a Kshatriya mother, Parashuram possessed a remarkable blend of wisdom and warrior strength. His childhood name was Bhargava Ram. As he grew, he mastered a special weapon called “Parshu” (axe), which eventually earned him the name Parashuram.
The Wrath of Parashuram
Once, some arrogant Kshatriya kings misbehaved with his father, Sage Jamadagni, which enraged Parashuram. To avenge this insult, he entered the battlefield with his forces.
During that era, some Kshatriya kings were tyrannical and mistreated their subjects. Parashuram took it upon himself to teach them a lesson. As one tale suggests, he annihilated the Kshatriya clans 21 times.
Parashuram’s Obedience
In another legend, Sage Jamadagni once became furious with his wife, Renuka. When Parashuram returned home, his father ordered him to behead his mother. After a moment’s hesitation,
he obeyed. Pleased with his son’s obedience, Sage Jamadagni offered him a boon.
Realizing his mistake, Parashuram requested his mother be brought back to life and that she should not remember the incident. The sage granted his wish, and Renuka was revived without any memory of the event.
Parashuram’s Appearance in Ramcharitmanas
In Ramcharitmanas, Parashuram enters the scene during Sita’s swayamvar in King Janak’s court. A staunch devotee of Lord Shiva, Parashuram became enraged upon hearing that Shiva’s bow had been broken during the swayamvar.
The challenge of the swayamvar was that any valiant prince who could string and break Shiva’s bow would marry Sita.
After several kings failed even to lift the bow, Lord Ram, guided by Sage Vishwamitra, broke it effortlessly. The sound of the bow breaking reached Parashuram, who hurried to King Janak’s court, brimming with anger.
Parashuram’s imposing figure, clad in ascetic garments and armed with
weapons, intimidated many in the court. The jealous kings, envious of Ram, secretly rejoiced at the potential disruption.
The Confrontation with Ram and Lakshman
Seeing the broken bow, Parashuram demanded to know who had committed the act. With composure, Lord Ram stepped forward and admitted his action. However, Parashuram refused to believe that a mere servant could break Lord Shiva’s bow, comparing Ram to his adversary Sahasrabahu.
Lakshman, standing beside Ram, could not resist teasing Parashuram. He remarked that they had broken many bows in their childhood, yet no one had ever been this angry. Lakshman’s playful jibes further enraged Parashuram, who threatened him with his axe. However, Lakshman continued to mock him, saying, “You’re trying to scare us with your axe as if blowing on a mountain would make it crumble.”
Sage Vishwamitra intervened to calm the situation, urging Parashuram to ignore Lakshman’s provocations. Ram then humbly stepped forward, offering respect and stating he had no
intention of disrespecting Lord Shiva’s bow. Parashuram, impressed by Ram’s humility and wisdom, asked him to string another bow to prove his strength. Ram obliged, clearing all doubts in Parashuram’s mind.
Realizing Ram’s divine nature, Parashuram was overcome with reverence. He acknowledged Ram’s greatness and sought forgiveness for his harsh words. Tulsidas beautifully describes this moment:
“Recognizing Ram’s power, Parashuram’s heart was filled with devotion and joy. He folded his hands, his heart unable to contain his love, and spoke humbly, seeking forgiveness.”
Parashuram’s respect for Lord Ram symbolizes the adherence to dharma and the unity of sages and warriors in Hindu culture.
Legacy of Parashuram
It is said that Parashuram also lived during the Dwapar Yuga and taught archery to warriors like Dronacharya and Karna. With immense reverence, we bow to Lord Parashuram, a sage and warrior par excellence!

Matt Gaetz’s resignation from Congress and withdrawal as Donald Trump’s nominee for Attorney General has left the Republican Party grappling with yet another scandal that threatens to overshadow Trump’s second administration.
Once hailed as a loyal Trump ally and conservative firebrand, Gaetz’s fall from grace is a sobering reminder of the perils of prioritizing personal loyalty over ethical integrity and public trust.
The Gaetz Conundrum
Gaetz’s rise in the GOP was as rapid as it was controversial. His brash style and unflinching loyalty to Trump made him a darling of the MAGA movement, but his political career was always underpinned by scandal.
Allegations of sexual misconduct and ties to sex trafficking followed him for years, even as the Department of Justice ultimately closed its investigation without filing charges in 2023.
The unresolved questions surrounding these allegations and an ongoing House Ethics Committee probe into his behavior raised significant red flags. Yet, Trump’s decision to nominate Gaetz as Attorney General seemed to sidestep these concerns, sparking bipartisan outrage and public skepticism.
The move came across as a political miscalculation, emblematic of Trump’s preference for loyalty over competence, and it ultimately backfired spectacularly.
A Scandal Too Big to Contain Gaetz’s tenure in Congress was marked by more than just ethical concerns. His role in the ousting of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy highlighted his penchant for disruption and self-serving political tactics.
Far from being a principled stand, Gaetz’s maneuver alienated key allies and deepened divisions within the Republican Party.
Compounding these issues, reports emerged that Gaetz had sought a preemptive pardon from Trump during the first term, ostensibly tied to the DOJ investigation.
This revelation added fuel to the fire, raising serious concerns about the misuse of presidential power and Gaetz’s motivations.
Amid mounting scrutiny and political pressure, Gaetz announced his withdrawal from the Attorney General nomination, citing a desire not to distract the administration.
Days later, he resigned from Congress, ending the House Ethics Committee probe into his conduct but leaving a legacy of unanswered questions.
A Stain on Trump’s Second Term Gaetz’s nomination and subsequent downfall have become a major embarrassment for Trump’s second administration. What was intended as a show of loyalty to a trusted ally turned into a political liability, undermining public confidence and fueling criticism of Trump’s leadership.
The GOP is now left to clean up the
Matt Gaetz and Trump 2.0:
A political gamble gone awry
mess, navigating internal disarray and eroded public trust at a time when unity is desperately needed.
For Trump, the Gaetz saga is a stark reminder of the importance of vetting and the risks of prioritizing loyalty over public perception. The administration’s credibility has taken a hit, and its ability to push forward a cohesive agenda may be further hampered by the lingering shadow of this controversy.
Lessons for the GOP
The Republican Party must recognize the broader implications of Gaetz’s rise and fall. His story is not just about one individual’s downfall but a cautionary tale about the dangers of ignoring ethical standards in favor of political expediency. As the GOP looks to the future, it must grapple with these questions: How can the party rebuild trust? How can it distance itself from figures who prioritize self-interest over public service?
The Road Ahead
As Trump’s second term unfolds, the fallout from the Gaetz debacle serves as a wake-up call. For Gaetz, what once appeared to be a meteoric rise in Republican politics has culminated in disgrace. For the GOP, the scandal underscores the urgent need for leadership rooted in integrity and accountability.
The question now is whether the Republican Party can rise above these challenges and chart a new course—or whether it will remain mired in the distractions and divisions that have defined its recent history. In the end, the legacy of Trump 2.0 and the GOP’s future will depend on its ability to learn from this debacle and prioritize the values that truly matter to the American people.

MARKETS
The US post-election stock rally has stalled. With the recent inflation data, the Fed may not cut as much as many expect. The US bond market is reacting negatively to high annual deficits & total debt, so the long-term rates have moved up (the Fed only controls the short-term rates directly).
The INDIAN stock market is critically at the borderline of pullback & correction with about 9-10% decline from lateSeptember high. Rupee weakness will make the returns worse for the US investors. (Market pullback is 5-10% decline from the recent highs, correction is 1020% decline, bear market is more than 20% decline.)
According to the SBI, Indian RUPEE may depreciate to high80s or low-90s vs dollar (current $1 ~ Rs 84).
ECONOMYTRUMPONOMICS 2.0
TARIFFS on friends & foes (the talk now is 10% on all, 60% on China) will have a global impact & may start new trade wars. However, as India has high tariffs/ customs for luxury imports, there may be high/ matching counter-tariffs in some
areas. The new US tariffs may favor US reshoring. Overlooked in these tariff wars may be the fact that countries have different mixes in their national income - taxes (individual & corporate), custom duties/ tariffs, fees, sales of government assets, etc.
Lower US corporate TAXES will make the US businesses more competitive. Many countries with higher corporate taxes may not lower them suddenly or at all but may resort to rebates or incentives without triggering WTO disputes.
Tougher IMMIGRATION rules will hurt Indian outsourcing & IT companies. These businesses require regular flow of people for training, workflow & supervision.
ENERGY policies on US oil/ gas exploration & production (E&P) may lead to lower energy prices & that would be a positive for India & the EMs. Some resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war will also be positive for global energy & supply-chains.
Trump’s pronouncements on TAIWAN, such as Taiwan must pay the US for defense, may encourage China to test the US commitment to protect Taiwan. In his previous term, Trump insisted that the NATO members must spend 2%+ of their budget on defense; this indirectly forced the NATO countries to purchase more US military equipment. India may also feel pressure to reduce dependence on Russian military equipment in favor of
those from the US & Europe.

Indian brokerages face additional regulations by the SEBI on speculative trading, especially the derivatives (futures & options). The newer brokerages that focus on speculative futures & options trading would be most impacted. Established brokers have diversified sources of revenues, so they won’t be impacted as much.

Unlocking longevity: Could blocking a single protein extend lifespan and improve health?
By: Dr Avi Verma, MD(h)
Agroundbreaking study has demonstrated that targeting a single protein involved in inflammation could significantly extend lifespan—at least in mice. This raises the tantalizing question: could similar treatments slow aging in humans?
The Role of Interleukin-11 in Aging
Researchers focused on interleukin-11 (IL-11), a protein linked to inflammation and age-related cellular damage. Inflammation has long been associated with aging, and IL-11 is emerging as a key player in these processes.
In the experiment, middle-aged mice (approximately 17 months old, similar to 55 human years) were injected with an antibody that blocks IL-11 every three weeks until the end of their lives. Compared to untreated mice, the treated group lived an average of 25% longer.
Health Benefits Beyond Longevity
The benefits of blocking IL-11 extended beyond lifespan. Treated mice:
Maintained better health: They were slimmer, stronger, and exhibited superior liver function and metabolism.
Experienced lower cancer rates: Only 16% of treated mice developed cancer
compared to 61% in the untreated group.
These findings suggest that therapies targeting IL-11 could address not just longevity but also the quality of life during aging.
Human Applications: A Long Road Ahead
While the results in mice are promising, scientists caution that human applications remain speculative. The exact mechanisms through which IL-11 impacts longevity are not yet fully understood. One theory is that the treatment’s ability to reduce cancer prevalence played a significant role in extending the mice’s lifespan.
Current Trials and Future Directions
Some anti-IL-11 therapies are already
being tested in early clinical trials for age-related diseases like fibrotic lung disease, a condition characterized by excessive lung scarring. These trials aim to evaluate the safety and efficacy of IL-11-blocking treatments.
Potential Risks and Challenges
Despite its promise, blocking IL-11 could have unintended consequences. Inflammation is a critical part of the immune system’s defense mechanisms, and suppressing it could leave individuals vulnerable to infections and other illnesses. Mice, kept in pathogen-free environments, might not reveal these potential side effects.
Jason Kim, a molecular medicine expert, cautions that while IL-11 inhibition might delay aging, it could also disrupt essential immune responses.
Short-Term Treatments and AntiAging Potential
Lead researcher Anissa Widjaja and her team are now investigating whether short-term anti-IL-11 therapies could deliver anti-aging benefits without compromising immune function.
Widjaja states, “People are living longer now, so the question is whether they can stay healthy for longer. Our research offers hope that anti-IL-11 therapy might achieve that goal.”
Conclusion
The potential to extend human lifespan and improve the quality of aging is an exciting frontier in medicine. However, much more research is needed before therapies targeting IL-11 can be safely applied to humans. The possibility of not just living longer but also living healthier lives represents a paradigm shift in aging science—a hope that could redefine what it means to grow old.
As research progresses, we edge closer to answering one of humanity’s oldest questions: can we truly delay aging while maintaining health? Stay tuned as science explores this promising horizon.

Winter hair care routine: Tips for healthy, shiny hair in the cold months
As winter arrives, it brings a host of challenges for our hair. Cold air, low humidity, and indoor heating can all strip moisture from the hair, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. To keep your locks healthy and shiny during the colder months, it’s essential to adapt your hair care routine to meet the demands of the season. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the winter hair care routine and keep your hair looking vibrant and nourished.
1. Hydration is Key
In the winter, the air lacks moisture, and indoor heating systems further exacerbate the dryness, leaving hair feeling parched and brittle. To counteract this, hydration should be the cornerstone of your winter hair care routine.
Deep Conditioning: Opt for a deep conditioning treatment once a week to replenish moisture. Look for products that contain ingredients like argan oil, shea butter, or coconut oil, which are excellent for locking in moisture and restoring softness to your hair. Leave-in conditioners can also help provide extra hydration.
Moisturizing Shampoo: Switch to a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner duo, as these are formulated to hydrate and nourish the hair. Avoid shampoos that contain sulfates, as they can strip natural oils from your hair.
Leave-In Conditioner or Hair Masks: For added protection and moisture, use leave-in conditioners or overnight hair masks that can be applied before bed. This will allow your hair to absorb moisture throughout the night.
2. Avoid Over-Washing
While washing your hair is essential for removing dirt and oils, over-washing during the winter months can lead to dryness. The scalp produces natural oils that help keep your hair healthy, and frequent washing can strip away these oils.
Wash Less Frequently: Aim to wash your hair 2-3 times a week instead of daily. This allows your scalp to retain its natural moisture. If you feel the need to refresh your hair between washes, consider using a dry shampoo.
3. Protect Hair from the Cold
Exposure to harsh winter winds can damage the hair shaft, leading to dryness and split ends. Additionally, wearing hats and scarves can cause friction, leading to hair breakage.
Wear a Hat or Scarf: Opt for a soft, lined hat or scarf to protect your hair from the cold. Avoid wool hats, which can cause friction and static, leading to tangles and frizz. Instead, choose materials like cotton or silk for smoother protection.
Silk Pillowcase: Switch to a silk or satin pillowcase, which reduces friction while you sleep and helps maintain your hair’s moisture balance. This can prevent breakage and minimize frizz caused by cotton pillowcases.
4. Trim Regularly
Dry, winter air can make split ends and breakage more prevalent. To keep your hair healthy and looking its best, regular trims are essential.
Frequent Trims: Schedule a trim every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends from traveling up the hair shaft. This will also give your hair a fresh, healthy look and promote better hair growth.
5. Use Gentle Hair Care Products
The winter season calls for gentler hair care products to avoid further damage and breakage. Look for shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that are sulfate-free and free from harsh chemicals.
Avoid Alcohol-Based Products: Many hair styling products contain alcohol, which can dry out the hair, especially in winter. Opt for alcohol-free styling creams or serums that hydrate and provide moisture.
Nourishing Oils: Use nourishing hair oils like argan oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil to lock in moisture and prevent frizz. Apply a small amount of oil to the ends of your hair for smoothness and shine.
6. Limit Heat Styling
Excessive heat styling can further dehydrate and damage the hair, which is especially detrimental during the winter months when hair is already vulnerable to moisture loss.
Heat Protection: If you must use heat styling tools, such as a blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron, always apply a
scalp. To prevent this, incorporate scalp care into your winter routine.
Scalp Massages: Regular scalp massages help increase blood circulation to the hair follicles, promoting hair growth and preventing dryness. Use oils like tea tree oil or peppermint oil, which can also help alleviate dryness and itchiness.
Moisturizing Scalp Treatments: Consider using a hydrating scalp treatment or serum to keep the scalp moisturized and healthy. Ingredients like aloe vera and coconut oil can soothe the scalp and restore hydration.
8. Avoid Hot Showers
Hot water can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and frizzy. Though it may feel comforting on cold days, hot showers can do more harm than good for your hair.
Shower with Lukewarm Water: Try washing your hair with lukewarm or cool water to preserve moisture. Hot water opens up the hair cuticle, making it more prone to damage, while cool water helps seal the cuticle, locking in moisture.
9. Protect from Static
Winter weather often leads to static, which can make your hair look flyaway and frizzy. To combat static, consider these tips:
Use Anti-Static Products: Choose antistatic hair products or spritz a light leave-in conditioner to help smooth down flyaways. You can also rub a dryer sheet over your hair to minimize static.
Humidity Control: A humidifier in your home can help combat the dryness in the air, keeping both your skin and hair hydrated.
Taking care of your hair in winter requires some extra effort, but with the right routine, your hair can remain healthy, hydrated, and shiny even during the coldest months.
By focusing on hydration, protection, and gentle hair care, you can avoid dryness, breakage, and frizz, ensuring that your hair
