Aday after the budget, P1Vf Malcolm Turnbull aJI but confirmed 2July as the date for the next federal election. All that needs co be done is the drive down to the Gover.nor General's office to formally notify him to issue the writs and then the unofficial election campaign of the past few weeks becomes legit.
Knowing that this will be happening, there was intense pressure on the PM and the Treasurer to deliver a budget which would excite and yet be fiscally responsible. At first overview, they seem co have done chat with a budget that takes away from the wealthy but largely does not disenfranchise the poor. ]\,fiddle Australia does get some loving but not to the extent small businesses do.
Cigarette taxes will help raise funds, overseas firms which have been rorting the system will have to pay their taxes, and superannuation invescors will have
some of their benefits and entitlements cut. i'vlonies wiU flow towards business tax cuts, helping smooch out superannuation contributions and ta..xes for middle income families and help young, unemployed people train and gee work. A small amount will also go towards paying down debt, but tl1e budget emergency as identified in the Abbott-Hockey budget has now been downgraded to warning levels only.
From the migrant perspective, the news is generally good. While few will be affected by tl1e loss in superannuation entitlements, more will benefit from the add-ons which the government is offering to .low and middle income earners in superannuation and carry forward entitlements. The bad news is that the government is cappingthe S37 Medicare rebate for doccors' visits which over ti.me will force the doctors co seek co-payment from the patients for their visits. Also, the Government's child care reforms will be deferred by one year to a scarring date of 1July, 2018 due to the Family Tax Benefit reforms required to fw1d the chi.Id care package not being passed by the Senate. This \Viii put pressure on women from migrant backgrounds who are in casual employment. As has been observed, over the past
decade or so, migrants from tl1e subcontinent have moved more into selfemployment than any otl1er time in the history of Indian migration to Australia. To tl1ese entrepreneurs, tl1e sweeteners of lower tax and immediate tax deductibility for asset purchases costing less than $20,000 until 30June, 2017 will be welcomed.
ln tllis budget, there is a provision of $814.2 million for SBS over three years from 2016-17, good to have this support for the nmlticultura.l broadcaster. Bm interesting co note time it is actually tbe new CEO of tl1e ABCMichelle Guthrie who wants more diversity on ABC and we have not heard a word from tl1e multicultural broadcaster SBS on this topic.
All in aU, a budget which the current government feels that it can prosecute weU during tl1e inevitable election campaign. But, in a few days' ti.o1e, when rbe election is called, both Labor and the Coalition will fire their initial salvos from their traditional positions of strength. Labor will talk about the lack of funding for schools and hospitals in this budget, the Coalition will talk about how their economic management is the best way forward for Australia. The budget will be praised and pilloried - depending which side of politics you are on.
Ever since I was young, I was told stories by my grandparents and school teachers about those who sacrificed their lives for India's independence. Many years ago my family migrated toAustralia, and ever since then the Anzac Day parade has constantly reminded me of the similar Republic Day parades I used to watch as a child.
This year, along with six other leaders and the school band, I got to represent my school in theAnzac Day parade. Walking in between the tram tracks with the heavy weight of the school banner up against my arms; the smell of diesel from the vintage car infront of us, carrying veterans too frail to walk; watching the soldiers marching, proudly holding their military units banner; hearing the school band play 'Waltzing Matilda' for the cheering crowd; these images brought this memorable experience to life.
Throughout the march, many gleaming medalscaught my eye, making me realise just how real and strong theAnzac spirit is and will continue to be.
While the parade had everyone cheering, clapping, giggling and having a good time, the Shrine of Remembrance showed us the real reason why Anzac Day is important. The mood turnedsolemn as we marched up the stairs and read the words 'Let all men know this is holy ground, we will remember then' that are etched on to the stairs leading up to the eternal flame. Looking around I could see these words reminded everyone of the soldiers who went to Gallipoli and sacrificed their lives for their country.
Although the entire march was a great experience, the highlight of the day was just after we f nished paying our respects to the fallen heroes, when a soldier from WW2 came up to me and gave anAnzac penny minted in 1934 as a token of his gratitude. I felt humbled, clasped the penny in my hand and stood there for a moment in silence to pay my homage to the fallen.
Lest we forget.

A poem by RaniJhala
This Mother's Day, no presents will be packed, No restaurant booked, no surprises planned. This Mother's Day, an empty grip Will, hold my aching heart within.
This Mother's Day your child will cry, And curse the day you said goodbye. And when the pain has all poured out I'llclose my eyes and look about.
I'll look for you within the kitchen walls, Then search around your divine shrine. I'll feel your strength in the bangles you wore; As I reach to hold your hand again.
I'll hear you through the letters you left, And memorise each word you wrote. I'llspeak of you, to those you loved, And dream of you in your new realm.
So maybe a present, willstill be packed, Just to hear you say "No, don't do that." And I'll send my all, to you this day, My special mum who lives in love! Happy Mother's Day Mummy.

> 1729 is called the Hardy-Ramanujan number, after a famous encounter between the British mathematician GH Hardy and Ramanujan in 1918. Hardy had ridden in taxi cab number1729 and remarked that the number seemedto berathera dull one. 'No,' Ramanujan replied. 'It is thesmallest numberexpressible asthe sum oftwocubes in two differentways: 1729 = 13 + 123 = 93 + 103.' Ittriggered an interest in numbersthatare the smallest numberthat can be expressed as thesum oftwo cubes in n distinct ways, and are now called taxicab numbersn
>A remarkable result ofthe legendarysix-year-long Hardy-Ramanujan collaboration was a formula for the numberp(n) ofpartitions of a number n. A partition of a positive integern isjust an expression for n as a sum ofpositive integers, regardless of order. Thus p(4) = 5 because 4 can be written as 1+1+1+1, 1+1+2, 2+2, 1+3, or 4. Leonard Eulerinitiallyfound a formula forthegeneratiqgfunction of p(n) (that is, forthe infinite series whose nthterm is p(n)xn). While this allows oneto calculate p(n) recursively, it doesn't lead to an explicitformula. Hardy and Ramanujan came up with such a formula (though they only proved itworks asymptotically, GermanAmerican mathematician Hans Rademacher proved itgivesthe exactvalue ofp(n) in 1937, validating Ramanujan's earliersupposition
> Ramanujan identified several efficient and rapidly converging infinite seriesfor the calculation ofthe value of TT, someofwhich could compute 8 additional decimal plaees ofTT with each term in the series. Theseseries (and variations on them) have become the basis forthe fastest algorithms used by modern computersto compute TT to ever increasing levels of accuracy (currentlyto about 5 trillion decimal places).

He may have played a young Ramanujan, India's greatest mathematician, butfor26-year-old actor Dev Patel, mathematics as a subjectin the school curriculum was always a scourge.
"I was terrible atmathematics," Dev revealed recently. "It was worse because my father is an accountant."
Ramanujan notwithstanding, a// Indians are notgoodatmaths, so stop stereotyping, readers!
To get Dev to understand his character better, young director Matt Brown, itis believed, worked very closely with contemporary mathematicians Ken Ono and Manjul Bhargava {who won both the FieldsAward and the Padmashree) in cracking the formula to get it all down pat.
"I was involved because they wanted to gettheir mathematics right," Japanese-American Ono said in astatement. "Before I knew it, I was on the sets in England, helping out with so many differentthings. It was, of course, difficultto explain howto be a mathematicianto someone who is not a mathematician."
He added, "'My favourite scene in the film is where Dev Patel completes a complex mathematical formula on the blackboard and one can see that he has done it in real time. My challenge was to selecta formula that he could remember easily andcomplete it in the sequence."
Executive producerSwati Bhise said, "They worked for a long time, exactly on the formulas and how they were written, h0w partitions were done. Much attention was given to each aspect of the film to bringthe realistic quality forward."

'The Man'Who KnewInfinityin cinemas from5May
National award winning director Gnana Rajasekar's eponymous Tamil film Ramanujan (2014) first introduced movie goers to the world of mathematical genius. Biopics of trailblazing individuals are becoming quitethe normthese days, with cinematic representations clearly grabbing eyeballs where biographies have sadly languished.
Mathematics nevertheless is no easytask to portray on celluloid. Featuring debutantAbhinay Vaddi (grandson of goldencouple Gemini Ganesan and Savithri) and Barna (JanakiAmmal), Nizhalgal Ravi as father andSuhasini Maniratnam as domineering but doting mother, the Tamil film isalmostarchetypal Indian - how we repeatedly fail to recognise a genius, heaping ridicule atsigns 0f brilliance andoften equating itto madness.
The personaltragedy of Srinivasa Ramanujan makes for an inspiring story butthe film has been criticised for failing to resonate deep within. Nevertheless, it won kudos for being able to recreate the epoch with brilliance.
Besides a greatsoundtrack thatblends Carnatic and western melodies, beautifully laid outframes and deep insight into customs and beliefs of the time help convey the poignant message that Ramanujan tragically was a victim of the prejudices and attitudes prevalentatthe time.
Apart from the classical numbers that have already struck a chord with listeners (including VaniJayaram's comeback piece, the 'Zero to One' composition in the film is unique - a musical metaphor of Ramanujan's mind, which was always preoccupied with complex layers of calculation, according to musicdirector.

STARRING: Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, Sudheer Babu Posani, Paras Arora, Sunil Grover
DIRECTOR:Sabbir Khan
Adapted from two films, the Indonesian movie The Raid: Redemption (2001) and the 2004Telugu release Varsham, Baaghi is an action-packed, run-of-the mill love story of a rebel and his lady love.
Afraid of his son Ronney (Tiger Shroff) going wayward or becoming a rebel, Colonel SamarjitSingh packs him off to his friend's gurukul in Kerala, to "make
a man out of him".
En route to meet his father's friend, I Ronney meets Siya (Shraddha Kapoor)
I on the train. Love blossoms, but not before laying the seeds of the various obstacles which include Siya's opportunist father, E.P. Khurana, and Raghav, his guru's son, an equally formidable fighter, who also happens to be on the same train and falls in love with Siya too.Tiger Shroff performs 1 competently, displaying his impressive, I martial arts skill effectively. Though charismatic and sincere, he fails to leave an impact as Ronney. There is somethingendearingand earthy about Shraddha Kapoor as Siya.
You are a soul ofa permanent unchangeable nature, and if you would live as a soul, you would neverbe affected or changedby outer changes.

She is equally effortless in the dancing and action sequences. Sunil Grover as her father, Mr Khurana gets into the skin of his character with ease. With a tinge of comic and subtle sliminess, he reminds one of Shakti Kapoor, in his hey days.
Sudheer Babu as Raghav is imposing. He is equally agile as Tiger and leaves an impact as the antagonist. With interesting camera angles capturing the moments of action and drama, cinematographer Binod Pradhan's camera work is striking. Also, his interior shots with aesthetic lighting and wide angled exterior shots in natural lighting are picture perfect.
Julius Packiam's background score, with its adrenaline packed beats, is effectively used to create the frenzied tempo of the action. The songs, "Toh naachu mein aaj, cham, cham'', an extempore dance in the rain, seems forced and the song "Agar tu hota to, na rote hum" doubles up as a background score. In totality, the songs are well picturised, but add nothing to the progression of the tale.
While the film is technically dazzling, the director has not paid attention to the narrative. The story written by Sanjeev Dutta is hackneyed and predictable, laden with loopholes andabandoned sub-plots. You expect this to be the story of a rebel, but unfortunately the rebel in Ronney does not surface, except in a weak exposition where his father writes a note to his friend stating that Ronney is a lovable rebel.
The script, punctuated with comic and actionsequences, is formulaically crafted. This makes the narration superficial and shallow in nature, making it difficult for the audience to relate to the characters.
The first two acts are moderately paced, it is the climax that is overstretched with a never-ending chase and action sequence, making the viewing a bit tedious.
Overall, with a string of oft seen scenes and action sequences, Baaghi offers no novelty, in terms of visual and narrative stance, making it neither exciting nor appealing.

National award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee thinks the era ofescapist cinema is coming to a close.
"The audience has changed over the years," he said recently. "Now they are showing interest in real things. They wantconvincing and reliable. The audience has matured."
Manoj is currently promoting his film Traffic, which belongs to the "convincing and reliable" category, like much of Manoj's work including Satya, Shootand Zubeidaa.
Another thing he is glad of is that item numbers look like they are finally on their way out.
"Thank god item numbers are out," he said. "They were somewhere ruining the whole storytelling format. Whateverchangesthe industry isundergoing, it's good whether it's for mainstream or parallel cinema."
Trafficis an emotional thriller based on a road tripfrom Mumbai to Pune, and is based on a true story. The story centres on the transportation from Mumbaito Pune of a harvested heartfor a hearttransplant case, chasing a strictdeadline. Duringthe mission, the characters face numerous difficulties and obstacles, traffic being one ofthe major ones.
Manoj Bajpayee plays a traffic constable who decides to spearhead the situation amidstthe heavy traffic in Mumbai.
The film is a remake ofa hit Malayalam film. Completed by Rajesh Pillaijust before he died, the film is setto release on 6 May.
Actor Randeep Hooda, who will soon be seen in the Omung Kumar directorial Sarbjit, chained himself with heavy handcuffs weighing2.5kg in each hand, to get into character.
Sarbjit is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of charges of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentencedto death.
"Randeep Hooda has shown immense dedication," Kumar said in a statement. "He is well known for his method acting but I believe Randeep has given his entire heart and soul for this film. The level of dedication needs immense acknowledgmentand it will be visible to others too once the movie releases."
As Randeep's character was trapped in a Pakistanjail for years and given heartless treatment, the actor made a dummy prison cell in an area ofjust 6x4 feet where he spent his entire day, fully chained, and with a minimum supply of food intake.
In spite of much irritation and even pain, the actor didn't give up in his self-made training and went beyond his limits to get a realistic performance on screen.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen inthe role of Dalbir Kaur, Sarbjit's sister who fought tirelessly for his release, while Richa Chadha plays Sarabjit's wife.
It all started with some cryptic tweets.
Example,Alia Bhatt wrote, "The 'dulhania' is on the move! Is this true though? Dharma movies, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan."
And so everybody thought it was a sequel for HumptySharma Ki Dulhania, the 2014 film starring rumoured couple Varun and Alia.
But it was Karan Johar that made the big announcement. On Twitter, of course.
"The second in our love franchise staring Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt. Directed by Shashank Khaitan," he wrote.
He also posted a little teaser from the film, showing Varun andAlia in a desi avatar in a rural backdrop set in a fair.
Shashank Khaitan, who directed the first movie, is expectedto don the director's hat yet again for the film whose title is rumoured to be Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya.
Produced by Hirao Yash Johar, Karan Johar and presented by Fox Star Studios, the Dharma Productions film is setto release on 10 March, 2017.
Hrithik Roshan will be seen shaking a leg withthe Brooke Bond Red Label 6-Pack Band, touted as India's first transgender band, in their latest track Ae Raju.
The song salutes the unabated spirit of the transgender community, and the actor says he was compelledto be part of the song as it addresses a "meaningful" message in a "fun and entertaining way".
The actor, who has himself successfully battled stammering and more, shared, •we cannotjust reject them just because they are different from us".
Brooke Bond Red Label tea in association with Y-Films, the youth films' wing of Yash Raj Films, is back with another song by the band.
In the song the members of the band are inspiredto fight discrimination and break all social barriers.
The song and its chorus are a lighter take on the trademark Ae Raju, a term used by the Hijra community. In the video, Hrithik motivates the members of the bandto unleash their inner superheroes. The video went live on Y-Films' YouTube channel recently.
"I've been following the Brooke Bond Red Label 6-pack Band and when I heard they are creating a meaningful message in a fun, entertaining way, I hadto be a part of it. Shooting with them was an amazing experience," Hrithik said.
The Brooke Bond Red Label 6-Pack Band aims to encourage everyone to be more accepting, overcome social prejudices and make the worlda more welcoming place. It has been welcomed with open arms by music lovers, and has had hit numbers in collaborations with Sonu Nigam, Zanai Bhosle andArjun Kapoor
The winds of change are slowly but surely blowing in.
Pakistani drama actorsAdnan Siddiqui and Sajal Ali are going to debut in Bollywood alongside veteran Indian actress Sridevi in the movie Mom.

Hey, we thoughtAamir Khan was the soft new-age sensitive kinds but apparently he likes his hot rods. He showed off his latest toy recently, a brand new Bajaj V, a motorcycle which contains metal from India's de-commissioned aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.
Aamir was inspired to buy the V15 when he learnt that the new launch from Bajaj contains metal from the much-loved navy ship, the first aircraft carrier built in India. It played a role in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
When Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, got to know thatAamir, a personal friend, had placed an order for a V15, he decided to make it one with unique customisation.
The new V made forAamir has a customized embossing of the initial A on the fuel tank and one-off graphic design of "Chote Lal" affectionately inscribed on the rear seat cowl.
Bajaj personally delivered the vehicle to Aamir's home.
The V was launched in February this year. It is a 150cc commuter bike differentiated by its solid form and stand tall proportions.
The Dhoom 3 star was delighted to receive his new bike. He said in a statement: "The Vis a special bike and I wouldn't compare it with anything else. It has a piece of history ingrained into it. For me, it's a proud moment to own a piece of metal from INS Vikrant which was the military pride of India for decades."
See, we knew he was a true patriot!
In 2015, actorAkshay Kumar juggled effortlessly between the intenseAirlift and the frivolous Singh Is Bliing. This year again he joyously juxtaposes the real-life saga Rustom with the crazily out of the world Houseful/ 3.
So he likes living in two different planets How does he manage this?

But of course, just like all the topbracket stars in Bollywood, Akshay thinks he is invincible
Well, not exactly.
He went on, "I am not going to pretend it's easy. But I also can't deny that I enjoy doing both serious and comic roles. And let me tell you, comedy is also a serious business for me. I am happy to juggle the two contrasting genres. I embrace both happily. See, I adore my Housefull franchise, as muchas I adore the serious scripts that I choose."
Sonakshi Sinha's off to England. She has confirmed being a part of director Vipul Amrutlal Shah's Namastey England along withAkshay Kumar. The film will reportedly roll inAugust.
Meanwhile,Anupam Kher's Kaanu looks set to be different, and worth waiting for. He plays a Bengali coach in the football-based drama, with film maker and director Prabhat Bhattacharya playing the title role of the footballer. The story of the film traces the journey of Kaanu and his beloved Ghat Shila Football Club.
