More efficient fire rescue operations thanks to a secure streaming solution
Copenhagen emergency services uses innovative technology to streamline their life saving work
The emergency services in Copenhagen have around 1000 employees distributed between 13 different addresses in the Danish capital. The emergency services provide firefighting support for around one million citizens in eight municipalities, to prevent injuries to people and damage to property.
Previously the emergency services had a traditional system using radio to communicate with the internal operations center during rescue operations.
”Communication under very stressful conditions is difficult,” says Magnus Mattsson, Operation Commander, Emergency Services in Copenhagen. ”It can be difficult to get all of the important information out quickly in the initial chaotic phase of a fire, and many decisions have to made quickly.”
The emergency services wanted help with a streaming video solution to streamline their work. Amongst other things, the operations center wanted to be able to send reinforcements and to support the first responders more quickly, in the event of a need for additional vehicles and personnel.
“Using video images has made a fantastic difference. The solution has provided incredibly huge benefits and has given us completely new opportunities to streamline our work so that we can save more lives.”
Magnus Mattsson, Operation Commander, Emergency Services in Copenhagen

Major support in stressful situations The streaming of images in real time allows the incident commander to immediately share important information about the extent and nature of an accident, including information that may be difficult to communicate via radio. The operations center gets a good overview and information to allow them to act quickly.
The solution is based on being able to use multiple mobile networks from different operators simultaneously, using from two to four SIM cards, adapted and optimized for video streaming. This way, an uninterrupted image video stream at high speed are ensured, even out in the countryside. It is an easily-accessible solution that does not make any major technical demands of the staff, but is simple to use.
”We often work under very stressed conditions so it is important that we can fully focus on the rescue operation itself. The operations management can see the whole course of events in all cameras and also make a longer-term assessment, how the fire may be expected to develop in one or two hours’ time and what action needs to be taken,” says Magnus Mattsson.
The operations center can assess whether reinforcements are needed, analyse the risks of fire spreading and start evacuation of people in adjacent buildings, if necessary.
”Sometimes you need to call in an external expert. For example, if we suspect a building may collapse then a building engineer can be given access to the video images and analyse them to determine whether we need to evacuate a property. If we can avoid evacuation, we save troubling the people involved as well as save money,” says Magnus Mattsson.

IncidentShare™
TURN KEY SOLUTION FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
IncidentShare™ is an Information Recording and Incident Sharing (IRIS) tool based on real-time events. IncidentShare™ is a unique tool which helps organizations share information from incidents.

London Fire Brigade trials streaming solution for drones
London Fire Brigade is the first fire and rescue service in UK to trial the Incendium real time streaming solution specially designed for unmanned vehicles (drones).
Incidents such as the blaze at Grenfell Tower in London last year, showed the importance of an unmanned aerial “birds eye” view at high rise emergencies, both to keep firefighters safe and to use their resources as effectively as possible.
As a response, London Fire Brigade have trained six drone pilots and will initiate the trial of the Incendium’s live streaming platform to support their drones with live video.
The high-definition video they capture is sent to the fire chief, the incident commander as well as the command central, directly from their drone via Incendium’s secure live streaming platform.

CHANNEL AGGREGATION
Channel aggregation or bonding is a method for utilizing multiple internet connections for increased throughput and redundancy. Our implementation uses a client-side application, as well as a cloud server component to seamlessly and efficiently distribute all the data transferred across your various internet connections.
TRUE PACKET LEVEL BONDING CHANNEL AGGREGATION ENCRYPTED VPN STATIC IP ROBUST FAILOVER
Channel aggregation makes it possible to spread individual packets amongst multiple internet connections. By splitting all your web traffic at the packet-level, even large single-socket transfers such as streaming movies and uploading and downloading files can be given a major speed boost!
This is accomplished by first using the Incendium client software to establish a connection to a Speed Server in the cloud. This Speed Server acts as a middleman between you and the rest of the internet. The Incendium client software then works in tandem with the Speed Server to intelligently divide your internet traffic and deliver the combined speed of all available internet connections.
Channel aggregation also offers robust failover capabilities, so even if you lose one of your internet connections during an important video stream or upload/download, your transfer will keep on transferring!
