THE WORD “renovation” has the ability to conjure up pleasure and pain at the same time.

Anyone who has been through the experience of renovating a room, rooms or an entire home will know it often ends up being a tough time, sometimes even bringing the most placid of us into fight mode with contractors, family, suppliers – and even with ourselves.

But it is also such a fun time of creativity. Finding out – and dreaming up – what you’d love your home to be and making it a reality is a wonderful thing to be able to do.

And then there is also the time after the renovation when all the anger and distress is forgotten and you are left with a home of which you once only dreamed. This magazine is full of advice on how to sail through a renovation and useful tips on how to avoid nasty surprises with your contractors.

It also takes you through a number of wonderful “before and after” transformations. Happy renovating!
