Indian and Pakistani communities come together at Adelaide Eid

Eid is the festival of brotherhood and friendship. This year, the hand of friendship was extended by the Indian Australian Association of South Australia (IAASA) and Pakistani Australian Association of South Australia (PAASA) to each other at Eid, and gladly accepted from both sides.

Eid was celebrated by both Associations in its traditional spirit, and in the midst of all the drama of the Ind V Pak match at the ICC World Cup which followed shortly after.

IAASA celebrated Eid in a small way for only the second year in a row. Eid has not been on its calendar for years and after celebrating it last year for the first time in years, this year, the President of the Pakistani Association was invited to the function. Not only the President, but a few more members and their families came along and it was a warm, happy celebration with memories and reminiscences, music and food.

This was an incredibly special event, said PAASA President, Adeel Sadiq, as it was the first time PAASA had been invited to an IAASA event. In his speech as chief guest, he gave several examples of language, food, customs etc that Pakistanis and Indians have in common and how we can focus on these similarities and work
