The Y is an association of people who have committed to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all people, regardless of their ability to pay. We are a non-profit, charitable organization established to provide programs and services to youth, adults and families in order to strengthen the community. The YMCA is funded locally. Funds raised through contributions, endowments and membership fees are used to provide services in Will, Grundy and part of Kendall Counties.

Outstanding balances must be paid before a member will be allowed to register for future programs. Facility Members must maintain their memberships throughout the duration of a program in order to pay Facility Member pricing. System credits and promotional codes may be used online.

All classes have a maximum and minimum number of participants. When possible, classes will be added to accommodate wait lists and to expand those offerings that are in high demand. Classes below the minimum will be combined when possible, and as a last alternative, will be cancelled.

KIDS CORNER PLAYROOM (Ages 3-7 years) MON-THUR 8-11:30 a.m. • 4:30-8 p.m.

Let your children relax in our story area while you take time for yourself to get fit.

They’ll have a blast playing with other children their age and you can rest assured they are in good hands with our staff. Schedules and hours can and do change based on our members’ needs. Schedules are posted online and are available at the Y.

Security

Behavior

• Kids Corner is open to kids ages 3 to 7. Children may stay in the Kids Corner supervised play area for up to 2 hours each day.

• For safety and security reasons, members must present their membership card when they are checking a child into Kids Corner.

Replacement cards may be purchased at the Membership Desk.

• Children are not allowed in Kids Corner unless they have been checked in by a parent or guardian.

• For the safety and security of all children in Kids Corner, parents will only be allowed past the Check-In Desk to change a diaper.

• Parents/guardians must remain on YMCA property while their children are in the Kids Corner Playroom.

• In the event that a child is displaying unsafe or inappropriate behavior, the Kids Corner staff will use a “time-out” for children two years of age and older, and activity redirection for children younger than two.

• In the event a child hits or bites another child while in Kids Corner, parents will be paged immediately over the intercom system. If this behavior is found to be a continuous problem, that child may be removed from Kids Corner for a period of time.

• If a child begins to cry and cannot be comforted within 10 minutes while they are in Kids Corner, parents will be paged over the intercom system.

• The YMCA staff reserve the right to terminate or suspend Kids Corner privileges for any child who exhibits unsafe or inappropriate behavior.

Clothing And Diapers • YMCA staff members are not permitted to change diapers. If a child needs his/her diaper changed, parents will be paged over the intercom system. Parents must use their own diapers and supplies.

• Children must be fully covered on top and bottom at all times while in the Kids Corner play area. All walking children must wear shoes in Kids Corner; bare feet are not allowed.

Toys And Electronic Devices • We ask that children do not bring toys or electronic devices from home to Kids Corner.

Sick Children • For the safety and well-being of all members and staff, we ask that members do not bring sick children to the Kids Corner. If a child is not feeling well, becomes sick while in Kids Corner, or is showing signs or symptoms of being sick, parents will be paged over the intercom system.

The YMCA staff reserve the right to determine whether a child is sufficiently sick to be excluded or removed from the Kids Corner.

Food And Drink • Children may bring a labeled sippy cup, with water only, to drink while in Kids Corner.

• YMCA staff members are not permitted to feed children while they are in Kids Corner.

SUPERVISED ACTIVITY CENTER (Ages 7-17 years) MON-FRI 8:30 a.m.-Noon (through 8/30) MON-THUR 4:30-8 p.m.

SAT-SUN 8-11:30 a.m. Some exclusions apply, see front desk for schedule.

Activity Center Guidelines (The Activity Center is designed for children ages 7 and older) Activity Center Usage

Behavior

• Seven-year-old children must be signed in and out of the Activity Center by a parent or guardian who remains on YMCA property.

Seven-year-old children will not be allowed to leave the Activity Center unattended.

• Children, ages 8 and up, must sign in with the Activity Center attendant. Children, ages 8 and up, do not need to be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.

• During unsupervised hours, families are welcome to use the Activity Center. During this time, children, age 17 and under, will need to be supervised by an adult over the age of 18.

• Teens must abide by the YMCA Character Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility when visiting the Activity Center.

• All members are responsible for keeping track of their personal items while using the Activity Center. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

• The YMCA reserves the right to suspend Activity Center privileges and limit usage of equipment to members who do not abide by YMCA policies and guidelines.

Computers And Equipment • Teens must sign in when using YMCA computers in the Activity Center. There is a 30 minute limit on all computers when others are waiting.

• Food and drinks are not allowed by the computers or other gaming equipment in the Activity Center.

• All members must sign in to use equipment such as tablets, games and computers in the Activity Center.

• Websites or games depicting violence or inappropriate content will not be allowed to be viewed or played on YMCA computers and tablets.

• Only YMCA staff members are allowed to change games on the gaming consoles or download new games onto YMCA tablets.

LET’S STAY HEALTHY

TOGETHER Because the health and safety of our YMCA community remains our top priority, we are doing everything possible to ensure our facilities meet the highest standards for hygiene and safety. We have also made modifications to our policies and programs to facilitate new safety and social distancing guidelines.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT To maintain a healthy environment, all members and staff will be required to adhere to the following health and safety guidelines when visiting our YMCA facilities.

If you have any concerns or questions during your visit, please speak to a member of our staff team.

Required Health Screening Upon entering the YMCA, both members and staff will be required to answer 5 health screening questions: 1. Have you or anyone in your household traveled to another country in the last 14 days?

2. Have you been in contact with someone under investigation for, or with a confirmed case of, COVID-19 in the last 14 days?

3. Have you or a family member in your household been instructed to self-quarantine?

4. In the last 3 days, have you experienced a fever of 100.4 or higher?

5. Are you currently experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19?

For the safety and well-being of our YMCA community, anyone who answers YES to any of the above questions will not be permitted to visit the YMCA on that day.

Masks Are Required Both members and staff will be required to practice social distancing and wear a mask or face covering when visiting the Y. Members should plan to have a mask or face covering with them at all times, and will be expected to wear it at the Y when not exercising or using the pool.

Frequent Handwashing and Sanitizing Members and staff will be asked to help prevent the spread of germs by washing their hands upon entering any YMCA facility. For your convenience, we have installed additional hand sanitizers throughout our YMCA.

Required Equipment Wipedown When using the wellness center, please remember to wipe down equipment before and after use with the EPAapproved disinfectant we have provided.

Staggered Equipment To allow for social distancing, some equipment in our wellness center may be temporarily closed or relocated.

Limiting Class Sizes and Room Capacities To ensure members can safely practice social distancing while visiting the YMCA, we will temporarily be limiting the number of people allowed in YMCA classes, programs, and spaces. In the wellness center, members will notice that red boxes have been installed on the floor around certain pieces of equipment. To ensure social distancing, only one person is permitted in each red box at a time.

We ask for your continued cooperation as we work together to keep our members and staff safe and healthy. We want to keep our doors open for as many members as possible. Doing so means taking safety seriously. If you have any concerns or questions at any time during your visit, please speak to a member of our staff team. WHERE KIDS THRIVE YMCA BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS As the exclusive provider of Plainfield Community School District 202’s onsite before and after school program, the C.W. Avery Family YMCA has the distinct pleasure of working each day with the youth in our community. With the start of the new school year quickly approaching, we continue to monitor updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local, state and federal health officials to ensure our YMCA is prepared to safely welcome students this fall.

EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP • SKILLS FOR LIFE LIFEGUARDING REVIEW COURSE

Ages 15 and Up

This class is for current Red Cross Lifeguards who need to renew their certifications. Proof of current certifications and a pre-requisite swimming test are required before registration. At the end of the course, participants will test for Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid & CPR certifications.

Please note: Participants who fail the pre-test on the first day of class are subject to a 50 percent fee. Refunds are not given for students who do not successfully complete the class. $135/$160 12-5 p.m.

BABYSITTER’S TRAINING

American Red Cross Programs LIFEGUARDING COURSE

with Water Park Option

Ages 15 and Up

Ages 11-15

Participants in this class will learn the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for infant and school-age children in the absence of parents. Emphasis will be placed on safety and safe play, first aid and developing skills in leadership and professionalism. Each participant will also take home their own training manual and materials. Participants should bring a lunch. $75/$140 MON 10/12 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding. Students will learn professional responsibilities, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Lifeguarding.

NEW THIS YEAR: Lifeguarding will be taught as a blended learning course.

The first two class sessions will be held virtually. Participants will attend two, 2-hour Zoom trainings with the instructor, as well as complete 7.5 hours of online course work at their own pace. The final three class sessions will be held in-person, and will start with the swim test. Participants who fail to complete the swim test will be refunded for the remaining in-person class dates. No refunds will be given to participants who miss classes, or who are unable to successfully meet testing requirements at the end of the class.

Pre-requisites: • Must be able to complete a continuous 300-yard swim • Must be able to tread water for two minutes without hands • Must complete a timed swim to retrieve a ten-pound object from under ten feet of water Participants may attempt the swim test for free prior to registering for the class. To schedule a swim test with the Aquatics Director, please call your local branch. Valid email is required to participate. Zoom classroom links will be emailed out 24 hours prior to the first day of class. Attendance at every class is mandatory. $210/$235

Health and Safety Guidelines Because the health and safety of our YMCA community remains our highest priority, all participants in our fall All Star Sports programs will be required to adhere to the following guidelines: · All players and parents/guardians will be required to wear a mask or face covering when arriving and leaving the YMCA. · Upon arrival, all parents/guardians will be asked to answer the Y’s 5 health screening questions on behalf of their child. · Players will be required to wash their hands using hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of play. · Players will not be required to wear masks while actively playing on the field, but will be required to wear them while on the sidelines. · Parents/guardians will be required to practice social distancing while watching their children participate in activities. Only 2 spectators will be allowed per player. · For the health and safety of all participants, equipment will be cleaned before and after use.

STRONG TEAMS STRONG KIDS When kids play sports, they get more than just exercise. Besides being physically healthier, they have higher self-esteem and a healthier body image. Kids who play sports perform better in school, develop better interpersonal skills, and work better in groups.

The Y Youth Sports program maximizes the positive effects of playing sports by emphasizing healthy competition and promoting teamwork. The Y focuses on the life lessons that can be learned from sports, and coaches strive to instill a positive self-image in each player. Most importantly, in the YMCA league, everyone plays and everyone wins!

YOUTH SPORTS LET THE FUN BEGIN The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health.

FitStart is a program designed for the new exerciser or those who have trouble sticking to a workout program. Throughout the 12-week program, participants will meet with a Fit Coach up to four times. During these meetings, your workouts will be evaluated and, as your fitness level increases, so will your workout intensity.

The first session will consist of cardio. Your second and third sessions will introduce you to strength training equipment and the fourth session will review and make sure you are comfortable with your new fitness plan. FitStart is not personal training, but your coach will help you determine and meet your goals.

FitStart is free to Facility Members.

Appointments can be made online or at the Membership Desk.

WATER FITNESS The Y offers fun, low-impact water fitness classes at no extra cost for Facility Members.

Masters Swim Club A non-competitive swim club that meets weekly for workouts. Participants looking to compete can register as a USMS Swimmer and attend area meets with our certified coach Ann Emmrich!

You will learn how: • Healthy eating can improve your condition • To create an exercise program that works for you • To improve communication with your family, friends, and healthcare providers • To develop weekly goals to help manage your condition • To develop problem-solving strategies to help cope with pain, fatigue and frustration • To gain support and encouragement from others living with ongoing health conditions.
