Canberra marks Rabindranath Tagore’s 164th birth anniversary with cultural tributes

The Indian High Commission in Canberra, in collaboration with the Bengali Cultural Association of Canberra, recently commemorated the 164th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore with an evening rich in reflection, reverence, and cultural celebration.

Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay, along with renowned Australian scholar Dr. John Hood, shared heartfelt remarks on the enduring impact of Tagore’s life, literary brilliance, and global legacy. They highlighted Tagore's universal message of humanism, creativity, and cultural harmony. The event featured captivating cultural performances in Bangla by members of the Indian-origin Bengali community, bringing alive Tagore’s poetic spirit and the depth of Indian civilisation. Songs, poetry recitations, and dance performances offered a fitting tribute to the Nobel laureate and his timeless contributions to literature, music, and philosophy.
