Canberra, April 15 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
The Indian High Commission in Canberra recently observed the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, one of India's most prominent jurists, social reformers, and political leaders. The commemoration featured floral tributes and speeches honouring Ambedkar's legacy. The event was held at the High Commission, where High Commissioner Gopal Baglay led the tributes by laying a wreath in front of a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar. Members of the High Commission staff and other members of the Indian diaspora in Australia also participated in the ceremony, offering their respects to the man who played a pivotal role in the creation of India's Constitution.

In addition to his significant role as a principal architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Ambedkar was a key advocate for social justice and equality in India. As the first Minister of Law and Justice in independent India under Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Ambedkar worked tirelessly to combat social discrimination, especially against Dalits, formerly known as "Untouchables."

During the ceremony, High Commissioner Baglay emphasized Ambedkar's enduring influence on Indian society and the global community, stating, "Dr. Ambedkar's vision of a just and equitable society continues to inspire millions around the world. His commitment to human rights and social justice remains a guiding light for many, and it's important that we continue to honour his legacy."
The event in Canberra not only paid tribute to Ambedkar's historical contributions but also highlighted the ongoing efforts to promote social justice and equality within Indian communities across the globe.
