1. Write a number sentence for each of the statements or questions.

1.1 Rozelle plans to use different coloured plates for her birthday party. She wants 72 black plates, 96 gold plates, and silver plates. Rozelle needs 288 plates altogether. How many silver plates must she buy?

1.2 Bulelwa bakes 108 cupcakes for Rozelle’s party. She has already baked 24 chocolate cupcakes and 48 strawberry cupcakes. How many vanilla cupcakes must she bake?

1.3 Paul collects coins. His brother gave him 38 coins, his mom gave him 33 coins and his sister gave him 35 coins. How many coins does Paul have now?

1.4 Simphiwe takes the same route to school every day. He walks 4 blocks until he reaches the theatre, 8 blocks until he reaches the shop and 9 blocks until he reaches the school. If he has already walked 12 blocks, how many blocks must he still walk before he arrives at school?

1.5 Heidi is at Gold Reef City and she wants to ride the rollercoaster, which costs 31 tickets. The bumper cars cost 16 tickets and the merry-go-round costs 33 tickets. Heidi had 17 tickets, but she lost 6 tickets on one of the rides. How many tickets does she still need to enjoy all the rides?
