SITE INFORMATION Site area: 16,500 m2 Height restriction: 12 m Flat rectangular site The subject of this semester is Ningbo University Pedestrian street; the commercial street also known as La ji jie, located in the north campus of Ningbo University and bounded by Zhongguan Road on the north, Yuxiu Road on the south and a dormitory on the east and the site is accessible from two entries; one from the north and the other from the south which can be considered as the main since it is close to the north campus of the university.

Climate

The university has a lot of green spaces but unfortunately the site is lacking

The site is reachable and easy to find with a 5min walk from the university

In Ningbo, the summers are short, hot, oppressive, wet, and mostly cloudy and the winters are very cold, windy, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 36°F to 92°F and is rarely below 29°F or above 98°F.

As seen the site is lacking creativeness and attractiveness The south entrance is accessible through Yuxiu Road. Because Ningbo University is located in the south, it is primarily used by students.

No greenery or sitting spaces

The food stand is sandwiched between two buildings.

And is one of the main purpose people come to the site

The north entrance is accessible through Zhongquan West Road.

Because there is a lot of traffic from the north end of the site, it is largely used by workers.

The problems : The street is such a place which attracts a lot of users mainly students, but one of the problems they face is the lack of community space to interact with each other -Crowded places because of delicious local food Goals and al -Spaces are not well-organized Space -Most of visitors are university students with more bikes than cars, but there seems to be no e-bike parks Have less attractiveness + the site seers to be a bit polluted Lack of spaces to hang out sit like benches Streets should be livable

Target users : A larger percentage of the commercial Street are in the '19 years old and below" age group Majority of the users of the commercial Street are students because of where it's situated, which is near a school.

Parents bring their children also University workers

Having enough space to walk is an essential component of how we feel about the action.

Attractiveness

Enjoyability and Active Streets Linked to attractiveness, making walking enjoyable, fun and providing a purpose outside of the act of moving is important and a key part of encouraging people to walk.

the streets need to be designed with making the environment as attractive as possible so that people will want to walk there • Seating or rest areas (both formalbenches and informal-planters & walls) that are well designed (that encourages. interaction with people or their surroundings), and well positioned (in places that people actually want to sit out of necessity and desire) add to the enjoyability

• Installing features on streets that pedestrians can engage with and enjoy gives a reason for people to visit and stay in the spaces. This can induce, attractive and varied shopping and leisure opportunities as well as community features interactive street art and activities, temporary road dousers and people focused activities.

SHENZHEN SHENWAN STREET PARK I chose this park as one of my precedents for many reasons since it create a well-established metropolitan public system as a TOD-based public space solution. The Park offers a well-established public space system that comprises a variety of public green spaces, a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, and an urban slow traffic system, transforming all inactive and grey building spaces into human-oriented pocket parks and street corner parks.

The fair-face concrete floor revitalizes sports fans of all ages, encouraging them to sweat profusely and share the joy of sports. The pet park's white sand pit is a new gathering spot for pet owners and their pets, as well as a popular kid's hangout.

The Park's life is a result of the city's presence. It revitalizes local social connections with a health focus and piques children's interest in nature with rainwater recycling systems. It serves as a popular running spot in the area and serves as a statement of nature amid a densely populated urban environment.

Community engagement :

Social media + website : This will help promote the site and the shops so people will find it an interesting spot to visit

Pop up architecture : Locating attractive architecture on the site will catch people’s eyes

Workshops : The need for local community engagement and ultimate say in their own areas, whenever we can lead a planning effort, we should endeavor to keep public participation in mind.

A community street in the NBU neighborhood, a rebuilt modern urban area Because the existing facilities are split across eight distinct buildings, creating a unified social concept with a shortage of sitting places is extremely difficult. My project's purpose is to provide a variety of leisure activities to the street users .

It will provide a popular bike path, bicycle parking, and a modest car park as an extension of urban life.

The fair-face concrete floor next to the bike path revitalizes sports fans of all ages, encouraging them to sweat profusely and share the joy of sports.

Among the services available on the street, there are various seating and resting spots under the shade of trees.

To continue the story on the rest of the space, there are ecological rainwater recycling installations that enliven social interactions

The first phase of the project, when I decided to create the Urban plaza in both the north and second entrances, it is defined by a layered circular form that playfully morphs, transforms, and adapts to the varying functions and experiences of the place; from the urban promenade along the street edge, to the water carpet that acts as a threshold arrival scene to the space, to the performance gallery, and the small social seating.

It is, without a doubt, a social experience location and a point of community interaction.

The odd appearance is the consequence of both adaptation and distinctness about the existing site, which is defined by its linear plan and brutalist use of concrete and weathered materials. The new structure uses the same materials and site arrangement as the old structure, but it reinterprets its use and appearance to distinguish it from the ancient site architecture.

Grey sandstone paving slabs owing to the natural grey and blue shade. It is a fine-grained and smooth light grey with light white veins running through its surface. All our Kandla grey sandstone stone paving slabs are nominal 22mm calibrated.

A concrete roofing can stay intact and sturdy for more than 50 years. Some properties built with concrete even last for up to a century. It's one of the most longlasting roofing materials available in the market.

The concrete was continued throughout the building, creating harmonious facades

The main ornamental feature of Green Mountain Sugar Maple is its brilliant red, yellow, or orange fall color that develops in the cooler part of its range.

Native to China but popularized in Japan, the weeping cherry tree is one of the most beautiful ornamental fruit trees in the world.

One of the most distinctive qualities of this location are the seating stairs that serves as pedestrian access to the second floors of the commercial buildings on the left side. In order to activate this pedestrian junction and convert it into an active and attractive public space, bright colors were used.

The major connection is made through the four triangular structures in the center, that serve also as an exhibition and collective area,

Tectonics .

Reinforced concrete is made stronger through reinforcement by steel bars that are embedded in the floor before the concrete is poured over and set. Reinforcement is extremely beneficial for concrete flooring as it helps reduce the likelihood of tensile stresses, cracking, or structural failure.

As I am planning on adding vegetation to the rooftops, I saw it fit to add a touch of nature to the buildings themselves to add to the harmony. An example of such a method can be seen below, which is a green rooftop terrace system. Flat roofs are perfect for use as green roofs. A flat, water-retaining green roof's system structure consists of a drainage layer with filterfleece, an enormous roof garden substrate, and a plant cover. Green roofs offer shade, remove heat from the air, and lower surface and surrounding air temperatures. Green roofs can help to mitigate the heat island effect in cities and other constructed areas with minimal vegetation, especially during the day.

For the cladding I chose steel as the main material, it is well known that Steel cladding is most used as protection during building construction of steel-framed buildings. It does not affect the structural integrity, but provides insulation, improves aesthetics, and is added as an external surface.

The vision for the project was to bring nature and natural systems into the heart of the design, so planting species selected are predominantly local and look to encourage insects, birds and wildlife to the urban corridor. This was satisfied by the rooftops that serve as extension of the main building units and as an interactive space ,

The Promenade consists of a network of connective walkways planters and social seating chairs that combined acts as a fringe and buffer to the main street set within a layer of trees.

Tectonics

The structural frame is built using 300mm-deep reinforced concrete slabs aligned and 400mm concrete columns.

No need to park your bike in the south parking if you don’t want to spend a lot of time walking to the middle of the street you can just ride it since we provide a famous bike path and then park it wherever you want .

I also decided to add some timber touches to the rooftop, mainly for decorating purposes.

The surface of the mould used is reflected in the initial surface finish of the glassfibre reinforced concrete (GRC / GFRC) product.

That’s why i went with it for my cladding facades with a brilliant finish

A composite design consisting of triangular boxes arranged opposite each other, which combine to form an integrated building that is connected by bridges that serve also as an exhibition and collective area .

Placing the greenery and wood carpet in the center of the triangular boxes in the short lane not only improves the building's looks, but also ties it to its surroundings, making it a building connected with, and even part of, nature.

The usage of a composite glass wall, which consists of numerous blocks of glass anchored in the place of the bricks, has been utilized in this structure, and this type of wall has many advantages and benefits, such as enabling natural light to enter the building in a way. Smooth also allows the light to go out at night, giving the impression that the structure is completely lighted, which will draw people s attention ,
