Technology Programs AT INDIANA STATE

Technology combines innovation and creativity that fuels progress in our society through a wide range of majors and minors. From aviation to engineering technology . . . from construction to textiles . . . from automation to interior architecture design . . . there is a major or minor that is sure to spark your interest.

Undergraduate Majors Adult Career Education (ACE) This degree-completion program is designed to address the needs of working adults who require flexibility and are interested in obtaining or advancing to supervisory or leadership positions. Core coursework in ACE focuses on skills that are in high demand by today’s employers—skills such as creative problem solving, critical thinking, team building, communication technology, and work-life integration.

Architectural Engineering Technology (ARET)

ARET combines an understanding of the philosophy of building design with an applied technical knowledge of construction systems and materials acquired in a technically oriented studio structure. A variety of graphic tools and techniques are explored in the studios including freehand drawing, computer-aided drafting, physical models, virtual computer models, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and computer imaging. Students are exposed to a wide range of software programs, graphic communication techniques, and problemsolving skills.

Aviation Management (AVM)

This degree program prepares students for professional administrative positions in the aviation industry. Career tracks range from such occupations as airport manager to director of operations for a major airline.

Flight training is not required, however, to gain a better understanding of the aviation industry, students are encouraged to obtain at least a private pilot certificate with instrument rating.

Civil Engineering Technology (CVET)

The CVET degree prepares graduates with the technical and managerial skills necessary to enter careers in the planning, design, construction, operation or maintenance of the built environment and global infrastructure.

Graduates are able to analyze and design systems, specify project methods and materials, perform cost estimates and analyses, and manage technical activities in support of civil projects.

Automation and Control Engineering Technology (ACET)

Computer Engineering Technology (CET)

Industrial automation is the use of control systems, predominately computer based, to control industrial machinery and processes.

Automation has and will continue to play an increasingly important role in the global economy as well as our daily experiences.

The automation and control engineering technology program provides the knowledge and management skills needed to pursue a rewarding career in the field of automation.

CET provides the education, training, and managerial skills needed for professional careers in areas such as computerized manufacturing, instrumentation and controls, technical sales, and field service. The program is also excellent preparation for graduate studies.

Automotive Engineering Technology (AET)

One of only 16 automotive bachelor degree programs in the United States, the AET program is concerned with all areas of the automotive and wheeled transportation industries. It integrates classroom and laboratory experiences to give students experience with the design, theory of operation, and testing of modern automotive components used in road and off-road vehicles and the skills to manage these and

Construction Management (CNST) Laboratory and work experience supplement classroom lectures to provide practical and useful skills in the construction profession.

With its comprehensive, managementoriented focus, the program helps students understand the impact of construction on the environment and society and prepares students to be leaders in this exciting field.

Graduates are competent in planning, scheduling, estimating, project management and many other skills necessary for a construction professional.

Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) An EET degree provides the knowledge, skills, and management experience needed for technical and professional careers in instrumentation and control, technical sales and field services, electronics manufacturing, and electrical power operations. Use of modern design techniques, computer modeling, state-of-the-art laboratory experiences, and small learner oriented classes help each student reach their fullest potential.

Engineering Technology (ET)

The engineering technology (ET) program produces graduates whose critical thinking skills and knowledge of various engineering technologies make them highly valued assets to a wide variety of industries. In addition to taking an engineering technology program core, which includes a variety of laboratory experiences, students will select one engineering technology concentration from the following choices: automotive, electronics, computer, packaging, or mechanical.

Human Resource Development (HRD)

The HRD program combines a core curriculum with directed electives that support the student’s work background—or allow students to develop specialized areas of expertise. Content is based on the disciplines of education, business, psychology, and related behavioral sciences. Required studies in the major are drawn from the competency studies from the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Information Technology (IT)

The IT major provides students with a real world, hands-on program that bridges the gap between computer scientists and general users. It is multidisciplinary involving hardware, software and IT management focused courses. Students also complete a 15-hour specialized track developed in conjunction with a faculty advisor.

Interior Architecture Design (IAD) Dedicated to preparing future leaders and innovators in the global design community, the IAD program offers a dynamic and progressive curriculum supported by top-notch facilities, frequent field trips, an active professional advisory board, and a faculty of practicing designers and scholars.

IAD emphasizes rigorous professional preparation, integrating the complex aesthetic, technical, and theoretical aspects of commercial, institutional, residential, and product design.

Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET) MFET prepares graduates with technical and leadership skills necessary for manufacturing competitiveness and to enter careers in manufacturing process and systems design, operations, quality, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and sustainability.

Graduates from the program enjoy careers as manufacturing engineers, project engineers, quality specialists, and supervisors/managers in a variety of manufacturing industries.

Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET)

MET focuses on engineering design (mechanical design), analysis, management, and manufacturing. Students develop hands-on experience and technical problemsolving skills with state-of-the-art CAD/CAE technologies. While the students focus on the design of mechanical products and systems, they also study management aspects of engineering design, in preparation to manage people, resources, and systems related to design and manufacturing .

Packaging Engineering Technology (PET) One of a handful of fully accredited packaging programs in the country, PET prepares students to design product packaging that ensures product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and display conditions. Students learn to test, analyze, and select materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness. Options for specialization include manufacturing as well as graphic/commercial art and marketing.

Professional Aviation Flight Technology (PAFT)

This degree program combines four years of flight training with technical support coursework to prepare students for careers as professional pilots. Graduates are awarded a bachelor degree and an FAA flight instructor

certification with an instrument rating and a multi-engine land class rating. The program prepares pilots for work with the federal government, military services, commuter airlines, and flight simulator companies.

Safety Management (SFTY)

Safety management provides the classroom knowledge and experience needed to be a safety specialist who is qualified to design, develop, and implement safety programs in business, industry, and government. An optional minor is offered in environmental health sciences for students who want experience in both safety and environmental health.

Technology and Engineering Education (TEE)

The TEE program prepares students to teach technology, innovation, design, and engineering at the middle school and/ or high school level in both public and private schools. The content is derived extensively from technology and the impact that technology makes on society and the environment, with a focus on preengineering, communications, construction, manufacturing, biotechnology, and transportation.

Technology Management (TM) This program is designed primarily as a degree completion transfer program to articulate with accredited AS and AAS programs in industrial and engineering technology related fields. Graduates in the program are competent in supervision, quality control, production planning, workplace law, project management and a variety of other skills that prepare you for technology management.

Textiles, Apparel, and Merchandising (TAM) The TAM program prepares students for careers in textiles, apparel, and merchandising. Graduates possess a keen interest in merchandise and an understanding of the world of fashion— plus the business and organizational skills needed for successful careers. The major focuses on cultural aspects of clothing, functions of retailing, global marketing, history of costume, the principles of design, textiles, along with trends in retailing.

Unmanned Systems (UMS) Unmanned Systems is a new leading edge technology which will soon be a significant segment of the aviation industry. Unmanned Systems represent new and growing opportunities in the civilian, government, and military job markets. Indiana State University is one of the first universities to offer unmanned systems education and training.
