Leather

Split leather is a versatile material derived from the lower part of the cowhide after the top grain has been removed. Known for its durability and ability to hold color when dyed, split leather is commonly used in areas exposed to high levels of abrasion. It features a split leather backing covered with an embossed layer of polyurethane or vinyl, giving it a slightly stiffer feel. With a variety of thickness grades available, split leather offers reliable performance for various applications.

Alpina carefully chooses Top Grain leather for its exceptional attributes. During the production process, the natural grain on the top surface of the leather is skillfully sanded away, resulting in a thinner and more malleable material for manufacturers. This deliberate approach enhances the leather's strength, resistance to stains, and ability to maintain its shape over time. By selecting Top Grain leather, Alpina guarantees both durability and a comfortable fit, prioritizing the satisfaction of our valued customers.

Bycast leather is a synthetic leather material that is created by applying a layer of polyurethane or vinyl onto a split leather backing. This results in a smooth and glossy surface that closely resembles genuine leather. Known for its durability and resistance to wear, bycast leather is commonly used in furniture upholstery, bags, and accessories. Its sleek appearance and easy-to-clean nature make it a popular choice for those seeking a luxurious and long-lasting material.

Premium boots feature soft, fine-grained leather treated with chromium salts and dyed during production. This high-quality material is known for its flexibility, absorption properties, and durability, making it the ideal choice for the tongues and collars of these boots. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, these boots offer not only exceptional comfort but also a sophisticated look for the discerning wearer.

To help your boots last longer and perform at their best, you need to clean and condition them regularly.

Take out the laces, and brush off any loose dirt with a soft brush. If the sole of your shoe has caked-in mud, use a brush with hard bristles. Clean them sooner rather than later so the leather doesn't dry out. Regardless of the material, dirt should be removed as soon as you've finished hiking. For more thorough cleaning, add running water and whatever boot cleaner you have chosen.

Once water is fully soaked into your boots, apply the conditioner or waterproofing treatment. Read and carefully follow the application instructions for your product. Use leather conditioners with a waterproof breathable lining, because they won't affect leather natural breathability. For some more heavy-duty protection for smooth, full-grain leather, you can also use wax but when it is used on nubuck leather it can change the appearance of your shoes.
