SD Eibar UNDERDOG WITH A BITE THE SPANISH FOOTBALL CLUB SD EIBAR IS LOCATED IN THE PROUD TOWN OF EIBAR. THE CLUB IS CURRENTLY PLAYING IN LA LIGA; SPAIN’S BEST DIVISION. For the first time in its 74 years long history, the tiny Spanish football Club SD Eibar is set to join La Liga next season, rubbing shoulders with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Unfortunately, the club has to fight off the field too in order to reach its dreams. Although Eibar has earned the right to play in La Liga on the football field, the little club from the Spanish Basque Country is now facing the financial absurdity of modern football. Eibar is self-sustaining, completely free from debt and all their players are paid on time. Nevertheless, Eibar has to come up with 1.7 million Euros by August 6th due to a law passed in 1999.

Did you know? — Only last year SD Eibar was promoted to the Segunda A division after spending 5 years in the Segunda B division, and since then they have climbed up the Spanish football ranks all the way to La Liga. — The smallest club to have ever played in the top flight in England were Glossop North End, who hit the English First Division back in 1899 on a population of some 30,000. Eibar has 25,000 inhabitants.
Being a small club, Eibar is not in possession of that sort of money – and the story could have ended there, but it doesn’t! With a campaign “Defiende Al Eibar” the club now seeks to raise capital selling Eibar shares to football fans all over the world at 50 euro each.
