AbonywomancalledAmbika,alsoin hermid-20s,sawherbabyborndead-a stillbirthinmedicalparlance-asamidwife andhermother-in-lawattendedtoher.

WhenBhavnaNi.ranjankumar,adoctor withMysore'sPublicHealthResearch Instituteof India(PHRII),anNGO,asked Ambikawhyshedidn'tgotothehospital forthedelivery,shereplied:"Ithappened veryquickly."

IBoilthepotato,mashand keepaside. In aflatpan,heat1tbsp oil and saute theonions,garlic,gingerandgreen chilliesalongwiththeturmericpowder tilltheonionsarelightlybrowned.

Next, addthecubed bell pepperstothe wokandstirfryfor30seconds; remove and keepaside.
