NATIONAL POPCORN DAY SIZZLE, CRACKLE, POP. Popcorn: the perfect snack to grab while watching a movie, hanging out with friends, or reliving a nostalgic memory. Popcorn brings people together, and this is why we need to celebrate it. Sharing a bag of popcorn with someone isn’t a meaningless gesture, but a rich experience you will cherish, especially if it’s with someone special.
National Popcorn Day is celebrated on January 19th. Many theater chains offer special discounts and promotions to their customers. This day highlights the history of popcorn in the United States and encourages enjoying it in various savory or sweet forms. Most people like their popcorn buttered, while others like it with caramel; some like it spicy, while some like it colorful; some like it greasy and salty, while some like it light and airy; some like it cheddary, while some like it with weird drizzles like chocolate, cookies and cream, and cinnamon sugar. Popcorn has been around since ancient civilizations were roaming around the American continent. It is believed that the first use of wild and early cultivated corn was the popping method. These civilizations in countries like Peru and Mexico used it as food, decoration and ceremonial offerings. It became a popular U.S. snack in the 19th century, and it really peaked when many people came to enjoy it with a movie during the Great Depression and World War II. The first popcorn machine was invented in 1885 by Charles Cretors. As technology evolved over time, microwaveable popcorn came to life in 1982 with Pillsbury. Today, Nebraska produces the most popcorn in America, producing around 250 million pounds per year. Many people believe that popcorn is an unhealthy food because it contains a high sodium content, excess butter or sugar coatings. Depending on the preparation of the popcorn, it could be a nutrient-dense snack because it is a totally unprocessed whole grain that is high in fiber, low in calories and rich in antioxidants. Air-popped popcorn is a volume food that can make you feel fuller, which helps with weight loss, and it contains essential minerals like magnesium and phosphorus, which are trace elements that are essential to life. Instead of thinking about the physical effects on the human body caused by popcorn, let’s start looking at the psychological aspect of it. This food is tied to comfort, nostalgia and social bonding as a dopamine-releasing experience. Eating popcorn can trigger old memories at the movie theater with family and friends, or bonding with the people you love at your home, talking over a bowl of popcorn, childhood birthday parties, carnivals, school fairs, etc. Not only is popcorn a delicious snack, but it is also a time capsule that can bring back good memories.
MES DEL LIDERAZGO JUVENIL Por: Sara Ortiz

Social justice Awareness Day By: Estefanía Viejo
JUSTICE RECOGNITION Every year on February 20, the world celebrates National World Social Justice Day. This day encourages society to recognize the importance of fairness, equality, and human rights for all people. This day, established by the United Nations, reminds us that everyone deserves equal opportunities regardless of whether they are considered “minorities”. Social justice focuses on removing barriers like discrimination, poverty, and inequality so people can live with dignity.
Justice advocates and progression Throughout history, brave individuals have stood up to fight for social justice, such as Martin Luther King Jr., who peacefully protested to end racial segregation in the United States, inspiring millions with his message of equality. Similarly, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus, proving that even a single act of courage can spark huge change. These examples show that we can make a noticeable difference by taking small actions. Social justice is also a global movement. Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid in South Africa to ensure equal rights for all citizens, even after spending many years in prison. More recently, Malala Yousafzai has advocated for girls’ education, showing that the youth can also have powerful voices and make a difference. Their stories remind us that justice is not automatic; it requires courage, persistence, and hope.
Social Justice today Today, social justice continues in everyday actions, from standing up against bullying to supporting equal education and opportunities. This day encourages everyone to take responsibility for creating a fairer world. It has progressively increased the level of justice worldwide. Justice grows through small choices, like respecting others, speaking up, and helping those in need; therefore, to honor this date, people around the globe practice these traits, and because of this movement, over the past century, social justice has had a significant impact on this generation.
National Eating Disorder Awarness Month (NEDA) Eating Disorders? Huh, you may think you know all about them because people have always told you that you need to eat your nutrients, exercise, and everything will be fine. Well, there are many types of eating disorders, but the most common ones are anorexia (ANA), binge eating disorder (BED), and bulimia nerviosa (BN or mia). Most people get these eating disorders when they are teens, you start middle school, and you want to be thinner, maybe to impress a boy or to feel good about yourself. But you must never do these; it is tough to recover from these illnesses. You may think that eating disorders are just a way of people wanting to lose weight and stick to their physical appearance, but no, it is a mental illness, a serious one; it's not a lifestyle choice, it's a serious issue. This illness affects all ages, genders, body sizes, and backgrounds. Anorexia is the first eating disorder I mentioned. Anorexia is an eating disorder where you want to keep your weight as low as possible; your biggest fear becomes gaining weight. This eating disorder is caused by not eating, taking too many laxatives, or exercising too much. This eating disorder can happen to anybody of any body size. People may think this eating disorder is for “skinny people” because they are afraid of losing weight, but that myth is wrong; anyone, any body type can have this eating disorder. If this eating disorder goes on for a long time, the medical risk is high if not treated. When someone says eating disorder, most people think of people who don't eat or thin people. But that's not entirely true. Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder with recurrent binge eating without purging, feeling guilt, shame, or distress afterward. This disorder is not the result of weakness, laziness, or poor self-control; it is a medical psychological condition driven by changes in the brain. It is essential to know that BED is a diagnosed disorder, not just overeating. This disorder is the most common but also the most misunderstood. Bulimia nerviosa, also known as mia, is pretty simple compared to anorexia except that, instead of starving yourself, you binge eat. After binge eating, you try your hardest to get rid of it; some examples are making yourself vomit, excessive exercise, fasting, or using laxatives. With this disorder, you feel guilty after you eat. Most common signs and symptoms across these three eating disorders are obsessive thoughts about food or body image, skipping meals or eating in secret, mood changes, avoiding social situations involving food, or physical symptoms as dizziness, stomach issues, fatigue, and many more. Impact on physical and mental health effects on the heart, digestión, hormones, and energy levels, increased risk of anxiety, depresión, and isolation. Implications for school, work, and relationships. In conclusion, these eating disorders are a mental challenge and have a sound recovery system; it is hard to recover, but anything is possible. This article aims to raise awareness of eating disorders. There is nothing wrong with having an eating disorder; you have to help it. You are both in it together. This article is to raise awareness because February is National Eating Disorder Awareness Month. If you know anyone who needs help with an eating disorder, help them, or get someone to help you. A valentine’s Day story ELENA WILLIAMS, A 27-YEAR-OLD GIRL, HAS BEEN GETTING AN ANONYMOUS VALENTINE’S LETTER EVERY FEBRUARY 14TH FOR OVER A DECADE, EACH ONE WRITTEN IN THE SAME HANDWRITING AND SEALED WITH A TINY PRESSED VALENTINE'S STICKER. THIS YEAR’S LETTER FEELS DIFFERENT. THE HANDWRITING IS SHAKIER, THE MESSAGE MORE EMOTIONALAND IT ENDS WITH “I HOPE I HAVEN’T WAITED TOO LONG.” THAT LINE MAKES HER HAVE THE URGE TO FINALLY SOLVE THE MYSTERY. SHE NOTICES THREE CLUES SHE NEVER PAID ATTENTION TO BEFORE: A SMALL DRAWING OF THE LIGHTHOUSE FROM HER HOMETOWN, A QUOTE FROM A BOOK SHE USED TO READ ALOUD WITH HER CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND, AND A NICKNAME, LEN, THAT ONLY ONE PERSON EVER CALLED HER. SHE GOES UP TO HER APARTMENT TO FIND A OLD BIRTHDAY CARD IN A BOX AND TO HER SURPRISE SHE KNEW WHOS HANDWRITING THAT WAS PERFECTLY. ALL SIGNS POINT TO NIC SMITH, THE BOY WHO MOVED AWAY AFTER AN ARGUMENT YEARS AGO. FOLLOWING THE CLUES, SHE GOES TO THE LIGHTHOUSE AT SUNSET, WHERE SHE FINDS NIC WAITING WITH ONE LAST ENVELOPE, THIS TIME READY TO TELL HER THE TRUTH AND ASK FOR A REAL BEGINNING.

BLAME IT ON CUPID BEFORE THE ROSES STACKED A MILE, BEFORE THE CANDY, HEARTS, AND STYLE, A TINY GUY WITH WINGS SO SMALL FLEW AROUND AND MESSED WITH ALL. HIS NAME WAS CUPID LITTLE DUDE, WITH CHUBBY CHEEKS AND ATTITUDE. HE’D SHOOT HIS ARROWS LEFT AND RIGHT, NO WARNING SIGN, NO AIM IN SIGHT. TWO STRANGERS WALKING DOWN THE STREET SUDDENLY FELT THEIR HEARTS SKIP A BEAT. A KING, A BAKER, OR A KNIGHT? CUPID DIDN’T CARE WHO WOULD LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. PEOPLE FELL IN LOVE SO FAST, ALL BECAUSE HE FLEW RIGHT PAST. AND THAT’S WHY VALENTINE’S FEELS WILD. BLAME CUPID, THAT CHAOTIC CHILD. -MARIA CARATINI
Valentine’s Day Story
WILLIANYS CANCEL
Valentine’s Day is the day to express your love to your partner, either by giving them a gift or a bag full of chocolates. Many think it isn’t a big day like Halloween or Christmas, but in reality, it’s a beautiful day: the day when many express their feelings and show how loyal and confident they are in their partner and their relationship. Valentine’s Day is when you get the chance to stand out and confess to your crush. Many approach the opportunity to confess, and in the end, it’s a good thing, and it is worth it. The person who confessed might feel special and glad that someone finally asked to be their Valentine. Ever heard of high school sweethearts? Well, high school sweethearts are actually a good thing. Many high school sweethearts last a long time, so long that some of the high school sweethearts get married later in life. Fun fact: Some high school sweethearts approach Valentine’s Day to get to know each other better. Valentine’s Day isn’t only for a decoration in your calendar; Valentine’s Day is when many get chances and opportunities, and many have fun on Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day isn’t only for romantic couples or married people; Valentine’s Day can actually be celebrated with friends and family. In conclusion, Valentine’s Day is for everyone, not only for romantic couples. Sure, Valentine’s Day is known only for romantic stuff, but on Valentine’s Day, everyone has someone to talk to, no tears allowed on Valentine’s Day unless it’s happy tears of being accepted and loved.
