Philanthropy is a critical component to the success of Incarnate Word Academy (IWA). Support from Alumni, Parents, Grandparents, Friends, Community Partners, Private Foundations, and the IWA Foundation provides vital resources to IWA, through gifts made directly to the school, and through gifts made directly to IWA auxiliary organizations and the IWA Foundation which exist to support the school. The collective support to IWA, Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) at each level, the Booster Club, and the Incarnate Word Academy Foundation generated $2,260,901 in combined philanthropic support for our IWA Community.

Bridging the Gap

Without state, tax, or diocesan funding, IWA has two sources of revenue--tuition and philanthropy. Every year tuition generates approximately 80% of the operating budget, and donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations bridge the 20% gap. By contributing to unrestricted funds through the Invest in Excellence IWA Fund and special events like Hopelessly Devoted to IWA, donors are making it possible for the school to operate and for repairs to be made as part of the operating budget.

Challenges of a 75 Year Old Campus

On the very first, and very hot day of the 23-24 school year, the high school chiller shut completely down leaving classrooms without air conditioning. We quickly adapted to online instruction for a couple of days while a loaner chiller was secured and installed. While equipment failure like this is a typical challenge of older buildings, we are blessed with generous donor support for unrestricted funds which allow the school to invest in repairs and facility upgrades that ensure IWA’s legacy of excellence long into the future. Repairs in 23-24 included:

• Replacing the HS chiller

• Refurbishing the cooling tower

• Replacing the ML boiler pump (photo to left)

• Replacing the EL office HVAC

• Updating buses with new wraps

• Repairing fencing at the track

• Replacing HS gym doors to prevent water leaks

We hope you feel inspired to see the impact of your gifts to IWA and to the auxiliary organizations that support IWA. Your support helps provide tuition assistance to nearly half of our student body and a robust student experience for all. We are blessed with donor partners, many of whom are parents and alumni, who believe in our mission and provide the resources to strengthen IWA’s ability to continue delivering a world class education with whole child formation where the individual gifts of every student are recognized, celebrated, and developed as a reflection of Christ. Thank you!
