This eliminates entire classes of bugs and can drastically reduce the time and cost of bringing complex silicon chips to market.

We’re looking for enthusiastic candidates with backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, physics, or electronic engineering who are excited about logic, problem-solving, and hardware design. Forgotten Women

forgottenwomen.org

Life-Saving Aid Delivered in Gaza | November Emergency Response

Stand number 11

Forgotten Women is a charity run by women for women, the charity was set up after witnessing first-hand the ‘sex for aid’ and manipulation of women in vulnerable situations, for this reason we only allow women on the front line to deliver aid to women.

We envision a world where every woman is given the opportunity to live a life free from humiliation, poverty and abuse. A world in which women are free to preserve their dignity, health, well-being and economic independence.

The journey of Forgotten Women began in 2013 during the Syrian conflict. Women were being lured into transactional sex, abused, and raped. As bombs fell over Aleppo, many women suffered miscarriages from the fear and panic caused by the chaos of war.

After extensive consultation, we decided to build a women’s-only hospital, run entirely by women. However, the situation in Aleppo changed abruptly, and the project could no longer be delivered. It quickly became clear that while the women of Syria urgently needed help, women across the world were also seeking assistance — aid and support that respected their dignity without putting them under threat or pressure. It was a moral imperative to stand up and make a difference. This is the reason Forgotten Women came into existence. The organisation was officially registered in October 2016, and our first safe aid delivery was for Syrian women affected by war on the Turkey-Syria border. Today, after more than seven years of delivering Safe Aid, our teams have supported thousands of women across continents. From those rebuilding after war to those surviving famine, displacement, and exploitation. Every box we deliver, every business we fund, every voice we amplify carries the same message: No woman should ever have to choose between her dignity and her survival.

The Government Operational Research Service (GORS) is an analytical profession for civil servants. GORS supports policy-making, strategy and operations in many different departments and agencies and employs over 1000 analysts, from sandwich students to Senior Civil Servants.

GORS analysts bring accuracy and thoroughness to the decision-making process. We are the analytical minds behind many of the Government’s policies, which means our work affects the lives of everyone in the UK.

Operational Research (OR) is also known as “Management Science”, “Business Analytics”, or “Data Science”. It is a multidisciplinary vocation which applies scientific and mathematical expertise and methodologies to problems outside the traditional boundaries of these fields.

The aim is to influence and improve organisational decision making and create better outcomes.

OR practitioners start with an analytical perspective and knowledge of mathematical modelling and statistics. They combine this with consultancy skills and formal techniques for stakeholder engagement and consensus building, to define, model and solve complex real-world problems.

GORS analysts help answer vital questions such as:

How can we measure and improve the quality of service in education, health, social security, and other public bodies?

How can we visualise and make predictions about the UK’s transport, electricity, and other infrastructure networks?

How can the UK best decarbonise its activities and fight climate change?

If you have a background in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering or other numerate discipline and want to use those skills for the benefit of everyone in the UK, then GORS is the place for you.

Operation Wallacea

www.opwall.com

Stand number 21

Operation Wallacea is a network of academics from European and North American universities, who design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research expeditions.

Research is supported by participants who join the programme, to strengthen their CV/Resume, gain skills they wish to gain or expand upon. They could also join to collect data for a dissertation or thesis (also known as an Independent Research Project (IRP). Academics benefit from funding for high quality fieldwork enabling them to publish papers in peer reviewed journals. This model enables the collection of large temporal and spatial datasets used for assessing the effectiveness of conservation management interventions.

We began working within the Wallacea region of Indonesia in 1995. Initially funded to run a rapid assessment of this poorly-explored area, we soon discovered that the need for long term monitoring data in many ecosystems was critical.

Nearly 30 years on, we now run biodiversity research expeditions all over the world, sourcing data that has underpinned hundreds of research papers and informed high-level environmental policy decisions in the sites we work in.
