EXPLORE THE Y WHY THE Y The Y is an association of people who have committed to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all people, regardless of their ability to pay. We are a non-profit, charitable organization established to provide programs and services to youth, adults and families in order to strengthen the community. The YMCA is funded locally. Funds raised through contributions, endowments and membership fees are used to provide services in Will, Grundy and part of Kendall Counties.

Updating Your Contact Information We ask our members to notify us of any changes in their contact Information, including email, phone or residential address. To update your contact information, please call (815) SAY-YMCA, use the “contact us” link on our website or stop by the Membership Desk during your next visit.

Credits and Refunds Program fees are not refundable. Classes missed due to weather, holidays, illness, acts of God, or choice of participant cannot be made up, credited or refunded. If the YMCA cancels a class due to low enrollment, participants will be issued a credit for a future program. Members who withdraw from a program for medical reasons and present a physician’s order will receive a credit for the remaining classes. When a class needs to be cancelled by the Y, the class will be rescheduled.

All credits are good for one year from the date issued. Members who withdraw from a class for non-medical reasons may be subject to a processing fee.

Insurance The YMCA assumes no responsibility for personal injuries or loss/damage of personal property while individuals are using YMCA facilities. It is recommended that participants make provisions to provide this coverage through their family insurance program. Anyone engaging in new physical activity or who may have health-related issues should consult a physician prior to starting fitness routines.

Child Supervision Children under the age of ten must be supervised by an adult or family member at least sixteen years of age at all times when using YMCA facilities outside of a structured YMCA program.

The Kids Corner Supervised Playroom is available during designated hours for Facility Members, ages six months to ten years old.

Child Abuse Prevention Policy The Greater Joliet Area YMCA is mandated by state law to report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities for investigation.

Holidays The YMCA prorates classes on days when the buildings are closed for the following holidays: Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving,

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The Y closes at 1 p.m. on Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Cell Phone Use Policy The use of cameras, video recorders, cell phones and/or any photographic devices is NOT ALLOWED in YMCA locker rooms, changing areas or restrooms. We also ask members to refrain from making or answering phone calls while using the Wellness Center.

We also ask members to please refrain from taking photos during classes and demonstrate good judgement and assess the situation/ environment before taking photos at the YMCA. Please remember that it is important to obtain parental consent before taking photos/ videos of minors. This is for the safety and privacy of all our members and participants.

No Smoking Policy In the interest of the health and safety of our staff and members, it is the policy of the Greater Joliet Area YMCA to forbid all forms of tobacco in any YMCA facilities or on the grounds of any YMCA property. YMCA grounds include: facilities, parking lots, sidewalks, fields, parks, and paths.

Tobacco products prohibited include, but are not limited to, lit or unlit cigarettes (clove, bidis, kreteks), e-cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipes, hookah products; any smokeless, dissolvable, or inhaled tobacco products, including but not limited to dip, chew, snuff or snus; and all nicotine delivery devices that are not FDA approved as cessation products.

Facility Privileges The Greater Joliet Area YMCA reserves the right to terminate facility privileges at any time for inappropriate behavior or conduct detrimental to its members or the organization.

Building & Room Schedules The Y schedules rooms in the building to allow for classes and open times. You can find room schedules in the facility or posted online by visiting www.jolietymca.org. Members can also access, view and set reminders for our free fitness classes and community events by signing-up to receiving weekly emails through on our online fitness schedule. To subscribe, visit www.jolietymca.org.

Wellness Center The Wellness Center is available for members ages 16 and over. We ask that members be courteous and put away equipment when finished using it and refrain from talking on their cell phones while in the Wellness Center. Teens (ages 13-15), who have completed the Wellness Center Certification Class, may utilize the cardio and strength machines. For safety reasons, only members ages 16 and over may use the free weights.

How to Register for Programs • Online by visiting www.jolietymca.org • In person by visiting your local branch • By phone by calling (815) SAY-YMCA (current members) The Greater Joliet Area YMCA accepts cash, check, MasterCard, Visa or Discover.

In most cases, phone registration is accepted for current members when paying by a credit card or electronic funds transfer (EFT). Outstanding balances must be paid before a member will be allowed to register for future programs.

Facility Members must maintain their memberships throughout the duration of a program in order to pay Facility Member pricing. System credits and promotional codes may be used online.

All classes have a maximum and minimum number of participants. When possible, classes will be added to accommodate wait lists and to expand those offerings that are in high demand. Classes below the minimum will be combined when possible, and as a last alternative, will be cancelled.

KIDS CORNER SUPERVISED PLAYROOM Healthy parents are happy parents. Let your child have fun at the Y while you take time for yourself to get fit. There is no need to call ahead. Parents must remain in the facility while their children are in the playroom.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU Kids’ Night Out Attention all parents! If you’re in need of a little time to yourselves, sign the kids up for Kids’ Night Out (KNO)!

During KNO, kids, ages 4-12, are invited to come to the Y for a night of fun. Activities include a movie and games. Pre-registration is required 48 hours in advance and all participants must be potty trained.

Volunteer Opportunities at the YMCA The generosity of others is at the core of the Y’s existence. It is only through the support of our hundreds of thousands of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to give back to the communities we serve.

We welcome and appreciate youth in grades 9-12 and adults 18 years or older who would like to volunteer their time and expertise. A background check must be completed before volunteers are allowed to participate in any Y program or activity.

Summer Sports Camps at the Y! The Y will be offering four-day sports camps this summer at a variety of locations throughout the Morris community.

Summer Specialty Camps at the Y! The Morris Community YMCA is once again teaming up with the Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) to offer a number of specialty camps for tweens and teens this summer.

Taught by GAVC instructors, these exciting camps will be offered on the GAVC campus, which is located adjacent to Morris Community High School.

DHS funds are accepted and financial assistance is also available.

CAMP KICK-OFF PARTY Wednesday • May 20 • 6-7 p.m.

We like to kick off the summer camp season by inviting campers and their parents to meet our counselors, pick up their camp T-shirt and camp bag, and learn about what we have planned for the summer.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Nurturing the potential of every child and teen.

WHERE KIDS GO TO GROW Designed for children, ages 3-5, preschool programs at the Y are so much fun! Through a variety of activities that are both structured and open play, our dedicated staff members teach, model and reinforce the Y’s Christian character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. A parent/guardian must remain in the building for all preschool programs during class times.

CPR FRIENDS & FAMILY Wednesday, April 15 or Tuesday, April 21 6 to 8:30 p.m. $5 The Morris Community YMCA and Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers are teaming up this spring to offer Friends and Family CPR classes in Grundy County. Open to area residents, ages 12 and older, these trainings will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognize and provide lifesaving care in a medical emergency until first responders arrive.

Before and After School Youth Recreation Program The Morris Community YMCA’s Kid Zone before and after school program serves students in grades K-5 at Morris Grade School and Saratoga Elementary School. Children do arts and crafts, play games, develop friendships and learn lessons that will last a lifetime. The Y’s Kid Zone program encourages positive behavior through character development activities and emphasizes the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

HALF-DAY OUT OF SCHOOL Open to all students at Morris Grade School and Saratoga Elementary School

The Morris Community YMCA will offer half-day programming for students at both Morris Grade School and Saratoga Elementary School. Children, grades K-8, may sign into the Y upon dismissal from school at 11:30 a.m. and be signed out as late as 6 p.m.

Depending on enrollment numbers, Saratoga students may be transported to Morris Grade School. All participants should dress for the weather and bring a sack lunch. Advanced registration is required and space is limited.

Fees are non-refundable. The registration deadline is 48 hours prior to the day off school.

The remaining nine payments are paid via automatic withdrawal from a checking account. Debit and credit cards also accepted.

Participants may start attending four business days after the day registration is completed.

TEEN AND YOUNG ADULT (TAYA) TAYA provides area high school students with the guidance and support they need to discover their identities, embrace their passions, and become their best selves.

SWIMMING FURTHER FASTER Joliet YMCA JETS Swim Team One of the area’s most historic youth swimming clubs, the Joliet Y JETS Swim Team is a year-round developmental competitive swimming program that offers instruction and training for swimmers, ages five and up. Swimmers of all ages will learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and setting and achieving goals while developing their competitive swimming skills. The JETS Swim Team supports the YMCA’s mission of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities, and our professional team of coaches strive to not only build strong swimmers but caring, honest, respectful and responsible children and young adults.

Anyone between the ages of 5 and 18 can join the JETS Swim Team. To make the beginning level of the team, swimmers must be able to swim one length (25 yards) of the pool comfortably and confidently without a flotation device. All JETS Swim Team participants must have a YMCA Facility Membership.

A member of both YMCA and USA Swimming, the JETS participate in a variety of meets throughout the year, although competition is not mandatory.

The team practices up to six days a week at four locations throughout Will and Grundy Counties.

Swimmers are encouraged to attend practices and work hard, but there are not mandatory practice attendance requirements.

How can I learn more about the JETS?

JETS SPRING SWIM CLINIC This is great opportunity to learn more about the JETS and to meet our team and coaching staff.

Throughout the week, coaches will be evaluating swimmers for team placement. A YMCA membership is not required to participate in the clinic.

Bodyweight Training with TRX In this 45-minute class, you will pair TRX with different body weight exercises in high-volume (reps), lowresistance (weight) workouts. Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program With the support of a trained Healthy Heart Ambassador, participants in this four-month program will learn how to lower their blood pressure by developing healthier eating habits, and gain a better understanding of blood pressure management.

Program participants will be required to: • Measure and record their blood pressure at home at least two times per month • Attend two personalized consultations per month with a Healthy Heart Ambassador • Attend monthly nutrition education seminars To participate in the program, participants must: • Be diagnosed with high blood pressure • Not have experienced a recent cardiac event • Not have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias • Not be at risk for lymphedema FREE & Ages 18 and Up open to the January 6-May 2 community Blood pressure monitor included for those in need.

FitStart is a program designed for the new exerciser or those who have trouble sticking to a workout program.

Throughout the 12-week program, participants will meet with a Fit Coach up to four times. During these meetings, your workouts will be evaluated and, as your fitness level increases, so will your workout intensity. The first session will consist of cardio.

Your second and third sessions will introduce you to strength training equipment and the fourth session will review and make sure you are comfortable with your new fitness plan. FitStart is not personal training, but your coach will help you determine and meet your goals Ages 16 and Up FitStart is free to Facility Members.

Appointments can be made online or at the Membership Desk.

Fitness Consultations Facility Members are encouraged to meet with a member of our fitness staff for a free one-hour fitness consultation. During this session, our staff will help you to identify your health and wellness goals, provide you with a fitness evaluation, an orientation in our Wellness Center, and provide you with an overview of our group exercise and personal training programs.

This free consultation will help you take the first step on your journey to a healthy lifestyle.

GALA

It was truly a night to remember as more than 330 area residents helped the Greater Joliet Area YMCA raise nearly $115,000 at its BE THE GOOD Gala on Saturday, October 12, at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.

Guests enjoyed an elegant evening that included dinner, live entertainment and opportunities to bid on an assortment of silent and live auction items.

Funds raised from the event will benefit the Y’s financial assistance program, helping to ensure that no one is turned away from the organization due to the inability to pay.

Since its inception, the Y’s signature fundraising event has raised more than $1 million to provide financial assistance for membership and programs that benefit families within our community.

Thank you to our generous sponsors who helped make this event possible and to the generous donors who were attendance that night.
