FICTION • ISBN: 979-8317462994 One night of uncontrolled passion is all it takes to upend the life of a privileged Manhattan heir and send him spiraling into a life of betrayal and lies. The book follows Christopher Franklin, better known as “Chris,” a taxi driver in New York. He’s twenty-eight and a father to two girls. He once lived a life of wealth and abundance, but now depends on the car for survival. Chris’s initial fall from privilege isn’t merely financial; it is a total displacement of identity. By trading his trajectory in high society for life behind the wheel of a Brooklyn taxi, Chris embodies the tragic weight of social exile, highlighting how easily an individual’s status can vanish in a single evening. Mary, his wife, is his direct opposite. She is always deeply unhappy, and always treats the family table as her kingdom. Her comfort is often her cigarette. In her younger days at school, she was very good at controlling conversations. She was very strategic and wherever words failed her, she would use her physicality and sexuality. Chris’ best friend Josh saw her as young and innocent. But the reader, who has seen Mary hunger for another world, knows better. They have seen her charm Chris even when fully aware he’s dating someone else. W.H.B. excels at building a pervasive sense of domestic claustrophobia. Chris’s marriage to Mary is portrayed as a prison defined by volatility and isolation. When Chris discovers that Mary and so-called friend Josh have decades-long secrets, manipulating him for his money, the domestic drama snaps into a high-stakes psychological thriller.

This book uses tiny physical actions, the kind that understands that emotion is physical before it is verbal. It also uses loaded silences, the kind that knows what is unsaid is often more powerful than what is said. Additionally, it features weaponized politeness- the kind that knows you cannot prove intent when the words are technically correct.

W.H.B. employs forensic precision, treating his characters with the cold eye of an investigator. While most writers rely on adjectives to show emotion, W.H.B. cuts the fluff and lets the action speak for itself. He presents the evidence without comment, trusting the reader to render the final verdict. W.H.B. understands that most of life doesn’t come with narrations. We read people. We interpret silences. We assemble truths from fragments. It’s precisely this kind of reading that demands and rewards.

W.H.B. examines the darker corners of human nature such as self-deception, jealousy, and social exile without apology, while offering a grounded story of fatherhood and resilience. Technology Meets

Suspense:

The World of

Roselyn Teukolsky

W

hat happens when intelligence, technology, and human vulnerability collide? For author Roselyn Teukolsky, these tensions are the perfect foundation for stories that challenge expectations and explore the complex dilemmas women face in male-dominated worlds. Her latest novel, The Fourth Woman, Book Two in the Madeline Geiger series, is the winner of the 2026 New York City Big Book Award in the Suspense category. Printed Word Reviews says “Teukolsky delivers a suspenseful, high-tech domestic thriller”. In addition, Roselyn’s debut novel, A Reluctant Spy, Book One in the Madeline Geiger series, was the winner of the 2025 New York City Big Book Award and the 2026 Independent Press Award. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Teukolsky emigrated to the United States at 23 and went on to graduate from Cornell University. A former mathematics and computer science teacher, she brings both intellectual curiosity and technical insight to her writing, crafting unconventional thrillers that feel strikingly relevant to the digital age. From the world of espionage in A Reluctant Spy to the dangers of online dating in The Fourth Woman, her fiction explores the fine line between brilliance and vulnerability, where cybercrime, deception, and personal danger can intersect in unexpected ways. Gabby: Roselyn, share how you made the leap from a career teaching math and computer science to an award-winning author. Roselyn: It only took me 16 years! A Reluctant Spy is my sixth novel, which means that The Fourth Woman is my seventh. The other six novels went on the shelf, and they’re still there. Maybe I’ll resurrect them. Who knows?! Gabby: For those folks who are not familiar with your work, Roselyn, give us your best both on A Reluctant Spy and The Fourth Woman.

4

Roselyn: A Reluctant Spy is an unconventional spy thriller. It was motivated by the problems of smart women in male-dominated work environments. That is a theme of mine. I wanted to write a book in which a woman was a brilliant computer scientist who is undermined and under-respected every inch of the way. On the day of her husband’s funeral, Madeline Geiger is invited to spy on the department. She is so angry because nobody believes it’s her work. Everyone believes it’s her husband’s work. What she doesn’t know is that her husband has been surreptitiously stealing her ideas and representing them as his own. Gabby: Your protagonist, Madeline is a brilliant computer scientist and cyberware expert. Is she your alter ego? Roselyn: Yes, but I made her a larger than life version of myself. She is taller, smarter, more courageous, and braver than I am. She does things that I would never do. She jumps out of airplanes. I would never jump out of an airplane! Gabby: Printed Word Reviews said A Reluctant Spy is “pulse pounding”. What was the idea that first got you thinking about a spy thriller?

Roselyn: Well, because my protagonist, Madeline, was three years older, sex starved. She wanted love, she wanted romance, she wanted to find someone, so she went online and used an online dating app. What can go wrong? What if a crazy person responds? What if a stalker responds? What if a mad scientist responds? Gabby: Now that you’ve written two award-winning thriller suspense books, are there essential characteristics of a successful thriller? Roselyn: Page Turner, two words. You need cliffhangers at the end of every chapter. Gabby: It seems like you’re having fun. What’s next for Roselyn and Madeline Geiger? Roselyn: I am writing the third Madeline Geiger book. It’s called Blood Match and it is very exciting. Lots of twists and turns, lots of characters. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but it’ll be comparable to the first two books in a sense, but it’s also funny. Gabby: Can you offer some last words of advice to aspiring authors?

Roselyn: I love spy thrillers. I read them all the time. It’s conventional spy novel set in academia. It has all the trappings, dead drops, meetings in the dead of night. Madeline breaks into people’s offices. She does stuff I would never in a million years do. I’m such an upright citizen. Gabby: Your protagonist, Madeline is an unconventional spy. How does she evolve from Book one to Book two, The Fourth Woman? Roselyn: She’s very nervous. shy, and grief-stricken. Her husband has died. She’s in a wheelchair. She’s a perfect spy because who would even look at a woman in a wheelchair in a male-dominated department? She’s invisible, she’s mousy, and she doesn’t stand up for herself; but she learned she’s really good as a spy, a skill she didn’t know she had.

Roselyn: Follow your dream, be in charge. It’s your book. With two award-winning thrillers behind her and a third Madeline Geiger novel, Blood Match, in the works, Roselyn Teukolsky continues to blend technology, suspense, and sharp observations about women who refuse to be underestimated. For readers who love clever twists, compelling characters, page-turning suspense, and a bit of humor, Teukolsky is an author to watch. You can watch and listen to the full interview at www.theGabTalks.com. To learn more about Roselyn and purchase her books visit roselynteukolsky.com.

Gabby: There are a number of diverse characters in both the books. Roselyn: I like the theme of Madeline being out of place as a woman in a maledominated department. The detective chief who investigates her in A Reluctant Spy is an older African American woman in upstate New York. She empathizes with Madeline; there’s a connection between them. They’re both outsiders. In The Fourth Woman Madeline finds a woman when she goes online looking for love. All accomplished women having to excel beyond the men to gain recognition. Gabby: You’ve written about espionage in A Reluctant Spy and now online dating, ransomware, predators, and suspense in The Fourth Woman. What was behind your decision to tie all of those different worlds together in the same story?

A twist on a presentation of leadership, “Leadership in Verse:” arrives as a necessary, soulful intervention. It is a meditation on the human spirit under the weight of responsibility.

In Maynard’s latest poetry collection, “What’s It Like to Be Old?,” provides a strikingly candid “anatomy of aging.” A reflective, accessible style that feels more like a late-night conversation with a wise, slightly witty friend.

The Undying Diamond Heart

Holiday

by Xuemo

FICTION • B0HL5RJDFC An epic historical saga following Khyungpo Naljor who abandons his wealth and title to embark on a harrowing Himalayan pilgrimage for true spiritual liberation.

GIFT•GUIDE

A gentle, emotionally resonant narrative that serves as an effective duallanguage tool without losing its heartbeat. “Fun Day with Misa / Un Día Divertido con Misa” is highly relatable to young children: the initial feeling of dramatic dread that a day without mom and dad will be "totally boring."

In “The Undying Diamond Heart,” author Xuemo weaves a sweeping historical novel that operates simultaneously as a psychological drama and an epic spiritual quest. Centered on the historical figure Khyungpo Naljor, the narrative explores the existential weight of religious doubt, the sacrifice required to seek spiritual authenticity, and the grueling transformation from inherited authority to earned wisdom.

FUN DAY WITH MISA / UN DÍA DIVERTIDO CON MISA Mireya Saldúa

The novel begins with a profound crisis of legitimacy. Inheriting the leadership of a prominent Bon community after his father’s death, Khyungpo Naljor finds himself unable to defend texts and traditions he no longer trusts. Xuemo paints Khyungpo’s crisis not as mere rebellion, but as an agonizing ethical necessity. By publicly voicing his doubts, Khyungpo sacrifices comfort, high social standing, and community favor to pursue a lineage he can truly anchor his spirit to.

This bilingual English-Spanish tale follows Misa, a worried Aussie pup who expects a boring day while her parents are at work, but instead finds unexpected adventures with her grandma. www.printedwordreviews.com/bookreviews/9781966001010

Xuemo eschews an idealized, serene depiction of spiritual seeking. Khyungpo’s pilgrimage across the Himalayan Mountains is fraught with brutal physical hazards, such as avalanches, wolves, and beatings, alongside psychological trials, hostile rumors, and dark visions. Every step forward demands a tangible toll, reinforcing the core motif of the “Diamond Heart”: a spirit that can only be forged, clarified, and made unshakeable through intense pressure and suffering.

“Super Science Vol. 1.” is a frantic, funny, and visually arresting exploration of a world where the "impossible" has become an everyday nuisance. This graphic novel frames the chaos through the Los Angeles Police Department, where it grounds the high-concept absurdity in the weary, bureaucratic reality of police work.

The emotional core of the novel rests on Khyungpo’s tragic relationship with Sarwadee, a former living goddess in Kathmandu. His decision to refuse marriage and break away from her family, despite his love for her and the physical violence used to coerce him, highlights the immense personal cost of his spiritual vow. The ultimate tragedy of her death before his return underscores the novel’s uncompromising perspective on worldly attachments: enlightenment is not an additive journey, but one of radical surrender.

Super Science Vol. 1 N. Alessandro K. After a mysterious event turns ordinary citizens into "mad scientists," two of the LAPD’s finest must maintain order amidst a chaotic landscape of rogue inventors, experimental hybrids, and high-tech conspiracies.

“The Undying Diamond Heart” is a deeply atmospheric and uncompromising historical saga. Xuemo balances esoteric Buddhist doctrine with universal human conflicts of love, loyalty, and betrayal. While the number of spiritual trials and visionary sequences requires an attentive reader, the novel is a powerful testament to the human search for truth: proving that true realization is never given, but relentlessly forged.

Death in the End Zone by Lynn Slaughter

Mystery/Crime/Suspense • ISBN: 979-8886534856

GIFT•GUIDE

The second of Lynn Slaughter’s books in the Detective Caitlin O’Connor series, Death in the End Zone is an entertaining police procedural with absorbing character development.

A gritty, global exploration of justice, grief, and the limits of the law, “Against All Odds,” delivers a sprawling, multi-layered tapestry of contemporary American life that is as much a searing indictment of systemic failure as it is a quiet study of personal resilience.

Lynn Slaughter’s Death in the End Zone presents a dark, meticulously plotted adult police procedural that balances the methodical grind of detective work with a deeply troubling narrative of abuse, power, and tragic double murder. Centered on homicide Lieutenant Caitlin O’Connor and her team, the novel uses a shocking crime at a local high school as a lens to examine secret lives, city facades, and the devastating reach of institutional predators.

Against All Odds Richard A. Danzig When a principled lawyer defending a detained Lebanese doctor and a grieving family are swept into a web of government abuse, criminal conspiracy, and personal loss, he must fight corrupt power in court and in the streets to save the people he loves and reclaim his own faith in justice.

Detective O’Connor’s latest case begins with two high school football stars found dead in the end zone of their own field. The position in which they were left in, undoubtedly by the killer, suggests the boys could have been more than just teammates and friends. O’Conner must figure out who murdered these two young men and why they wanted the world to think they were together, all while facing mounting pressure from her captain and the public. The religious homophobia and traditional masculinity that surround the teenage victims certainly doesn’t make the investigation any easier. At the same time, O’Connor is grappling with several matters in her personal life. Her deepening relationship with her boyfriend Hank, her mother’s romantic life since her father’s death, and the stability of her long-time partner Stan all weigh heavily on O’Connor as she works the case.

www.printedwordreviews.com/bookreviews/979-8251841657

“The Soul Octopus Analogy:” aggressively disrupts models of reincarnation as a chronological staircase. By replacing the spiritual ladder with the radical, decentralized anatomy of the octopus, Megargee offers a brilliant, unified symbolic architecture that challenges readers to view consciousness as a simultaneous web of experience.

Slaughter grounds the investigation firmly in realistic police procedure. O’Connor and her partner, Stan Bisso, rely on classic investigative fundamentals: tracking inconsistencies in parent alibis, interviewing friends and school officials, and piecing together digital and paper trails. The discovery of a poem unearths a history of sexual abuse, smartly pivoting the motive from a simple hate crime or football rivalry to a perpetrator acting out of panic and a desire for self-preservation. Although the killer may be obvious before he is revealed, reading about O’Connor and her partner discussing their latest interview over some sandwiches from Zoi’s is an entirely pleasurable and engaging experience. Slaughter’s straightforward, matter-of-fact writing style is part of what makes Death in the Endzone so consumable. Her prose is factual without becoming clinical, which makes O’Connor’s world easy to jump into. The atmospheric details of the New Haven setting, and the thorough descriptions of even the smallest characters, allow the reader to become enveloped in a fully-realized universe.

The Soul Octopus Analogy: The Soul's Endless Dance across the Web of Creation Bud Megargee

Slaughter avoids a neat, bow-tied ending. A sudden event during the arrest deprives the victims’ families, leaving O’Connor and Vince to navigate the grim administrative aftermath with Internal Affairs. This ending reinforces the novel’s realistic, unvarnished tone: justice in homicide work is often messy, pyrrhic, and heavy.

A spiritual guide reimagines reincarnation as an octopus-like cosmic web of consciousness, where each soul navigates multiple lives, shadow and light, and elemental wisdom to awaken to its infinite multidimensional nature.

Slaughter’s depiction of O’Connor’s personal relationships and internal struggles are what really drive this narrative forward. These elements provide a refreshing counterbalance to both the tragic nature of the case, and the procedural development of the detective’s findings. The stakes of the narrative are equally driven by the case and O’Connor’s personal life, and Slaughter effectively moves between the two in order to raise them. Ultimately, these more intimate aspects of the book solidify its mass appeal. As much as we are witnessing a detective solve a brutal double-homocide, we are also watching a woman come fully into herself as a partner, daughter, and friend.

Bringing Wildlife, STEM,

and Conservation to Life Through Children’s Books

O

n a recent episode of The Gab Talks, we welcomed two inspiring guests for a conversation about children’s literature, wildlife, STEM education, and conservation. Ashley Mosley, award-winning children’s book author, conservation storyteller, and Marketing Director for Inspire EdVentures, and Michael Windelspecht, founder of Inspire EdVentures joined us from North Carolina. Together, Ashley and Michael are making science and wildlife education exciting and accessible for young readers through the Into the Jungle STEM book series, which includes Nacho House Cat and Why Did the Tapir Cross the Street? and Ashley’s latest release, This Birdie Told Me, a Distinguished Favorite in the 2026 New York City Big Book Award.

Through school visits, literacy outreach, educational activities, and community programs, Inspire EdVentures and Ashley Mosley Books inspire children to explore wildlife and conservation, spark curiosity through STEM, strengthen literacy skills, and discover the power of creativity and imagination. By blending storytelling with hands-on learning and real-world connections, their work helps young learners build knowledge, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

them be curious about the world around them. Gabby: Michael, you’re the founder of Inspire Edventures. What did you hope to create when you first launched it? Michael: At Inspire Edventures we are teachers and scientists. I’m a biologist, been teaching for about 20 years. Inspire Edventures is designed to make educational resources for learners of all ages. We want to get science into people’s hands. Ashley’s creativity has given us the ability to approach a market which, to be honest with you, for a long time we haven’t played in. Primarily we’ve done high school and college. I’m a textbook author myself, so I have published before. Ashley is our marketing director, but in this case we’re trying to push her vision of these sets of children’s books for young kids, the littles, It’s been a load of fun.

Gabby: Ashley, for followers who are meeting you for the first time, tell us a little bit about yourself. Ashley: I’m an author, but I’m also I’m a mom and a dance teacher. I’ve worked with little kids (I like to call them littles)for more than twenty years. That’s where a lot of this started. I have such a heart for working with kids and watching their creativity come to life; watching

www.PrintedWordReviews.com

www.PrintedWordReviews.com

Gabby: This is quite a collaboration. How did the Into The Jungle book series evolve and how is it connected to the Belize Zoo?

that the kids recognize that these animals are out there. Once we make a connection with it we’re much much more likely to pay attention to it in the future. Each animal has its own story, its own background, and therefore its own conservation issue. The ability to put those into a story makes them want to inquire and learn more.

Ashley: Michael’s been working with the Belize Zoo for years. I went to him one day and said I really think we’re missing a big opportunity here. If we put out some of these unique animals that you’re seeing in Belize and get them in front of kids, they will love them. The first one was Nacho House Cat, and that’s actually kind of how the story began. What a beautiful way to help littles understand big cats by explaining how they’re similar and different from the cats that they’ve already experienced. The book just gained this momentum. We started taking it to classrooms and the kids loved it. There’s so many interesting animals in Belize. We just keep running with it.

Gabby: What do you hope that the littles learn, not just about wildlife, but also about themselves and their place in the world when they finish one of the books or all of the books in the Into The Jungle Series? Ashley: I want them to keep this curiosity that kids just naturally have. Reading these books and then wanting to learn more and carrying that idea with them through life. We’re constantly having information thrown at us and when something catches our attention, dive into it and just keeping that general curiosity about the world around us and all the fascinating things that there are to discover.

Gabby: One of the really cool things about Inspire Edventures and the book series is that the learning and the experience doesn’t stop when the book ends. You have so many resources beyond the book. Michael: We try to build resources for teachers to get these materials into the classroom. As Ashley was building these books, we realized the fact that we were really looking at an educational resource. We started to build all the things around it, tool kits, free resources. There are different activities and they are constantly evolving. Ashley has played a big role in melding together our scientific communication, wildlife conservation, getting kids to read and be engaged with these animals. If you read a book and you have a question, we want to help you get the answer.

Gabby: What are you both working on right now that you’re excited about? Ashley: We’re working on a new series called Pollinate the Planet. It will be about animals and insects that are pollinators. One book that’s getting ready to come out end of October and it’s called I’m a Bee. Michael: The pollinator series is actually based upon one of the cofounders of the company who owns an apiary and does work in classes in Illinois and after-school programs based upon building apiaries, teaching about hives and beekeeping. Once again, this is Ashley’s idea, and we’re pursuing this Pollinate the Planet Project.

Gabby: You have a lot of competition with screens and technology. One way that you keep these littles excited about books are your illustrations.

Ashley Mosley and Michael Windelspecht are inspiring the next generation to read, explore, and protect the natural world. Their storytelling and work beyond the book remind us that every great adventure begins with curiosity.

Ashley: We really wanted to make these full-on STEM or even STEAM books, if you will. We used a different illustrator with each of the three books. Every illustration in Nacho House Cat has been hand painted. Katherine, who is a college student, used colored pencils in Why Did The Tapir Cross The Street? This Birdie Told Me was all done digitally.

You can watch and listen to the full interview at www.theGabTalks.com. To purchase the Into The Jungle Series and learn more about Inspire Edventures and Ashley Moseley Books visit InspireEdventures.com and AshleyMoseley.com.

Gabby: A common thread with all of the books is empathy for animals. Why is that such an important part of early STEM education for these littles? Michael: I’m with the series as a science consultant. Each one of these books is based upon a real animal. For example, This Birdie Told Me is about a Scarlet Macaw named Ranger. Ranger is at the Belize Zoo. The Belize Zoo is one of our partners, but they really are a conservation center. They’re amazing at telling the stories about these animals. This is what Ashley’s fallen in love with. It’s important www.PrintedWordReviews.com

The debut novel from Sara Fanfarillo, “Everlasting,” is an atmospheric foray into the “puzzle-box” subgenre of Young Adult fantasy. For readers who enjoy speculative fiction that demands careful attention and rewards the reconstruction of a fractured history, Fanfarillo offers a haunting, high-concept quest.

Everlasting Sara Fanfarillo A sheltered boy raised in isolation by a secretive father must follow a mysterious key and map through deadly, time-bending worlds to uncover his true bloodline and stop a hidden force threatening both his family and reality.

SINGLE BOOK, MULTIPLE CATEGORIES: One who enters “Book One” in Children’s Educational and Book Cover Design Childrens category, the entry fee is $59 + $50 = $109.
