Consul General (CG) Amarjeet Singh Takhi recently paid a farewell visit to Western Australia (WA) Premier Roger Cook MLA, expressing gratitude for his unwavering support of the Indian diaspora in the state. Their discussions encompassed the expanding bilateral trade, educational collaborations—including the rising number of Indian students in Western Australian universities—and the growth in tourism from India. They also addressed the prospects of establishing direct flight connections between India and Western Australia.
During the meeting, Consul General Takhi highlighted the inaugural National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA), set to take place at The Backlot Perth and the Indian-Pacific Research Centre (IPRC) at Murdoch University. He extended an invitation for Western Australian startups and innovators to participate in the upcoming Startup Mahakumbh in April 2025 in New Delhi. The Consul General conveyed his deepest appreciation to Premier Cook for his personal guidance and warmth throughout his tenure in Perth.
The National Indian Film Festival of Australia is scheduled to run from February 13 to March 2, 2025, spanning 18 days across seven cities, including Perth. The festival aims to celebrate Indian cinema and foster cultural exchange between India and Australia. Additionally, the Startup Mahakumbh in New Delhi is poised to bring together entrepreneurs and innovators from various sectors, providing a platform for collaboration and growth.
Consul General Takhi's tenure, which began in June 2022, has been marked by significant efforts to strengthen ties between India and Western Australia, particularly in areas of education, culture, and community engagement. His initiatives have been instrumental in promoting Indian traditions and fostering a robust relationship between the two regions.
