Ed and Lorna Brett

Lorna ’85 and Ed Brett, MBA ’89, boldly supported three initiatives during the campaign through a $200,000 gift: the Cunningham Memorial Library, Sycamore Men’s Basketball, and students studying math or computer science through the creation of the Lorraine E Brett Scholarship The scholarship honors Ed’s late mother Lorraine Brett, a 1974 graduate of Indiana State and long-time media specialist with the Vigo County School Corporation The Bretts have devoted their careers to serving the Terre Haute community, Ed with the City of Terre Haute and Lorna with the Hamilton Center Their generosity embodies the spirit of giving and supporting student success

“Indiana State University continues to be an important part of our lives. Our mother/mother-in-law, Lorraine Brett, was always a joyful helper and giver. We are following in her footsteps.” –Ed and Lorna Brett

Donor Highlight

Bob and Penny Schafer

Former Vice President Bob Schafer ’61, GR ’63 and his wife Penny Schafer ’67, GR ’70, ’91 pledged $1 million to enhance the Sycamore experience for studentathletes and students in the Scott College of Business and the College of Health and Human Services before Bob’s passing in 2024 Their gift included $600,000 in support of Sycamore Men’s and Women’s Basketball, enhancing the experience of student-athletes for years to come; $200,000 in programmatic support for the Risk Management Program in the Scott College of Business; and $200,000 to strengthen programs within the School of Nursing in the College of Health and Human Services

In recognition of their shared dedication to Indiana State, the Schafers were honored as March On! Award recipients in 2023

“ Supporting the Be So BOLD campaign has been my way of honoring a University that meant so much to Bob and me. Through this gift, I hope to enhance the Sycamore experience and help students pursue success with confidence.” –Penny Schafer

Donor Highlight

Union Health

Union Health strengthened their longstanding relationship with Indiana State University during the Be So BOLD campaign through a multi-year innovative partnership that names Union Health as an athletic sponsor This agreement extends far beyond visibility It ensures that student-athletes have access to the comprehensive care they need to succeed, including health screenings, evaluations, and medical services

By investing in the well-being of Sycamores, Union Health demonstrates its dedication to strengthening the student experience and advances student preparation, wellness, and achievement

“As two of the largest employers in the Wabash Valley, Union Health and Indiana State University are proud cornerstones of our community. Both are equivocally passionate about serving others, with aligned missions of transforming lives and bettering the health and wellness of our communities. This partnership is, without a doubt, an overall win for Union Health, Indiana State University, communities within the Wabash Valley, and those far beyond.”

“ The Be So BOLD campaign has helped transform Indiana State men’s basketball. From the facility upgrades to the game day experience, you can feel the impact from our donors, community, and fans every time we step out onto the court. We’re all very appreciative of everyone’s support!”
–Derek Vorst
