A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT “Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 Summer of 2026. Time to take a breath, take a break, be still, and enjoy summertime. In the school world, the summer schedule is an oxymoron; after 9–10 months of rigorous scheduling and the grind and joy of 180 school days, we take a little time each summer to NOT schedule much other than a break from it all. This makes sense, and we call this “work-life balance” here on the Hill. We have educators who pour themselves into our students each day and every year, producing another class of graduates (265 this year). Educators are understandably ready for a slower pace. The summer recharge is a real thing, and we fully embrace that. So, as many of us enjoy the summer respite, I would like to offer a loud and sincere “Bravo” to our Cathedral Educators. A special shout-out goes to the tireless and indomitable Lisa Ford, who has been teaching math and life to Cathedral students for 45 years! Thank you, Lisa! And to Educators who are leaving us or joining us, or staying with us, may the strength and wisdom of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
new Parent Engagement Coordinator and expanded Counseling services, with professional development to demonstrate measurable results as we work wisely to fulfill our mission and vision. Thank you as always for your support and prayers, and we ask Blessed Basil Moreau and St. Br. André to pray for us. Go Irish!
Rob Bridges, PhD President
While many of us take a break from our toil on the Hill, our Facilities Team, along with many others, continues their work. In the midst of Summer School and Camp Cathedral, we begin in earnest to execute on the physical aspects of the tremendous blessings of our Matthew 22 Strategic Plan (see page 5), with construction on our locker rooms, Health and Wellness Center, and Loretto Hall in full gear. Summer construction is a reality in most schools, with the opportunity to advance on plans without disrupting the school year. Thank you to Chief Operating Officer Rolly Landeros and his team for their oversight of the exciting projects that are now unfolding on our beloved campus. Onward and upward! With a goal of increasing student and parent engagement to drive college and career success, our dynamic Matthew 22 Plan offers excitement and hope to our current and new families. The world continues to change, and we also continue to set the pace as the leader in Catholic high school education in Indiana and the country. We have a

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Faith, Excellence, and Community: The Legacy of 2026 At the close of each school year at Cathedral High School, I find myself reflecting not only on what our students accomplished, but on who they have become. Awards, recognitions, and championships certainly matter. We celebrate them because they represent dedication, sacrifice, and God-given talent brought to life. But they also point to something deeper: the formation of young men and women who are prepared to live lives of purpose, faith, and service. The Class of 2026 leaves much for us to celebrate as they focused on their chosen Holy Cross Core Value of Excellence. Every senior once again earned acceptance to college, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects years of perseverance and the support of dedicated parents, teachers, counselors, and coaches. Every senior also completed his or her St. André Service Project, continuing Cathedral's long tradition of serving others and recognizing the dignity of every person. These two milestones — preparing for the future while serving in the present — speak beautifully to what a Cathedral education is meant to be. This class excelled in every aspect of our school. In academics, students distinguished themselves as National Merit Finalists and National Merit Commended students, Lilly and Evans Scholars, and as an Indiana Academic All-Star. Twenty-two students completed the AP Capstone program, demonstrating the critical thinking and curiosity that will serve them well for years to come. In athletics, members of this senior class contributed to three state championship achievements, and 39 scholarathletes committed to continue competing in college. In the arts, Cathedral students earned top honors in music, show choir, visual arts, and speech, representing our school with creativity and excellence. Yet, as meaningful as those accomplishments are, I keep returning to what matters most. This year, seven seniors entered into full communion with the Catholic Church, joining five other Cathedral students who made the same journey through Father Geoff Mooney's OCIA class. Those moments remind us why our mission — to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse group of students from across Central Indiana — is so important. Academic success, athletic achievement, and artistic recognition are

all blessings, but our highest calling is to help young people encounter Jesus Christ and discover the person God created them to be. I am grateful for the Class of 2026. They brought leadership, joy, and a strong sense of community to the Hill. They challenged themselves and inspired others. They cared for one another and helped strengthen the spirit of our Irish Family. As they move forward, they carry more than diplomas and awards. They carry the lessons of faith, family, service, and lifelong learning that have shaped Cathedral students for generations. I pray that by God's grace, they will continue to make our world better for all of us. May God's peace be with you,
Mark Matthews Principal

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CATHEDRAL WOMEN! The History of Academy Women and Cathedral
Cathedral High School proudly celebrates 50 Years of Cathedral Women — a milestone honoring the strength, faith, and achievements of generations of women who have shaped our community. Founded in 1918 as an all-boys Catholic high school in the Holy Cross tradition, Cathedral has long been rich in history and tradition. The first classes were held on the second floor of Cathedral Grade School at 13th and Pennsylvania, before the school moved to 14th and Meridian Streets in downtown Indianapolis. In 1976, the Cathedral trustees moved the school to the former site of Ladywood-St. Agnes on 56th Street. It was then that Cathedral opened its doors to young women for the first time, officially making the school co-ed. Now, five decades later, we celebrate the courage and brilliance of those first young women — and the thousands who have followed — who have enriched Cathedral through their excellence in academics, arts, athletics, service, and faith. The celebration began in January 2026 and will end in June 2027. With faith as our guide and the spirit of Holy Cross leading the way, we move confidently into the next 50 years. With her leading, we shall not tire!
Cathedral was blessed to have a legend join us in February as we celebrated Black History Month and 50 Years of Cathedral Women. Ms. Dorothy Davis SAA '45 Pipes (pictured second from the right) covered a variety of topics, including the importance of talking to others to really get to know them and break down barriers. Thank you to Director of Lifelong Connections Jean Smith '97 (pictured right) for facilitating this meaningful conversation, and thank you to Amariya Forbes '27 (pictured left) and Lola Scarsi '26 (pictured second from the left) for their excellent work on the panel.

Special thanks to Rosie Thomas SAA '63, Rita Doyle SAA '66, Janet Schnorr SAA '62, and Mitzi Battista SAA '62 Witchger for decorating the beautiful new cabinets in Loretto Hall. Titled “Women of Worth, The Academies' Journey to Cathedral,” this historical display showcases Indianapolis' all-girl academies: St. Mary, St. John, St. Agnes, Our Lady of Grace, Ladywood School, and Ladywood-St. Agnes. The dedication ceremony for this meaningful tribute will take place in the fall of 2026; more details about the event will be announced as the date approaches.
Thanks to the generosity of Victoria Schneider '88 Temple, every woman at Cathedral was given a 1976 cap to kick off the 50 Years of Cathedral Women Celebration.

Sr. Mary Ann Stewart, SP Hon.'26, received an honorary diploma at this year's commencement. We felt it was only fitting considering “Sister History,” as she is affectionately called, has been educating hearts and minds for 46 of the 50 years women have been enrolled at Cathedral.
Jean Glenn '77 Harris, a member of the first graduating class to include women, devoted 29 years of heartfelt service to Cathedral High School. What a blessing to celebrate her retirement as we mark 50 Years of Cathedral Women. Her family roots run deep on the Hill, and we are so grateful for all the families she assisted with care and compassion while working in our business office.

HOLY CROSS UPDATES spending intentional time in service is one of the best ways to use those to their fullest extent.” A special thank you to educator Elliot HersbergerGray for organizing this wonderful service learning opportunity. Also, thank you to Campus Minister Dave Neeson for his assistance. Central to Cathedral's Holy Cross mission is educating hearts and minds. Education lies not just in academic excellence, but also in the competence to see and the courage to act to make the world a better place.
Spring Break of Service: Cathedral's Montana Mission We thank educators Kathryn McAuliffe and Rachel Ludington for leading a group of five students on a service trip during spring break to the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana. The group celebrated Mass at Little Flower parish and met with some of the Lasallian Christian Brothers. For most of their visit, they served at De La Salle Blackfeet School. Our group attended a basketball game to cheer on many of the fourth and fifth-grade girls, took care of various tasks around the school, such as emptying trash, setting up for parent-teacher conferences, cleaning up the playground, and helping pass out food to students and families as they started their spring/Easter break. The Cathedral group also attended Stations of the Cross with the students and staff at De La Salle. The students who embarked on this journey were Aylin Flores-Lopez '26, Andrea Aluaiza '26, Ingrid CardozaManzano '26, Emma Arce '27, and Sharon Ramos '27. “I did not have a lot of quiet time with God,” Aluaiza said, “However, my relationship with God through this trip was to be with friends and teachers and the people of De La Salle Blackfeet. Night reflection and dinner were, to me, feeling God's love for others.” “Service trips are important because they provide students the opportunity to give so much back,” 8McAuliffe SPRING/SUMMER 2026 has CATHEDRAL said. “Everyone gifts to HIGHLIGHTS give, and

HOLY CROSS UPDATES McCracken Named Indiana Academic All-Star, Honors Irene Wilson as Most Influential Educator Congratulations to Nolan McCracken '26 on being named an Indiana Academic All-Star! The Indiana Academic All-Stars program is a highly competitive award that honors seniors who excel not only in the classroom but also in leadership and community service. McCracken is a Summa Cum Laude graduate, a National Merit Finalist, a Board of Trustees Award recipient, and was one of the featured speakers at last fall's National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis. McCracken also joined the Catholic Church during the recent Easter Vigil.
St. André Project Celebrates STEM Inaugural Middle School Science Fair We are so proud of Nolan McCracken '26 for inspiring a love of STEM by leading the inaugural North Deanery Science Discovery Fair this year. This event, which brought together middle school students from Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Matthew, and St. Pius X Catholic Schools, was part of McCracken's St. André Senior Capstone Service Project. Cathedral's St. André Project is a service-learning capstone initiative designed to engage students in meaningful community service during their junior and senior years. Named after St. André Bessette, the project encourages students to combine their personal passions with societal needs, fostering both personal growth and community impact. McCracken, who plans to major in physics at University of California-Berkeley, identified a unique opportunity to reinvigorate science engagement across the North Deanery. We extend a special thank you to the science teachers at Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Matthew, and St. Pius X for collaborating with McCracken and preparing their students so well for the science fair. The projects were very impressive, and all of the students are to be congratulated for their hard work and creativity. We also thank Cathedral educators Mrs. Nicole Schena 10 SPRING/SUMMER 2026 CATHEDRAL HIGHLIGHTS and Dr. Aarti Brooks for serving as judges.
For his most influential educator, he chose Ms. Irene Wilson. When speaking about Ms. Wilson, McCracken said, “Through encouragement in AP Seminar and every moment of triumph and struggle in AP Research, Ms. Wilson has always been there, supporting me as she does with everyone she interacts with. She has encouraged me to be curious, especially when it is hard to imagine the future, not just the future of a research project, but also the future of my life. As one of the leaders on the St. Meinrad retreat, I was able to connect with Ms. Wilson in an incredibly meaningful way. By experiencing her faith, I saw how living my life more like hers would not only make me a better person but also a better Catholic, someone able to use their understanding not just for themselves, but for others, all in the pursuit of Christ.” McCracken's beautiful reflection is a testament to the fact that high-achieving students can answer the call to greatness with incredible humility and poise, thanks to mentors like Ms. Wilson, who are caring, talented, and zealous educators.
RUNNING THE DISTANCE Elliot Hersberger-Gray's Marathon Journey Elliot Hersberger-Gray is known as a dedicated religion educator, but this spring, he made headlines for another achievement: completing the Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 19 seconds — a personal best. "I started running in college just for fun, but it didn't take long for me to fall in love with it," Hersberger-Gray said. "That passion naturally evolved into racing, and I quickly realized running benefited not only my physical health, but my mental health as well. Some of my clearest thinking happens on runs, whether I'm contemplating decisions, working through problems, practicing gratitude, or, most importantly, praying." Hersberger-Gray completed his first marathon in 2011: the Monumental Marathon in Indianapolis. Since then, he's run additional marathons, including the Indianapolis Marathon and the Aspen Valley and Leadville Marathons in Colorado. After a COVID hiatus, he set a new goal: qualifying for the Boston Marathon. And he achieved that goal, thanks to his finish in the Marquette Marathon in Michigan. "I dedicate a significant amount of time to marathon training, typically following a consistent 16–20-week training block leading up to race day. Training involves running 6 days a week, including at least one workout and one long run. It may sound cliché, but consistency really is the key. Just as important as the running itself, though, is recovery. Strength training, yoga, and plenty
of sleep are all essential parts of the regimen as well." Hersberger-Gray believes endurance running offers lessons that go beyond the sport itself. "I genuinely believe endurance running is a metaphor for life. It teaches the value of consistency, how to navigate both triumphs and setbacks, and the importance of patience. Running continually reminds me of these qualities and gives me perspective when it comes to setting goals, working toward them, and ultimately achieving them," he reflected. As much as he loves running, Hersberger-Gray is equally passionate about helping coach cross country and teaching. "Teaching is incredibly rewarding," Hersberger-Gray said, "What I enjoy most is building relationships with students, watching them grow, and seeing them deepen and strengthen their faith and spirituality. At the same time, teaching can be challenging, and during those difficult moments, I'm reminded of the importance of perseverance and patience. Running, especially marathon training, has reinforced for me that I am capable of doing difficult things. It's taught me that consistency, perseverance, and patience are essential in navigating challenges of any kind." With every mile he runs and every lesson he teaches, Hersberger-Gray proves that the true finish line is not just a destination. It's the determination to keep striving, learning, and inspiring others along the way. SPRING/SUMMER 2026 CATHEDRAL HIGHLIGHTS

Furthermore, the positive atmosphere stood out to me and made me feel inspired.” – Ben Tenorio '30, Creekside Middle School

CATHEDRAL CONNECTIONS National Spotlights in Sports and Media
Cam Jordan '21 (pictured center) and Jeff Utzinger '22 (pictured third from right) pose with their IU teammates and the National Championship trophy.
Who could have imagined such a turnaround? The college football team with the most losses in college football history goes undefeated and wins the National Championship! Perhaps even Boilermakers had to admire what the Indiana University football team achieved during the 2025-26 season, and several familiar faces from the Cathedral family were involved in this historic run. Cam Jordan '21 and Jeff Utzinger '22 played key roles on the IU team, and both were standouts on Cathedral's 2020 football state championship squad. Another Cathedral connection followed the team throughout the season: Nick Rodecap '22, a member of the IU student media team, had a front-row seat to every unforgettable moment. The Cathedral ties don't stop there. Cathedral educator and football coach Matt Panzer is related to IU quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner, and firstround draft pick Fernando Mendoza. When it comes to Cathedral connections to the Hoosiers, it doesn't get much better than that. After the football season ended, Cathedral fans turned their attention to another alum who was shining in the national sports spotlight. Jake Davis '23, now a member of the Fighting Illini basketball team, returned to Indianapolis to compete in the Final Four. No stranger to championships, Jake helped Cathedral win the Class 4A basketball state title in 2022. It's often said you can't go anywhere without running into someone from Cathedral High School. The same can be said when it comes to pursuing excellence. Whatever the sport or arena, chances are you'll find a Cathedral connection who is answering the call to greatness.

NEW HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER HONORS LEGACIES The "Iron Mike" McGinley '60 Weight Room and the Molly Davis '92 Hahn and Shannon O'Malia '92 Hall Varsity Girls Locker Room Blessing In May, friends, family, and supporters filled the RV Welch Activity Center lobby to celebrate the Blessing of two new facilities: the "Iron Mike" McGinley '60 Weight Room and the Molly Davis '92 Hahn and Shannon O'Malia '92 Hall Varsity Girls Locker Room. McGinley, a dedicated coach, teacher, and administrator, built the school's first weight room in the basement of Loretto Hall, using an iron bar and paint cans filled with cement for weights. The new facility is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027, continuing his legacy of resourcefulness and commitment to student-athletes. Molly Davis '92 Hahn and Shannon O'Malia '92 Hall were cousins who took great pride in their Cathedral roots. Their legacy of school spirit will to inspire every student who uses the new varsity girls locker room, which is set to open in the summer of 2026. We extend heartfelt thanks to all the donors who made these projects possible. Special appreciation goes to Meyer Najem Construction, Schmidt Associates, and Long Electric for their dedication to enhancing the student experience at Cathedral High School.
What a blessing to have four generations of Cathedral Irish Football Coaches at the celebration. Go Irish!

CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONS! By: John Oehser
Cathedral High School boys basketball in 2025-26 put together one of its best seasons ever, fulfilling a year-long goal and winning the third state title in the history of one of Indiana's elite programs. “They're special,” Jason Delaney said of this year's Irish. “Just because of the people they are. They're champions all the way around. It's just fun when guys are like that.” The Irish in Delaney's 10th season as head coach followed a strong season with a stronger postseason, finishing with a 71–61 victory over New Haven in the Class 3A state title game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis — the Irish's second state title in five seasons. “This season flew by because it was so enjoyable,” Delaney said. “This group of kids is one of my favorites of all time. They were coachable and they loved each other and played extremely hard. They were never out of it.” Julien Smith '26 registered a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds as the Irish outscored New Haven, 13–4, in the final 3:47 of the state title game. The Irish won the
Class 4A state title in 2022 and the Class 3A state title in 1998. “New Haven is an extremely good program, good team,” Delaney said. “They play extremely hard and gave us everything we could handle. We were able to overcome it in the fourth quarter.” Key to the team this year was strong leadership from a senior class, which included Smith, forward Keaton Aldridge '26and R'mani Wells '26. “Every one of them led in their own way, and it was beautiful the way they led,” Delaney said. “This was the most connected team we've had here in 10 years — the bond off the court,” Delaney said. “We always got something out of guys off the bench. That made us dangerous too, because it was different every game. “It was all grade levels. You had freshmen stepping up and making big plays. You had juniors stepping up and making big plays. It was just a total team effort, and they didn't want to let each other down.” SPRING/SUMMER 2026 CATHEDRAL HIGHLIGHTS

SPORTS WRAPS Girls Basketball
Cathedral High School girls basketball finished 20–7, the most victories in head coach Lisa Finn's tenure, with Finn moving past the 100-victory mark at the school. They swept through three games to win the Class 3A Section 26 title before losing 52–50 in the regional playoff. “Hands down the most fun I've had as a coach here,” Finn said. “We got everything out of them that we could have gotten, basketball-wise. And then, on top of that, they all really liked each other, which made it really enjoyable.” The Irish beat Herron 65–3 in Round 1 of the sectional, Purdue Englewood 55–43 in the semifinal, and Attucks 46–38 in the final. The Irish won 15 of 17 games entering the postseason. “It went so fast,” Finn said. “I just wish we had more time. I couldn't even find words in that locker room afterwards. That's the hardest part as a coach. It's going to get better with time. But there's still a part of it that feels like a punch in the gut, especially when you knew you were capable of more.”
guys have approached that. They have continued to compete, and at the same time, have been ready to embrace opportunities. That really stood out for me and to our coaching staff this year.”
Baseball
Cathedral High School baseball turned in a solid, winning season in 2026, which made for another memorable season with the Irish remaining one of Central Indiana's top high school baseball programs. “We competed pretty consistently throughout the year,” Ed Freije '99 said. Irish baseball in Freije's 10th season as coach again faced one of the state's toughest schedules and again parlayed a fundamentally sound approach into postseason and tournament success. The Irish not only won the City Tournament in 2026, but they followed that with a Class 3A sectional title and a regional championship. “We said it to our guys and communicated it — that a sign of a good program is having good players top to bottom and guys competing day in and day out for opportunities,” Freije said. “Sometimes we have good players that aren't in the lineup consistently.” “That's not always easy, but I was proud of how our
Bowling
During this 50 Years of Cathedral Women celebration, a female Cathedral bowler established herself as one of the state's top bowlers — and one of the top bowlers in Cathedral's history. Grace Zuerner '27 finished runnerup at the Indiana High School Bowling State Finals. She bowled a 756 over the four-game series to bring home second place and the highest finish in Cathedral history. “She's a phenom,” Irish bowling coach Mark Noe said of Zuerner. Cathedral High School's bowling team in 2025-26 became co-ed, resulting in a deep postseason run as a team and individually. “We had a really good season for the team,” Noe said. The Irish as a co-ed team finished 10th at the Terre Haute semi-state in the Indiana High School Bowling boys competition. Depth issues necessitated moving

to a co-ed team this season, with two girls — Zuerner and Sophia Moreno '29 — competing against multiple boys and helping the program to a second consecutive strong season. The Irish boys finished third in the state in 2024–25. The co-ed team advanced to semi-state in 2025-26 with a fourth-place finish at the regional round, with Zuerner and Sam Jones '28 advancing to semi-state individually. Zuerner won the semi-state singles title with a 640. She also won the sectional title and finished third at the regional competition.
The Irish, in Andy Gruber's 26th season as head coach, finished the 2026 season 13–6, again advancing to the state final four. The Irish, No. 3 in the Indiana Lax Numbers rankings much of the season, finished the season with a 15–11 loss to Culver Academy in a Class 2A state semifinal on May 27. “They were driven by their desire to go down as one of the better teams that Cathedral ever had,” Gruber said. “They had that in them. They had the talent. They had the pieces. They had a good group of underclassmen who did great work for them. It was just a matter of getting out there and taking care of it.” The '26 Irish, who registered key regular-season victories over a strong Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier team and perennial power Hamilton Southeastern, were driven by a strong offense with excellent faceoffs and strong goaltending. “We had a new defense,” Gruber said. “It really was a team designed to win faceoffs, control the ball offensively, and take pressure off the defense as much as we possibly can. When we did that, when we played that type of game, we were nearly unbeatable.”
Boys Golf
The Irish were talented, focused, and motivated. That made for an enjoyable 2026 Cathedral High School boys golf season, with the program continuing to grow and excel while continuing as one of central Indiana's perennially strong high school boys golf programs. “It was a fun ride,” head coach Jim Grossi said.
Girls Lacrosse
The Irish shot 295 as a team and went on to win the City Tournament for a second consecutive season. John Leaman '26 shot 67 to win the individual City title, with Ben Kauffman '26 shooting 73, Andrew Dunlap '26 shooting 77 and Luke Leaman '28 shooting 78. The team also won the third straight Sectional title this year.
Coach Mary Ann White '11 said she is pleased with this season and excited about the future of the program. The '26 team finished 17–7 and ranked No. 6 in Indiana according to MaxPreps. They beat Center Grove, 19–13, in the first round of the Indiana Girls Lacrosse Association State Tournament.

White said. “The seniors, especially, they worked hard for everything they did and got.” Their season ended with an 18–5 loss to Zionsville in the state quarterfinals that White called “a really tough final game.” “We had an awesome season with great girls,” White said.
Softball
The Irish, after winning the 2025 Class 3A Indiana High School Athletic Association state title for the first state title in program history, were strong throughout the 2026 season — and beat Danville 7–5 on June 2 to win a sixth regional title in 11 seasons and advance to semi-state. That was the Irish's 12th consecutive victory.
Hockey
The Central Indiana Knights in Ron Pozzebon's sixth season as head coach turned in a balanced schedule of close games. While the season ended earlier than hoped, it was defined by camaraderie and progress. “I'm happy with the players; I'm happy with the player development,” Pozzebon said. The Knights, a hockey team made up of players from Cathedral and other Indianapolis area high schools, went 20–20–1 in '25–26. The Indiana State High School Hockey Association structures its postseason based on regular-season records, with the Knights competing in '25–26 in Class 2A postseason — the third highest of four classifications.
The Irish lost in the first round of semi-state, 3–2, to Reitz Memorial. “There were a lot of youth in the infield since we lost most of our infielders from the previous season,” coach Tony Matthews said. “We had a lot of big shoes to fill there, so we went into the season with the thoughts that games in April were just going to be practices for us — that we had to keep on practicing to get ready for May.” The Irish in '26, Matthews' 13th season as head coach, also won their third consecutive sectional title, their 23rd overall.
Cathedral players on the Knights' A team included Daniel Michael '26, Noah Hiott '28, and Quinn Ridgeway '28.
Rugby
Congratulations to Royal Irish Rugby on winning the 2026 state title! The Royal Irish Rugby Club includes student athletes from several local high schools, including Cathedral. 36

Boys Swimming
Cathedral High School boys swimming not only featured a new head coach this season, but it was a growing program that got the most from its ability, turning in multiple memorable performances. “I say they're small but mighty,” said Mandy Long '98, who was in her first season as head coach in 2025-26 after spending two seasons as an assistant with the program.
Tyler Neucks '26 finished in the Top 10 in two events at the Section 14 meet at Lawrence Central. “He did great,” Long said. “He got his best time. I was like, 'I can't ask for any more from him than he gave me. He literally gave it all that he could.'” All Cathedral swimmers swam their best time at the sectional meet. The Irish boys finished eighth in the Section 14 meet. “They did a great job,” Long said. “There were only 11 of them total, and that's pretty tough. It was a wide range of abilities, too. We had everything from some boys where we were kind of teaching them how to dive when they came in to some boys that had been doing it for many years.”
Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team was made up of a lot of hard workers who excelled on the court and in the classroom. The Irish finished with a 12–11 record and advanced to the regional round of the state tournament. The Irish lost to North Central, 3–2, in the regional semifinal at North Central. They beat Heritage Christian 4–1 to win the Lawrence North Section 27 title after beating Lawrence North 4–1 in the semifinal and Indianapolis Arsenal Technical 5–0 in the first round. “We talk a lot about the process,” coach Jeff Giles said. “We talk about the journey. We realize it's going to be a quick season. We talk about not necessarily always having our minds on that. We know the ultimate destination where we want to be but trust the process to the point where you appreciate every day and the journey and let's learn from it.” The Irish in '26 also won the Homestead Invitational and finished second in the City Tournament. Also notable, the team has a cumulative 4.35 grade point average.
Girls Swimming
A sophomore made a big splash during this 50 Years of Cathedral Women celebration! Olive Cunningham '28 won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.96 and the 100 back in 58.75, with both victories qualifying for the state meet. She's the first Irish girls swimmer to qualify for state in 13 seasons. “We have two more years with her, which is amazing,” coach Mandy Long '98 said. “She was a great swimmer last year as a freshman. She trained throughout the offseason. She set a goal, and she achieved that goal. Really, the possibilities are endless with Olive.” The Irish won the City title, with Cunningham setting a City record. The team also competed in the Munster Relays, Mooresville Invitational, and won the Warren Central Invitational. “These girls, they act like a family,” Long said. “All across the board, they love each other very, very hard. They are also hard on each other sometimes, but I feel like that pushes all of them to be a better swimmer, a better teammate, a better friend — just a better human in general.”
Boys Track and Field
The Irish had a strong season that included a freshman making history. Cameron Berry '29 won the City title in the 100m with a time of 10.62, a state record for freshmen. “He's the fastest freshman in state history, which is a pretty cool accomplishment,” said coach John O'Hara '02. “He was awesome. He came into the program and just molded into what everyone's been doing already.”

Berry was part of the 4x100 relay team that finished sixth at state. Other members of the relay team were Jimmy Pappas '26, Adam Ayers '26, and Brady Windle '27. “It was never a chore,” O'Hara said of working with the '26 Irish boys track team. “It was always, 'All right, here's the workout, here's what we're going to do, and let's put in some work. Let's have some fun. Let's tell some jokes. Let's talk to each other and have a good time.' “When the kids lean into the work and realize how hard it is going to be and trust the coaching staff, the training program, and each other, it usually goes pretty well.”
Names and faces changed while winning continued. “I'm incredibly proud of this team,” Tyler McClure '08 said. The Irish remained one of the state's top high school volleyball programs, finishing as state runner-up for a third consecutive season after a memorable run through the postseason. “We had multiple times this year where we could have folded and said, 'Well, maybe next year we'll get it,'” McClure said. “Every time we had a challenge or a rough spot, they never changed their mentality in practice.” One of the team's leaders, outside hitter Quinn Braun '26, suffered an injury during warm-ups before the championship game and couldn't compete. That didn't stop him from receiving the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award. “I am very proud of Quinn,” said McClure. “He's grown into a tremendous leader and a great person!”
Girls Track and Field
The team chose educator JaMicah Cooper for the IHSAA Champion Educator Award for his incredible support of the team throughout the season.
The Irish had a solid postseason, with three events qualifying for the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Meet. Cecelia Melloh '27 and Piper Swart '26 qualified for the State Meet in the pole vault, with the 4x400-meter relay team — Lyla Cochrane '28, Mary Leppert '27, Brooklyn Bolin '26, Ava Grace Winters '26 — also qualifying. “It was an amazing season,” coach John O'Hara '02 said. “You show up to practice every day, and a lot of times showing up to practice is not fun. It's hard work, but they have smiles on their faces. The girls show up to the boys' meets, the boys show up to the girls' meets. They do a great job of working well together, and I couldn't be prouder of them.”
Boys Wrestling
The 2025-26 Irish finished ninth at the 2026 Indiana High School Athletic Association State Finals, with seven wrestlers qualifying for the state finals. The Irish as a team won sectional, regional, and semi-state titles in '26. “They just hung in there the whole year,” coach Sean McGinley '88 said. “It was a grind, and what they did at the end was about everything they could have. You couldn't ask for anything more.” After leading the program for 25 years, McGinley is stepping down as head coach.
Boys Volleyball
This was another standout season for Cathedral High School boys volleyball, which continued its historic tradition in 2026 while remaining an elite program.
“It's been an honor to lead the wrestling program,” McGinley said. “I want to thank every athlete, parent, and coach who was part of the program.” McGinley led the team to 25 City, 19 Sectional, 17 Regional, 9 Semi-State, 1 State Runner-Up, and 4 State
Championships. He also coached 14 Individual State Champions. The new head coach of the wrestling team is another Cathedral alum, Breyden Bailey '17. With a career record of 182–5, he has the most wins in Cathedral history and was a member of the 2014 State Championship Team.
Girls Wrestling
Carver Wins Gold at Pan American Championships
Congratulations to Aiden Carver '29 on winning Gold at the 2026 U17 Pan American Wrestling Championships 55KG! The Indiana Wrestling Association said Aiden put together an impressive run against top competition across the Americas. Way to go, Aiden!
The first official IHSAA-sanctioned Girls Wrestling Championship was held in 2025. One year later — perfectly coinciding with our 50 Years of Cathedral Women celebration — our girls wrestling team had no problem continuing Cathedral's tradition of excellence. Four of our wrestlers advanced to Regionals. We are so proud of Sydnei Beene '27, Arynn Garrard '26, Aanas Gladney '28, and Kendall Moe '27. Garrard, Gladney, and Moe went on to compete at state, a true testament to the skill and strength of our athletes. Garrard finished seventh in her bracket at state, and Moe brought home the first girls wrestling state title in Cathedral's history! Moe was also named IndyStar's Female Wrestler of the Year. Earlier this year, Moe also joined the Catholic Church. Since transferring to Cathedral for her senior year, Moe stated, “A year ago, it was like I was broken with nothing to build me back up, and now I'm being put back together.”
