FICQ launches blanket drive to support Brisbane’s vulnerable during winter

As winter tightens its grip on Brisbane, the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ) has launched a blanket donation campaign aimed at supporting the city’s most vulnerable residents. The initiative calls upon member organisations and individuals to contribute towards the collective goal of providing warmth and care during the harsh cold season.

The campaign, launched this week, aims to collect and distribute at least 100 blankets to people in need across Brisbane.

FICQ is urging each of its member organisations to donate at least one blanket, valued at $25, by the deadline of Sunday, 29 June 2025. However, supporters are welcome to donate more, as every additional contribution will help expand the campaign’s reach and impact.

The blanket drive comes at a time when many residents, especially those experiencing homelessness or financial hardship, struggle to cope with dropping temperatures and long, cold nights. With limited access to shelter and basic resources, the need for warm bedding becomes critical during this time of year.

FICQ is working closely with local charities and support services to ensure that the donated blankets are delivered efficiently to those who need them most. The drive reflects the community’s continued commitment to serving the wider society and embodies values such as compassion, selfless service, and social responsibility.
