The malty aroma from the cuppa in my hand takes me down the muddy laneway ofmy memories, memoriesthat I carry in my chest since the day I lefthome, circa 2000. In my mind's eye, I could see myselftravel back in time through those endless paddy fields, bythe mighty Brahmaputra, through thegently rollingslopes ofthe tea gardens, traversingthe thick bushes ofthe Kaziranga, spottinga rhino ortwo, upto the little oil town of Digboi, the place I was born.

I could seethose Bihu dancers and the hunky Dhulias dancing away in perfect harmony. I lose myself in thesea of humanity making theirway tosee Maa Kamakhya during Ambubashi mela. Suddenly, thephone lying nextto mesprings to life and I wake up in attention. "Hey! What's up?" thevoice at the otherend tells me. "We are comingto Melbourne nextweek. Is there anythingyou want from home?" With a smile I say, "Yes please, a packetofthestrongest and thefinest qualityAssam tea!"

The Hills are alive with thesound of music!

Simla is called Queen of the Hills and deservedlyso. The ·wow' factor for me has always been the spectacular beauty of snow-capped mountains, the lush green deodar forests (rhododendron, pine and oak) and the romanticweather. In all these years my heart still skips a beat when I meander mywayto this magical place, the home of my mother and grandmother. I waitwith awe forthe firstsight ofthe houses on the hills offeringthe grandeur and beauty associated withthiscapital city of Himachal Pradesh. With moderateweather in summerand snow in winter, Simla is the summer capital ofnorthern India, the place to be when I need some 'me' time, in a glorious and serenesetting.

Mystate is filled with rich history aswell as beauty, and has many indescribablesightstosee. Romance, war, peace and development have all brought Karnataka towhere t is today.

Didyou know, Rani Chennamma, thefrst woman tofight for hercountry againstthe British Empire, was born in Karnataka. The valiant Queen defended herfort and herpeoplefor12 days in 1824 beforetraitorswithin herwalls caused her defeat.

Karnataka to me is a beautiful statewith something new happening all thetime. Butfor me, its history will remain its charm.

Even though I was bought up in the Middle East, I have alwaysworn my 'Mallu' tagwith much pride. For me, Kerala is all aboutfood, lush greenery and excellent movies in that order! A hundred words is not enough to describethe cuisineof God's own paradise, the land thatgifted 'black gold' to the world. It's a cuisine that venerates and celebratesspices; be itthefierybeef roast, mild coconutyfish curry orthe sweetpayasam. It's alsothe state that comes together irrespective of caste, creed or religion overa banana leaf and the ubiquitousOnam sadya. And it's also the land that gifted coconut oil forthe health freaks oftheworld! Ente Kera/am
