As COVID turned the world upside down, a new technology emerged that would do the same to apparel decoration. For decades, analogue screenprinting dominated T-shirt production thanks to its low cost per unit at scale, while Direct-To-Garment (DTG) printing established itself as the short-run digital alternative. Around 2019/2020, Direct to Film (DTF) printers began appearing at trade shows, largely from unfamiliar Chinese manufacturers. The early commercial rollout was far from smooth.
