Activity 88: Comprehension Read the story and answer the questions.

Mandi’s strange dream Dot van der Westhuizen

Mandi wipes her forehead. She is competing in the interschool athletics tomorrow and has been practising all afternoon. Her biggest dream is to run the 100 m sprint in the Olympics one day. But right now she has to go home. At bedtime she quickly drifts off to sleep, tired from the day’s practise. Her dream carries her to a green athletics field and she can hear the spectators cheering. There are hundreds of athletes from all over the world. She notices a huge flame on a stand and next to it are the five circles everyone knows so well. She has qualified for the Olympics! She is still staring at all the famous athletes when she hears the announcer calling the names for the 100 m sprint. Mandi takes her position for the race. She is nervous and excited at the same time. The starting gun fires and she’s off! She breaks the ribbon at the finish line and the crowd cheers. She has broken the world record! She runs a victory lap around the field and waves at the crowd. On the podium she proudly holds her gold medal. 7
