Telangana Cultural Day celebrated in Melbourne with community & dignitaries

Telangana Day was celebrated in Melbourne recently, in a cultural event hosted by the Melbourne Telangana Forum (MTF), showcasing the traditions and artistic heritage of India’s youngest state.


The event brought together Consul General of India in Melbourne, Sushil Kumar, federal MP Joanne Ryan, MP John Lister, local councillors, MTF president Lakshmi R Nookala, and members of the Indian-Australian community.



Colourful performances, folk music, and traditional dances representing Telangana’s cultural identity were presented during the program. Community members from across Victoria attended the celebrations, which were held to coincide with the anniversary of Telangana’s formation.


Speaking at the event, Sushil Kumar emphasised the importance of cultural events in preserving heritage and strengthening the bond between the diaspora and their homeland.
He praised MTF’s efforts in maintaining regional traditions abroad.



Joanne Ryan and John Lister acknowledged the vibrant contribution of the Indian community to Australian society and noted that multicultural events like Telangana Day promote inclusion and shared understanding.
Lakshmi R Nookala highlighted MTF’s ongoing commitment to cultural awareness and community engagement. She thanked the volunteers and performers who helped bring the event to life.


The event concluded with cultural exchanges and messages of unity, underlining the value of diversity in Australia’s multicultural society.
