Personal grooming gives your self-esteem a boost

Personal hygiene is really important as it keeps you healthy and helps you to feel good about yourself. If you look good and feel good it gives your self-esteem a boost. If you respect your body, you will know how important it is to look after yourself.

There are a few things that you can do:

• Be aware of odour

Everyone sweats, but kids usually don’t start having body odour until they reach puberty.

This happens when the sweat glands under the arms and around the genitals goes into full production.

Clothes can also be smelly when they get stained so you need to change it often. Underwear should be changed daily. Bacteria invades stains on clothes and that is why they start to smell. If you wear a school uniform and it is still clean in the afternoon, you can hang it up before you wear it again.

We all know that shoes can get really smelly. Sweat and bacteria accumulate in shoes so you need to keep it clean. Remove your shoes when you get home so that they can air and dry out. Never wear wet shoes.
