Melbourne came alive with the sights, sounds, and spirit of Karnataka as the Melbourne Kannada Sangha recently hosted a vibrant Ugadi celebration, supported by the Consulate General of India, Melbourne.

The event was attended by Clare O’Neil MP, Hon. Cassandra Fernando MP, and Cr. Jim Memeti, who joined members of the Indian community to mark the Kannada New Year with joy and cultural pride. Showcasing the traditions of Karnataka, the celebration also spotlighted trade, tourism, and cultural collaboration between India and Australia. A colourful mix of performances, exhibits, and community engagement activities made the occasion memorable.

The event underscored the growing role of Indian diaspora organisations in fostering cultural understanding and strengthening Victoria’s rich multicultural identity.
