Sydney, May 7 (Australia India News Newsdesk)

In a significant move to enhance Australia–India cooperation in agriculture and textiles, the Consul General of India in Sydney, Dr. S. Janakiraman, recently visited Narrabri and Gunnedah — key cottonproducing regions in New South Wales.

During his visit, Dr. Janakiraman toured the AFF cotton farms and ginning units in Narrabri, gaining firsthand insight into Australia’s cotton industry. The Consul General was accompanied by Member of Parliament Warren Kirby and Irfan Malik, president of the NSW chapter of the Australia India Business Council.

A key highlight of the visit was a meeting with MP Roy Butler, who expressed strong interest in expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities with India, particularly in cotton and related sectors. The discussions focused on strengthening trade ties, promoting innovation in textiles, and exploring collaborative opportunities in agricultural technologies.

The delegation also engaged with leading business figures from the agriculture, food, logistics, and warehousing sectors in both Narrabri and Gunnedah. The visit underscores the growing momentum in India–Australia economic engagement, especially in regional and rural trade development.

Dr. Janakiraman emphasized the importance of building sustainable partnerships that benefit both nations, with a focus on knowledge sharing and market access in high-quality agricultural produce.

This visit marks a step forward in India’s efforts to deepen cooperation with regional Australia in key sectors of mutual interest.
