perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3). In Job’s case, God allowed the devil to touch his properties and his health, something that Job’s friends could not understand. Even his wife thought that it was not possible to worship God under those conditions. Although Job’s flesh was falling apart, he was healthy inside, upright, free and god-fearing; there was no one on the earth like him, and his wife could not understand this. “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.” (Job 2:9). This is typical of those who worship God only when they succeed, when they have a moment of joy or when they get a pay raise in the company; then they celebrate. But when calamity, a time of trial, or difficulty strikes, then they rebel against God. Dearly beloved, God has no limits, He can heal and save you. Do not worry about threats or what the enemy has conspired against your life. There is an Almighty God who will watch over your coming and going. He will be a fence and shield around you, God will give you the victory. Amen u
ourselves, know whom we trust and know
whom we have our confidence placed in, because some people only trust in God when they are healthy, when they have things, when everything is at peace. Remember that Acts chapter 27 describes a shipwreck. Apostle Paul was there, and God talked to him and comforted him. Paul stood forth, took some food, called the others and told them to partake of the bread; they said that they did not want to take any food because they were disturbed, worried, distressed. Paul said, “I exhort you to be of good
cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.” (Acts 27:22-24). Paul had been in jail before. After many lashes and with his feet fast in the stocks, he and Silas worshiped and praised God. The Bible says, “And the prisoners heard them” (Acts 16:22-25). It was not normal, these people praised and worshiped, which proves that there is peace in the midst of a

I
N 1940, H.G. Wells published a non-fiction book entitled “The New World Order.” It did not have any repercussion back then, but the call for a new world order has intensified in recent years. In 1977, when the spaceships Voyager I and II were laun8 Impacto evangelistic
ched, U.S. president Jimmy Carter said, “This Voyager spacecraft was constructed by the United States of America… We human beings are still divided into nation states, but these states are rapidly becoming a single global civilization….” In 1990, U.S. president George Bush addressed the Congress in order to deal with the Persian Gulf crisis. In his speech, he mentioned repeatedly a New World Order. Four months later, he explained, “What is at stake is more than one small country, it is a big idea--a new world order where diverse nations are drawn together in a common cause to achieve the universal
aspirations of mankind: peace and security, freedom and the rule of law.” Not only politicians and presidents have put pressure on a new world order; even Pope Benedict XVI, in his encyclical of July 2009, showed his support to change in the international paradigm, “In the face of the unrelenting growth of global interdependence, there is a strongly felt need, even in the midst of a global recession… of a true world political authority… this new authority would need to be universally recognized and would be vested with the effective power to carry out its vast mandate.”

g The new world order appears for the first time in Genesis. The civilization that arose after the Flood settled on a plain in the land of Shinar (Genesis 11:2). Shinar is located in present-day Iraq, where Babylon was situated. The Bible indicates that Nimrod decided to bring all the nations together to form a powerful society. They decided to declare and claim their unified power by building a tower “whose top may reach unto heaven” (Genesis 11:4). It would raise as a symbol of human power and self-sufficiency, and it would attract people towards a new world order. Nimrod’s new world order was an act of rebellion against God because it was moved by pride. It is noteworthy that in Genesis 11:3-4 the builders of the tower used the word “us” five times and not even once the name of God. Clearly, this new world order was driven by pride, self-sufficiency and rebellion. Despite the failure of Babel, unifying nations is still attracting followers and will always be a fatal mistake and affront to God. NEW ORDER’S ATTEMPT
Robert H. Montgomery, from the University of Texas, warned that another war during the atomic age would mean the end of humanity. It was this fear which led to the development of the United Nations in 1945 and to the first clamors for a political unified world under a unique controlling authority. The United Nations encourage the modern attempt of creating a new world order. Human 10 Impacto evangelistic
THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SATAN The Antichrist is definitely the evil’s executive director. The Antichrist is described in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 as “the man of sin and son of perdition.” The word Antichrist certainly refers to a person who is against Christ. The Antichrist will seek to be a substitute for Christ, he will claim to be the Messiah, a pseudo-Christ; he will be in opposition to Christ and will also imitate Him. Paul writes, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work” (2 Thessalonians 2:7). According to John and Paul, the spirit of the Antichrist will be in action even before the person of the Antichrist is revealed.
John Philips describes the Antichrist this way: The Antichrist will be an attractive and charismatic figure, a genius, a demon-controlled, devil-taught charmer of men. He will have answers to the horrendous problems of mankind. He will be all things to all men: a political statesman, a social lion, a financial wizard, an intellectual giant, a religious deceiver, a masterful orator, a gifted organizer. He will be Satan’s masterpiece of deception, the world’s false messiah. With boundless enthusiasm the masses will follow him and readily enthrone him in their hearts as this world’s savior and god.

attempts to achieve world peace have failed and will always fail. Christ said to His disciples, “And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars… For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” (Matthew 24:6-7). In his book, “Shadow Government”, Grant Jeffrey writes, “Since 1945 the number of wars has increased tremendously… more than 350 wars have been fought between World War II and the current time”. Despite thousands of
negotiations and peace treaties, the 20th century was without doubt the century of war. Therefore, nowadays we hear about a new world order as never before. However, the unification they aspire to cannot lead to world peace because man’s heart is still not revived. The theologian and apologist Francis Schaeffer said, “History indicates that at a certain point of economic breakdown people cease being concerned with individual liberties and are ready to accept regimentation.” Currently the dominant values are peace and personal prosperity, but these values are being threatened by the unstable world economy. As these threats increase, people will be ready to sell their souls to an authoritarian government that promises uninterrupted peace and prosperity. Bible says in Daniel 7 and Revelations 13 that such authoritarian government will emerge under the guidance of a powerful world leader. The nations will open their arms to welcome the promise of peace from that leader, but it will be a false promise to deceitfully manipulate humanity. This charismatic leader will be in fact the Antichrist, and his deceiving promise of peace will forge the nations while he establishes his kingdom of terror and destruction. THE NEW WORLD ECONOMY
Most historians and economists point to 1944 as the official beginning of what we now call world economy. As the World War II was ending,

g 730 leading politicians from around the world gathered with the purpose of stabilizing and reorganizing the world economy. The delegates were challenged to set rules for the global trade, find new ways to facilitate the international market, and stabilize the international exchange rates. As a result, the delegates established in Bretton Woods the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank Group and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). The BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are growing while the United States suffers. In January 2009, at the G8 meeting, the president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev introduced on behalf of the BRIC a new “supranational currency” which would transcend borders. This new currency would replace the U.S. dollar as the world reserve currency. According to the prophecy expert Mark Hitchcock, the global financial chaos could be “the first domino to fall in a chain of events that is setting the stage for the economy of the end times.” There are global trends that are leading us towards the new world order. We are talking about global institutions including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Even though they are banks in the traditional sense, they have global presence. Another trend is the Global Regulatory Board: in April 2009, twenty central bank governors and finance ministers of the major world economies made a summit 12 Impacto evangelistic
to establish the framework for a new world order. The catalyst for this G20 summit was the global impact of the banking crisis and the global recession. The result seems to have passed unnoticed for most Americans. It was adopted a global plan that headed to unique regulations and ordinances that will be governed by the Financial Stability Board (FSB). CRISIS AND CONCENTRATION
Money, job and food scarcity can lead people to accept extreme measures in order to survive. In times of desperation, people often accept strong centralized governments that supports them. In a centralized government, all the power of a nation is granted to one person or to a very limited group. In 1940 there were 14,399 banks in the United States. Nowadays, there are a half of them, and the number continues diminishing hastily. Some of the effects of the financial crisis around the world have been centralization, concentration and money control by an increasingly smaller number of banks. In the United States, the centralization took place on October 30, 2009. The San Diego National Bank became a failure statistic, and now it is one of the 140 banks that have collapsed and have been taken over by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Plans for a better regulation took U.S. president Obama to the core of Wall Street in April 2010. In his speech, he affirmed that the reform of financial institutions is necessary. Financial regulation and concentration
would not only safeguard the system against the crisis, but it would also make the United States stronger and more competitive. In 1988, U.S. president Ronald Reagan created “the plunge protection team” or “the four dictators.” This group included the Secretary of the Treasury, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Chairman of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission. The committee intervenes when the stock market is about to crash. The PPT has been called to execute three rescues: in January and October 2008 and, more recently, on May 6, 2010. Robert Kiyosaki, expert on U.S. investment, says, “I believe the end is near. I think that the four dictators will not be able to prevent more crashes.” The target of concentration is to put the welfare of the rest under the control of one person. Niccoló Machiavelli advices potential leaders to learn how to use the convenience of deception. The most successful leaders are those who used little honesty. According to Machiavelli, it is not necessary that a leader be a good person, “he only needs to give the impression of being merciful, faithful, humanitarian, religious, and upright” so that he can give the appearance to act otherwise. Most leaders who concentrate power turn out to be tyrants. They first gain power by dealing with the crisis and hiding their true intention behind

a Machiavellian mask of deception. Hitler was the perfect example of the Machiavellian philosophy of deception to obtain control. SIGNS OF THE END-TIMES
On the closing verses of the prophecy, Daniel is told, “shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end” (Daniel 12:4). The end time is described as the age when many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Both parts of the prophecy have been fulfilled. Science has developed and technological means of communication have been spread to the point that this period has been suitably named “the information age”. The apparently omnipresent search-engine (Google, Bing, etc.) is spreading out its reach though the “search engine optimization”. With these improvements, Google can remain on the market based on our interests; it can follow us through the
web and notice where we stop. In 1965, Intel co-founder Gordon Moore formulated a general rule known as “Moore’s law”. This law quantifies the exponential growth of technology stating that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every eighteen months. Robert Samuelson, columnist of political, economic and social issues of the Washington Post, says, “the long-predicted cashless society, has quietly already arrived, or nearly so. Electronic money is cheaper than cash or checks… it is more convenient…we have crossed a cultural and, as well, an economic threshold when plastic and money are synonymous.” Peter Ayliffe, chief executive of Visa in Europe, says, “within five years, paying for goods with notes and coins could be consigned to history… and some retailers could start charging an extra fee if they chose to

pay with cash.” THE INFLUENCE OF EUROPE It has been 2500 years since God gave Daniel a message through a dream about the four great empires that would rule the world from the Babylonian era until the end-times. Three of the prophesied kingdoms have passed and gone, and the fourth one, the Roman Empire, has also made his appearance in history. Nevertheless, this last one has never been destroyed. Currently, we are seeing a resurgence of the Roman Empire, or a reconstituted form of it. This seems to be consistent with the prophecy of Daniel, who said that the Roman Empire would go through a powerful resurgence in the end-times. Gradually, the European nations have joined together creating a modern replica of the ancient Roman Empire, structured in three organizations: a parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. In these times we should be faithful to God. Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions because of his faithfulness to God. Later on he said, “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you” (Daniel 6:22). This event reveals a true challenge for us today. Whether they pressure us to bow to political correctness, multiculturalism or ecumenism; we cannot let them push us outside God’s path. We should keep our faith. Waiting on the Lord and praising His name (Psalm 71:14) u november 2013

Account of the global crisis Worlwide Missionar Movement
1963 America • 1963 Europe • 1981 Oceania • 1984 Africa • 1989 Asia
According to the main macroeconomic indicators, in 2008 a global economic crisis was triggered, and the consequences have not been overcome yet. The global financial crisis began in 2008 in the United States. Among the main factors causing this crisis we can mention the high prices of raw materials – due to high global inflation, overvaluation of goods, worldwide energy and food crisis, and threat of a global recession –, the subprime mortgage crisis, the credit crunch, and the crisis of market confidence.
The 2008 financial crisis has been noted by many international experts as the “crisis of the developed countries” because their consequences are mainly observed in the world's richest countries.

What is the GDP?
What is the IMF?
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is a market value of all officially recognized final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time (usually a year). GDP per capita is used as an indicator of a society’s standard of living and is a subject of macroeconomics. Its estimate is related to national accounts. To estimate it, several complementary methods are used. After due adjustment of its results, the underground economy is partially included in GDP estimates.
The International Monetary Fund or IMF, as a project, was outlined on July 22, 1944 during a UN convention in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, United States. It was officially created in 1945. The IMF is an international organization of 188 countries working to “foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world.”

The end of the “Arab Spring”?
The Arab Spring seems doomed to disappear after a very short time. The democratic wave that emerged after the revolutions of 2011 has almost completely disappeared. What does the future hold? Rev. Domingo Fernández Wenceslao Calvo
T
HE “ARAB SPRING” that emerged two years ago in several countries of North Africa and the Middle East has fallen into a decline. The massacres that have been taking place in Syria for several months now are causing serious harm to the process. The rise to power and the fall of conservative Muslim parties in Egypt and Tunisia seeking to impose Islamic laws, led astray the potential rebels in other countries of the region. Likewise, most of the governments of the Arab nations heard the message 16 Impacto evangelistic
and began to take measures to avoid eventual popular uprisings, which were finally appeased after the wars in Libya and Syria. The president of the United States Barack Obama himself is now in a difficult situation. The revolts of the “Arab Spring” were enthusiastically supported by the West in general and particularly by the U.S. However, after the turn of events, Obama has become a prisoner of his support to the Arab Spring, which has resulted in pseudo Islamist dictatorships. The global disappointment for the “failure” of the “Arab Spring” after the victory of the Islamists in Egypt and Tunisia, comes from the changes that were expected to take place without backing down. They did not understand that these are long processes that often experience ups and downs as well as setbacks. The initial boost of the
Arab revolts began to falter with the civil war in Syria, which is affecting several countries in the region that indirectly suffer the consequences of this conflagration. ETHNIC CONFRONTATIONS
Turkey is the country that suffered the most during the civil war in Syria due to the bombings on its territory, let alone the attacks and casualties produced in several bordering towns, one of the hottest spots of the conflict. Until a few days ago, 72 Tunisians had died on the borders because of the conflagration in the neighbouring country. There is one additional problem: there are internal problems due to the ethnic confrontations between Alawites and Sunnis caused by the arrival of Syrian refugees. “We are increasingly feeling the pressure of the current situation, the chaos

and the instability on the threshold of our home. The Turkish citizens living along the border are being constantly terrorized by the confrontations in northern Syria, along with the terrorist attacks committed by elements of the regime,” say the authorities. Perhaps the biggest fear of the Turkish government is the destabilization of the internal situation with the Kurdish minority. The reason is that within the followers of Al-Assad, a Kurdish group controls a region in the north of the country and dreams of autonomy, something that Ankara has denied them for decades. IMPACT ON LEBANON
The Syrian crisis is also affecting Lebanon, which has re18 Impacto evangelistic
ceived so far nearly 1.5 million Syrians, a number that could reach 2.5 million in 2014 in a country of 4 million people. This is having an impact on the economy because it is difficult to assimilate. There are problems in terms of infrastructure: schools,
hospitals and housing. The Lebanese authorities say they will not close the borders because their “essence has always been to welcome the oppressed, but there is a limit.” So far, the situation is under control, but it is fertile ground for terrorism.
INTERNATIONAL
Many of the refugees are jihadists, fundamentalists and have their own cells. Lebanon needs international support for its Armed Forces because they have weapons and technology that outnumber the soldiers. An eventual fall of AlAssad could affect Lebanon in one way or another. If an Islamic fundamentalist regime arises, the neighbouring countries will pay the consequences. For this reason, most people think that help should be given to the Armed forces, so that they can take over and establish a democracy. ON THE ALERT
The Syrian crisis is also extremely critical to the Israelis, due to the implications
in their future. This is a country with which Israel still maintains belligerence, although there has not been armed confrontations since 1973. One of the most worrying problems of the Netanyahu government is “the future of the biological weapons of Bashar Al-Assad. If they fall into the hands of fundamentalist rebels, they could be used” either to attack them directly or to be given to some of their enemies. Something similar applies to the technology for the nuclear development of Syria (still in its possession) although the nuclear reactors they were designing were bombed in 2007 by the Israelis. These elements and scientists could be captured by the resistance and
transferred to fundamentalists. The Netanyahu government is on the alert concerning what might happen there. They do not exclude the possibility that if Al-Assad were surrounded, he “may resort to an attack” against the Jewish state to “unify forces within its territory”, since an armed response may be received from the other side of the border. Another hypothesis is that the Syrian leader may attempt a “bombing against Israel, camouflaged within the rebel groups”, so that Jerusalem responds and weakens its firepower. But, the question they have posed is how they should react if a large wave of refugees approached the border looking for humanitarian aid u november 2013

The Apocryphal (I) Gospels
This is the second part of “Conspiracy against the Scriptures”, a book that we started to publish in the latest edition with a chapter defending the veracity of the Reina Valera version. Rev. Domingo Fernández Dr. César Vidal Manzanares
T
HE BIBLE SOCIETIES publish for Latin America a magazine titled “La Biblia”. On pages 35 to 37 of the October-December 1978 issue, there was an article written by Dr. Gonzalo Báez-Camargo titled “The Bible Societies and the Deuterocanonical Books”. Clearly, the purpose of this article was to justify the inclusion of the so-called “Apocryphal Gospels” in a new version of the Bible published by the said Bible Societies, and so prepare the atmosphere for a warm welcome. On page 38 of the afore20 Impacto evangelistic
mentioned magazine, there is a diagram in which the fifteen versions of the Spanish Language Bible are listed in the following chronological order: l. Dios habla hoy 1978 2. Nueva Biblia Española 1976 3. Biblia para Latinoamérica 1971 4. Biblia de Jerusalén 1967 5. Biblia de Herder 1964 6. Biblia Bover-Cantera 1947 7. Biblia Straubinger 1944 8. Biblia del Duque de Alba 1430 15. Biblia Alfonsina 1280 The first one is the new version of the Bible Societies translated from Hebrew and Greek and including the Apocryphal Gospels. It is also called “Popular Version” (PV). Numbers 2-8 are Roman
Catholic versions translated from the original languages that also include the Apocryphal Gospels. According to this magazine, numbers 10-15 are translations of the Latin Vulgate. As may be seen, Reina Valera is included in this classification.
As we read this, we experienced feelings of indignation. So far, the authorities of the Catholic and Evangelical Church have acknowledged and proclaimed that the Casiodoro de Reina version is derived from the original texts. However, the Bible So-
cieties now deny what has been a general criterion for Catholics and Evangelicals. What is behind this attitude? That Bible Societies want to detract from the versions that they have published for 120 years to bring to the forefront the new version that includes
the Apocryphal Gospels. The following is our answer to this situation. ARE THERE 39 OR 46 BOOKS?
Regarding the New Testament, there are no differences between the catholic and

g the evangelic version, which does not apply to the Old Testament, where there are some differences. The Old Testament in the evangelical version had until now 39 books, while the catholic versions had 46 books and several chapters added to the Book of Esther and the Book of Daniel. The seven additional books are Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiastes, Baruch, I Maccabees and II Maccabees. Why are they called Apocryphal Gospels? The first one to call them apocryphal was Saint Jerome, translator of the Latin Vulgate. According to a Catholic author, “the term apocryphal is used among Catholics to refer to religious texts not included in the canon of the Scripture, which, even though they are not inspired, they were thought to have a divine origin or were once considered sacred.” The word apocryphal is a synonym of false. We, the evangelicals, have never recognized the Apocryphal Gospels as being inspired by God. NEVER INCLUDED IN THE CANON
The Old Testament consists of inspired books written in Hebrew, by Hebrew prophets and aimed at the Hebrew people. The apostle says, under divine inspiration, that the Law of God was enacted for the Israelite people (Romans 9:4) and that God committed the care and preservation of the Scriptures to the Israelites (Romans 3:1-2). The Catholic author M.Chasles states that, “The Old Testament was written for the Jewish people in the first place. They received and de22 Impacto evangelistic
posited it. The Scriptures has been transmitted to us by Israel with the same scrupulous spirit that have ensured the preservation of the Hebrew customs.” The statement of this Catholic author is crucial with regard to the issue we are dealing with. The so-called Apocryphal Gospels were not written in Hebrew by Hebrew prophets inspired by God. They were never included in the Hebrew Old Testament. In fact, when these books became a part of the Greek version of the Bible, the Israelites called a council held in Jamnia aimed at considering the nature of the books
added to the Greek version. To determine whether a book is inspired or not, that council stated the following basis: a) The book must be consistent with the Law of Moses b) The book must have its origins in Palestine c) The book must be written in Hebrew d) The book must have been written before Ezra’s death As the aforementioned books did not comply with the requirements stated by the Council, it was determined that they did not deserve to be part of the collection of books inspired by God. The Hebrew have always believe that Ezra,
REALITY
under divine inspiration, established the canon or catalogue of the inspired books of the Old Testament. In general, the Apocryphal Gospels were written between 150 BC and 100 AD, at least two centuries after Ezra’s death. The Catholic author M.Chasles also states that, “Seven books of the (Catholic) Old Testament were not admitted into the number of the Scriptures by the doctors of the Law in Jerusalem. At the time of Jesus Christ and the Apostles, Jerusalem had a Hebrew Bible made up of thirty-nine books”. The translators of the Greek version
“translated the 39 books of the Hebrew Jerusalem Bible from Hebrew to Greek, and then they added the other seven books that were only in the Greek original version.” This sincere, statement of a Catholic about the Apocryphal Gospels, places them out of the catalogue of inspired books and determines that they were “added” by those who had no authority to do so. IMPLICIT RECOGNITION
The Vatican tacitly recognizes that the Apocryphal Gospels were not written under divine inspiration. The Catholic
Church describes the 39 books of the Hebrew canon or catalogue as protocanonical and the other 7 apocryphal books as deuterocanonical. The inspired books are generally called canonical (part of the canon of the Scriptures). The Roman Church has created the terms protocanonical and deuterocanonical to distinguish or separate the books of the Hebrew canon from the ones that are not part of this catalogue. The prefix proto is used to denote superiority and the prefix deuto means second or inferior. These books are also called the “Second Canon” or the secondary canon. When qualifying the seven books in question as inferior, the Roman Church recognizes that in its versions of the Bible there are two kinds of books: first- and second-class books, superior and inferior books. Is there first- and secondclass inspiration or superior and inferior inspiration? Here is an example of what we state: In the evangelical versions (until now), the third chapter of the Book of Daniel is made up of thirty verses. Between verse 23 and verse 24 of the evangelical versions, the Catholic versions have the header “deuterocanonical part” and, at the end, they enter the header “protocanonical part”. This dual classification of a chapter implies the tacit recognition that Daniel did not write the 67 verses that were added in the Greek version. It would be absurd to suppose that prophet Daniel wrote 23 verses under divine inspiration and then 67 without it, or with a lower degree of inspiration u november 2013

Victory in Jesus
A song that shakes the Christian people and reminds us that we can attain spiritual superiority only with God. It was written by the American author Eugene Monroe Bartlett.
T
HE HYMN “Victory in Jesus” is an important part of religious music. This song was inspired by the message of the Gospel and was written by the composer Eugene Monroe Bartlett, born on December 24, 1885 in Waynesville, a small town in Haywood County, North Carolina. Eventually, Bartlett moved with his family to Arkansas. He studied at the Hall Moody Institute in Tennessee and then at the William Jewell College in Missouri. Raised within a family with values based on the Scriptures, Bartlett learned to love, worship and 24 Impacto evangelistic
glorify God since very young. He loved reading and chanting psalms and, without even realizing, he started to lean towards music. Just as King David, his greatest joy was singing to God and praise the Love of the Creator with his voice. Bartlett grew up with his lips full of praises, worshiping God in the beauty of his holiness. Over the years, Bartlett became a successful businessman and did not hesitate for a moment to offer his financial resources for the growth of Christianity. He established Hartford Music Company, through which he published several musical books and a Christian magazine called “Herald of Song”. Influenced by his calling, Bartlett also set up a music institute. Then, as he became increasingly involved in this work, his passion for melodies devoted to our
Savior grew dramatically and changed his life. The ministry of Bartlett was very fruitful, maybe more than he had imagined. His music institute was one of the most important vocal education centers in the United States at the time. Bartlett hired the best instructors to teach vocal technique, tuning, harmony and string instruments. His offer attracted many talented artists who later became prominent gospel music performers. While doing this work, Bartlett published a large number of hymns that were well received immediately. Throughout his 56 years of life, Bartlett wrote more than eight hundred hymns. The last one was “Victory in Jesus”, which he wrote in 1939 in pretty grim circumstances. That year, Bartlett had had a stroke that left him partially paralyzed

and put an end to his trips and conferences. Amidst this affliction, he wrote this hymn, the lyrics of which overflow with optimism and faith. Since this praise came to the fore, it has been sung by millions of people around the world due to its deep biblical message. Eugene Monroe Bartlett married Joan Tatum and became the father of two great man of faith. Two years after he wrote “Victory in Jesus”, Bartlett departed this life and came to the Lord on January 25, 1941. The man of great revivals The inspiring story of a fragile man who was a giant of faith and commitment to Jesus Christ: John Wesley. Johan Pérez Landeo
J
OHN WESLEY was born within the poorest and humblest England Rectory and left this world after fervently enriching it with his redeemed personality. When he was young, his father was deep in debt; however, the world owed him in his time such a gratitude that time will never be able to pay. John experienced the hardest of life. He experienced poverty but also richness of the soul. After a hard childhood, he became the master of the most important revolution of our time. Basil Miller, a religious author, describes in his book “John Wesley” the 26 Impacto evangelistic
changing life of the British Christian theologian born on June 17, 1703. Divided into eleven chapters, this story explores as a powerful microscope those events of Wesley’s life that other biographers considered just “too much biographical material”. Thus, Miller gives a new meaning to the biographical sketch of the recognized preacher that inspired the English Methodist movement. Wesley was ordained deacon in Christ Church Cathedral on October 19, 1725 by Dr. John Potter, then Bishop of Oxford, who also admitted him to priest’s orders in the same place on September 22, 1728. As soon as Wesley was ordained, he started an active ministry and, shortly after, he preached his first sermon in South Leigh. Forty six years later, he had the privilege
to preach another sermon in the same place, with the presence of one person who used to be a member of that original congregation. In the introduction to Miller’s book, the author Stephen W. Paine notes, “God needed a man like Wesley for a specific moment and purpose.” “The Lord worked patiently on this fragile instrument, giving him appropriate skills, special education at home and magnificent university education”, he continues. Paine also says, “The Almighty awakened in Wesley the hunger and thirst for the holiness of God, which were satisfied later, and chose him as a powerful herald of salvation”. A golden chain of divine purposes made a perfect unity of Wesley’s life and,

g wherever the skin of his soul is revealed, the strong links of the chain are to be seen. John was the man God chose for a decisive moment, but he was a man in training, who needed the Holy Spirit to prepare him to take part in the Lord’s plan. Oxford and the Holy Club, and then Georgia, were God’s crucibles that prepared Wesley for his great adventure. The work made by Miller, who also wrote the biographies of George Muller, Florence Nightingale and Charles Finney, reasserts the impact of the life and ministry of John Wesley, which goes beyond the borders of England and the limits of Methodism. In his opinion, his compendium of Wesley’s life is an inspiring story about a little and fragile man who was a giant of faith and commitment to Jesus Christ. Also, the author notes that the English pastor left a testimony of salvation and sanctification that is still alive in his hymns ad books. Wesley received the testimony that he was a child of God, and that certainty gave him spiritual intrepidness. Therefore, in this spirit, he felt ready to undertake the work of converting the world through the truth of the message that he had experienced. John wrote to Samuel, his brother, “I think that ever Christian who has not had this experience, should pray until the 28 Impacto evangelistic
LITERATURE Spirit of God gives him the testimony that the is a child of God. I think that this testimony is necessary for my salvation.” In his book, Miller says that Wesley took his work very seriously, sure as he was that God had channeled his life amidst the broad stream of His divine will. He also states that this man of God faced the future, fought bravely, challenged the opposition through the evangelism, and overcame several obstacles through organization. Miller also discovers that if the other preachers would sometimes write against him, he answered the same way and always kept his ear in tune with the voice of the people who came to listen to him. It comes as no surprise that the rabble attacked Wesley and his followers, when clerics expressed their displeasure for them or when bishops fought against them. However, that was the price John Wesley had to pay for the victory of the movement when England and the whole world took him under their shelter. Large crowds came to listen his messages (five, ten or even twenty thousand people), but with the crowd also came the rabble. It is almost unbelievable the number of occasions that John Wesley became a victim of the wrath of his enemies and the serious attempts against his life and the life of his collaborators. The prose of this book
is clear and simple, which allows a fast and dynamic reading for any kind of reader. Thus, in “John Wesley” we become witnesses of the daily the life of a man willing to do anything to preach the Word of God. In this struggle to awaken, convince and redeem a nation, the powerful preacher built step by step, as an expert artisan, a pastoral minis-
of those early leaders or local preachers felt constrained to be heralds of Wesley’s movement in places that had never been explored by the personal ministry of its progenitor. Before his death, Wesley had the privilege to see almost all the islands around Great Britain as gems that were part of his work. There was only a small group of people in Shetlands, Northern Scotland, that had not been reached. “John Wesley”, published in 2011 by Peniel, is a compilation of the most important passages of the testimony of a man that was until the end of his days a fertile writer of Christian texts. On March 2, 1791, this man of God, who was almost 88 years, left this world to meet the Eternal Father. Due to his powerful personality, passion and commitment to Christian faith, Wesley became an important part of the modern history of the Lord’s Church.
try that eventually unified the Church in one single strong body. On the way, his countless evangelistic meetings were also registered. It was very natural that the spiritual offspring of John Wesley took his doctrines wherever it went. Many
When Wesley was young, he married the only love of his life that reigned in his heart: the love to win over lost men for Christ. It is true that others tried to touch his heart, but the desire to win over souls, promote the Reign of God and announce the true Gospel of salvation from sins, was the only thing that owned completely his heart. John Wesley always tried to keep the fire of God constantly blazing in his life, so fervently that others could recognized it and be guided to the same transforming glory u november 2013

The Founder of Sunday Schools The journalist and Christian philanthropist Robert Raikes is recognized as the founder of the educational infrastructure that teaches the Bible and the faith in God every Sunday. His educational work, which began in 1781, still prevails today. Johan Pérez Landeo
T
HE MEMORY OF journalist and Christian philanthropist Robert Raikes is closely connected with the spreading of Sunday schools in Great Britain. Raikes was born in Gloucester on September 14, 1736, the eldest child of Mary Drew and Robert Raikes, a newspaper publisher. In 1757, after his father’s death, Raikes inherited the ownership and managing of the Gloucester Journal and a publishing company. Due to his entrepreneurship, he rapidly became one of the most influential men in his city. 30 Impacto evangelistic
Because his education was based on the Word of God, Raikes was a devout Christian throughout his life. On December 1767, he married Anne Trigge and they had ten children, seven girls and three boys. Despite not having formal seminary studies or Bible training, Raikes always stood out as a good man wanting to help his community. CHRISTIAN PHILANTHROPIST
At the time, the Industrial Revolution had changed the English society. Several children had to work every day to subsist. As a result, children of the lower classes could not attend school and so they roamed the streets on Sundays, their only day off. Raikes could not accept the fact that the poor children of the city had no access to a basic schooling that would contribute to their education. On Sun-
days he would watch from his window the poor, tattered, dirty children who roamed the streets and caused disturbances and riots in the city life, transforming the streets into schools for vice and wickedness. Their parents, due to neglect or extreme poverty, did not feel uncomfortable with this situation. However, Raikes, who employed most of those children to sell his newspaper during the week, was concerned

about their destiny and fate. These children would become thieves, murderers and counterfeiters later on and would be deported by the English government to India or Oceania, thus moving them away from society. Robert Raikes always showed interest in philanthropic movements and, in 1768, he placed in his newspaper an ad in favor of Gloucester’s prisoners. To continue with this endeavor, he took up the cau-
se of Sunday schools and undertook a vigorous campaign that spread his practice (which was local and sporadic at the time) across

g good manners as well as to share the good news of the salvation in Jesus Christ. These meetings were held on Sundays for six hours and Raikes hired different teachers who only received a payment of 25 cents for their job. The initial timetable for classes was from ten in the morning until noon, when the children were allowed to go home to have lunch. Then, they had to go back to school at one in the afternoon; and after reading a lesson, they were taken to the Church. They should recite the catechism lessons until five in the afternoon. Finally, they would come back home without making any noise. Gloucester city started to have a different appearance on the Lord’s Day. Instead of noise and racket, there was peace and quietness. Instead of disputes and quarrels, as before, there was concord and harmony. Instead of lies, oaths and licentiousness, the children progressively steeped in principles of honesty, truth, decency and humility. Instead of watching the children roaming the streets in a state of indolence as painful for the observer as for them, you could see them going to the public worship regularly, happier now than in their previous state of irreligious idleness. On November 3, 1783 Raikes published an article about Sunday schools in his newspaper, which appeared later on in the Gentleman’s Magazine and in 1784 in a letter to the Arminian Ma32 Impacto evangelistic
gazine. Sunday schools were quickly adopted and promoted by different religious groups and were also spread across England. In 1787, seven years later, Raikes’s school was word of mouth and reached 2 000 students. The enthusiasm for the organization was spread in all social classes because the results were tangible and real. MONUMENTAL WORK

his project, which from that day forward received many contributions of wealthy people. This enabled the creation of other schools, which had a positive impact on children’s lives and changed the entire society. At Christmas 1787, Robert Raikes had an audience with the Queen, which led to the opening of new schools visited by George III and imitated in Somerset by Hannah More. In 1790, after 10 years of tenacious evangelizing work, Raikes had distributed through his work 9 200 literacy primers, 25 000 New Testaments and 5
300 Bibles in more than one hundred Sunday Schools with 65 000 students altogether. The idea began as a project to help everybody, particularly children who at the time worked in factories during the week and could not attend schools to receive education. They learned to read, write and perform arithmetic operations. By 1831, Sunday schools in Great Britain received more than 1 250 000 children a week, about twentyfive percent of the population. Because these schools were the first public schools in England, they are considered the precursors of the current public education system in the United Kingdom. In the United States, this Sunday ecclesiastical program was extended to the whole family and included Bible courses for all ages. Such extension also occurred in most countries of Latin America. Described as a “cheerful, talkative, fervent follower of Jesus Christ and a kind-hearted man”, Robert Raikes was able to use his position as owner and editor of the Gloucester Journal to spread the Word of God. He retired from the Gloucester Journal in 1802. After seventy-four fruitful years, Raikes died on April 5, 1811 and was buried in the church of St. Mary-leCripta. His parents, Felix Green and Maria Azor, knew that their son had a methodical live and diet. He was not into excesses or vices. This young man, the eighth of twelve siblings, was a Christian who did not have any kind of bad habits or transgressions that could endanger his health. g His call and rapid promotion to preacher as well as the healing miracles that followed him caused great admiration among the population. However, his dedicated missionary work was relegated by the perceptions of a boy in an increasingly demanding and competitive world. He stopped preaching and pursued secular studies ever since. At the age of 22, Benito Green traveled to the city of Santiago de los Caballeros and was admitted to the National Evangelical University to study pedagogy. Upon completing his studies three years later, medicine became his all-new ambition. Benito Green entered the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra when he was 25 years old. He thought he had discovered his real vocation, but God had another great mission for him. However, “I did not want to obey because I knew how much pastors suffered”. - That is why I did not want to be pastor or preacher, says Green. After one year, he still refused to accept and obey God’s mandate. Then the abdominal pain, dizziness and disability began to overwhelm him and he ended up prostrate. And so he abandoned medicine. THE CALL

to the international evangelist Yiye Avila. The interest grew as the preacher, inspired by God, began to reveal the vicissitudes of a young believer who wanted to become a doctor and could not walk. The coincidence left them speechless. “God tells this young

man that if he doesn’t listen to the His call, he will not heal”, said the preacher repeatedly to the astonishment of Benito. “You should yield to the Lord”, were his mother’s words. After some reflection, Benito Green made up his mind. The obedience to
God’s mandate was the answer. After praying, he took a nap for a few hours. When he woke up, his inert legs woke up as well. Jumping for joy, he set out to announce the miracle. -Alleluia! Glory to God!, he cried.
A few days later, and without hesitation, he came back to school and confirmed once again that medicine was not his vocation but the annunciation of the Gospel. Since then, devotion, service and dedication to this work have become part of Pastor Benito Green and his wife, Alicia Green, with whom he has established a fruitful ministry in Queens County, USA. The false Ecumenism
“That in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” (1 Timothy 4:1) Rev. Luis M. Ortiz
T
HE WORD ECUMENISM is derived from Greek “oikoumené”, which means “the whole inhabited world”. Regarding the preaching of the Gospel, God said: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world - i.e. 40 Impacto evangelistic
“oikoumené” - for a witness unto all nations.” (Matthew 24:14). In its real meaning, the word ecumenical describes something that has a global or universal scope. The Eastern Orthodox Church claims to be ecumenical - i.e. universal or global -, and so does the western church - the Roman Church - which is
called catholic, a synonym of ecumenical or universal. Moreover, some denominations, churches and evangelical organizations have been developing for some years now a super ecumenical structure called the World Council of Churches (WCC) to protect all denominations and evangelical churches in the world under its pallium in a purely human and human-organized effort of human aims. In 1948, when the WCC was founded, it was stated: “We want to be the manifestation of a single Christian Church.” Human action and the spirit of human greatness are evident. At the beginning, the Christian Church was the spiritual communion of several local congregations united by the bond of the Holy Spirit, manifested through the spiritual gifts, the apostolic ministry, the epistles and the visiting preachers. The real unity of the Christian Church is in the Holy Spirit and can only be created by it. Then, the World Council of Churches agreed that the churches belonging to the organization would not be allowed to win over converts - i.e. win souls for the Lord – out of the people that, although not safe, belong to other member churches of the Council. In 1961, at the assembly in New Delhi, the WCC expanded its base for the admission of new members, and so the
Orthodox Catholic churches became members, including the Russian Orthodox Church. It is not secret that this church has to approve and assimilate the materialistic and atheistic points of view of the state system; and so the WCC has to silence its voice against the atheistic materialism. Worst of all, the world press has reported that the WCC, controlled and influenced by the atheistic materialism, allocates substantial amounts from its funds to political purposes, guerrillas and subversion. At the WCC assembly in 1967, the trend of making the Council a cosmic union - i.e. the union of all religions - was clear. In 1968 at the assembly in Upsala, Sweden, the cosmic union, the perfect ecumenism and the global unity were discussed. In 1970, at the assembly in Beirut, Lebanon, there were Pope’s representatives, Protestants, Orthodox and representatives of Islamism, Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as economists and sociologists who advise the churches in their deliberations. Since then, the WCC, in its ecumenical movement, has been very active in its universalistic aim of bringing together not only the evangelical churches but all the pseudo Christian and pagan religions in the world. This ecumenical purpose of unifying all the peoples of the world in the political and religious sphere is clearly predicted in the Bible for the end of the days. The Bible also describes the antichrist as the representation of global political power, and the false prophet as the representation of global religious power, which together
with Satan will form the infernal trinity that will rule the world during the black days of the great tribulation. There are several evangelical churches, prestigious Christian institutions, universities and Christian leaders that reject the WCC and its ecumenical movement. We, the Worldwide Missionary Movement, reject such ecumenical purposes; we want to remain firm in the recognition of the authority of the Bible as the only authority for our lives because this is the infallible and eternal Word of God. The ecumenism tolerates within its bosom teachings and doc-
We firmly believe that the true unity of the Christian Church is not organic but spiritual. This unity is not a part of a super structure but of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is not a man-made unity, but the work of the Holy Spirit. This unity is not the mixture of light with darkness, but the unity of those who walk in the light just as Christ is in the light, and have fellowship one with another. trines contrary to what the Bible teaches. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). We cannot walk together! We believe that in order to create a real unity, there must be a real regeneration, we need to be born again. There is a huge difference between those who are born again and those who are not. For the ecumenism, this difference is not a problem. We cannot walk together! We firmly believe and practice the great commission of Christian Church of preaching the Gospel worldwide and to
any creature whether pagan, orthodox, roman, gothic or nominal or mundane believer; it is necessary to tell everybody, “Except a man be born again, without holiness, no man shall see the Lord” (John 3:3; Hebrews 12:14).
The ecumenism does not put an emphasis on this, nor does it allow its members to do so. We cannot walk together! We firmly believe that the true unity of the Christian Church is not organic but spiritual. This unity is not a part of a super structure but of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is not a man-made unity, but the work of the Holy Spirit. This unity is not the mixture of light with darkness, but the unity of those who walk in the light just as Christ is in the light, and have fellowship one with another (1 John 1:7). The ecumenism is related to darkness, atheistic materialism and paganism. We cannot walk together! The ecumenism today will flow into the turbulent sea of the final apostasy led by the false prophet during the great tribulation. We cannot walk together! Dearly beloved, when we see this rampant spirit of apostasy, there is a warning voice within ourselves, the Holy Spirit reminding us, “That in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” (1 Timothy
4:1). Thus, another great promise of Christ to all his faithful is kept: “Because thou hast kept the
word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Revelation
3:10-11). Amen

not say, “I am a child” or “I cannot talk” because the Lord works miracles. And if you think you are old, you will be renewed by the Lord, and He will give you wisdom and understanding, because He has the power to do so, you only need to place yourself on his hands. Do you know what the secret is? Forehead pressed to the floor, crying, tears, clamor, confession and humility before God; then He will answer. Psalm 115:3-8 says, “But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they speak
DEVOTIONAL not: eyes have they, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.”
In the past, many parents relinquished their children so that would be burned as offerings; just as we once practiced witchcraft, spiritualism and idolatry by worshiping images of all kind. But we have known a God who has cleansed us of all these aberrations for which we were dragged by the Devil, whom God has placed under our feet and whose head we can crush because God has given us that power. “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19).
Our God wants to do great things and wants to use you under His Power and Glory. What science, psychiatrists or psychologists cannot achieve, Jesus Christ can. Neither threats, nor blows, nor prison, nor worldly things, nor human capabilities can change a man or a woman, but our God has the power to do so. Nowadays, there are millions of people changed, transformed and liberated by the power of God, the Lord of hosts, and his Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, all around the world. The man who serves God needs to be vested with the Power and Glory of God to triumph in all life circumstances, and therefore obtain the victory. There are very thorough sermons and people who preach very nice but whose
churches are empty, without new souls, demoniacs saved or sick healed; there is simply no manifestation of the Power and Glory of God. What we need to do is to be humble, to kneel in obeisance and to cry out to God. Then the arm of Jehovah will be with us. What we need to triumph is the anointing from above, the power of the Holy Spirit. We need men and women of faith who believe in God and His precious Word and act in the name of the Lord. He has told us not to be concerned about what we are going to say because in due time the Holy Spirit will give us the necessary words. We do not need doctorates, eloquence or beautiful and thorough sermons prepared in advance, but the manifestation of the Power and Glory of God. The Devil is furious because he knows that his time is short. Through the media, radio waves and the internet we are getting into the haunt of Satan, and we have interrupted his activities with the power of the Word of God. Everything was created by Him: thrones, jurisdictions, principalities, angels, archangels and cherubim. However, He did not create the Devil, but He created a beautiful cherub who got proud. God celebrated on the day he created this cherub, who end up hurting himself for wanting to be like God. Those who want to be great and important, lose esteem in the eyes of God, because He is looking for simple people. God does not like pride, haughtiness, arrogance and self-sufficiency. He likes those who are
humble, who do not feel important, who recognize that all the glory and honor belong to God, now, tomorrow and always. Those who know that we should depend entirely on Him and that we should not depend on our own knowledge but on the knowledge, power and glory of God. So lean on the Lord and not on your own wisdom, trust Jehovah, wait patiently in Him and He will act. We need to inspire new believers. Christ said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33). We are in a pitched battle, the Lord has given us the power of His glory and if we are in holiness and integrity, we will go ahead. We will be head and not tail, we will be on top not below, this is what God promises us. We will frighten away the Devil and the demons because the Almighty is with us. The Almighty said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
(Matthew 28:18). Acknowledge the Lord as the Almighty. Do not forget the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. If you are being attacked by demons of lust, fight the battle in the name of Jesus Christ, be humble and confess the situation to God, asking for the anointing and His power to triumph. To attain glory we need to detach from evil and sin. Ask for forgiveness and be faithful, pray, fast, and He will set you free. Because there is power in the name that is above every name, in the name of Jesus, to be fully alive and under the power of the Holy Spirit and His glory. Amen u november 2013

g of the theologians’ so-called “eternity.” Look for one bitter moment. Could anything be less intelligent and unmanly than a drinking match? The prize winner is the last man still standing on his feet when all others, grunting like hogs, have fallen to the floor, unconscious in drink. This is a sport not of stone-age men, but of the new intellectuals, satiated in body, stained in soul, and recklessly abandoned to iniquity! Loaded with lechery, gutted with gambling, damned in drink, such men (who are adult in body, but moral imbeciles) whine out Lord Byron’s lament: “I now have ashes where once I had fire, The soul of my body is dead; The thing I once loved, I now merely admire, My heart is as gray as my head.” If the Church had something vital and victorious to offer, these men who choose golf clubs by day and night clubs by night might be drawn from these fleshpots. Since in their freedom men will not heed God, will He have to enslave to the atheist countries the mighty millions of America so that they might have time to remember His day, His way, and His Son? Better to die bound in body and free in spirit than free in body and bound in soul! We stand aghast when we see fine men magnetized by science, but mystified by the Christian religion. When these have forsaken faith, they feed on films 46 Impacto evangelistic
and football. In the light of “a thousand years being as one day”, it has taken science a matter of mere seconds to bring us from the chuck wagon to the station-wagon, and from the covered-wagon to the Sputnik. But after admitting that science does hold and attract when it drills a hole two miles deep into the earth for oil, and if there is none, does the same thing in the sea - let us seriously consider that science has diabolic and deadly forms too - even lobotomization! Lobotomization is the inhuman, devil-inspired surgery spawned by science. For years this horrible operation on the brain has been a weapon in the hands of dictators. Hitler used it on millions of his own flesh and blood. Stalin is said to have turned over ten million of his slaves into living Zombies with this simple operation, which takes only five minutes to perform. Afterwards the victim is said to be irrevocably insane. The patient is strapped to an operating table. Electrodes are attached to the temple; three jolts of electricity are shot through the patient’s brain, enough to start violent convulsions which finally give way to anesthetic coma. The doctor then takes his leucotomes and inserts them under the patient’s eyelids and severs the prefrontal lobes of the brain from the rest of it. The result? A zombie that will obey without questions. Fifteen zombies can be made by scientists in ninety minutes. To add to this,
we have the alarming news that there are probably 100 000 lobotomized people in the United States, according to George Conitz in Liberty League News. When enlightened men dehumanize other men in this fashion, it is time to stop and ask if the great Goddess of Science has not received too much veneration from men. Keeping lobotomized millions in mind, meditate on this from the pen of famed Bertrand Russell, whose “Principles of Logic” has made him the uncrowned king of modern philosophers: “Man now needs for his salvation only one thing: to open his heart to joy, and leave fear to gibber through the glimmering darkness of a forgotten past. He must lift up his eyes and say: ‘No, I am not a miserable sinner; I am a being who, by a long and arduous road, has discovered how to ... master natural obstacles, how to live in freedom and joy, at peace with myself and, therefore, with all mankind.’” Would it be hard to persuade yourself that this “false prophet” of peace is dedicated to deception, consciously or otherwise? The same Bertrand Russel has trouble in trying to accept the incarnation. But would the relatives of the massacred Hungarians think his message a gospel of hope? lievers marching to Zion - with sacks on the bodies and ashes on the shaking heads, shaking at the calamity that has brought the Church to be the unlovely unnerved, unproductive thing that she is! If we wept as much in the prayer closet as devout Jews have done at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, we would now be enjoying a prevailing, purging revival! If we would return to apostolic practice - waiting upon the Lord for apostolic power - we could then go forth to apostolic possibilities! This is the hour when we are asked over and over again, “Is everybody ha-
ppy?” God’s purpose for us is not only happiness, but HOLINESS! Soberness has given way to silliness, even though Paul in writing to Titus warns both young and old: “Be sober.” We surely need again to climb Calvary’s hill on our knees, to survey the wondrous Cross in an attitude of humiliation and adoration. The Church must first repent; then the “world” will break! The Church must first weep; then our altars will be filled with weeping penitents. At the very pinnacle of his power, William James, a Professor of Medicine at Harvard University, was
struck down by a mysterious malady. His nerves were upset. He had insomnia and deep depression, but knew no cure for himself. He dashed off to Europe. Would Berlin have the answer? No door of hope opened. What about Vienna? The same answer. Might not Paris shelter a cure? But the panacea was not there. Despair was heightening. London was near, but his call was but an echo. Scotland had eminent sons in this field. But there was no balm in this Gilead either. Back to America he came, the thought of suicide dancing in his brain. At last, a man of prayer and of great faith for healing was recommended. Faith healing was anathema to William James, the distinguished philosopher and famed psychologist. His acute mind and mental training strongly protested against going this way. But needs must. James went. The simple, unlettered man of God put his humble hands on William James’ head, who later said, “I felt a mysterious energy thrilling and tingling through my body which was followed by a sense of peace. I knew I was healed!” To cure the raging ills of this maddened world, the “Abana of Science” and the “Pharpar of Politics” are more attractive to our stubborn wills and warped intellects than the wondrous Cross. But for mankind to be made whole, we shall have to be as humble as William James was by getting back to the Cross of Jesus and its life-giving stream u november 2013

What Job learned through suffering Through pain and suffering, God taught Job one of the most important lessons that human beings can ever learn: absolute trust in the Lord.
T
HE NAME “Job” means “persecuted” or “object of hostility.” Job’s story begins when God challenges Satan and puts into question Satan’s argument that no one would ever obey Him unless their selfish motives and desires were satisfied. “And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”
(Job 1:8). Job was the ideal person for God to refute Satan’s theory that human beings could only be motivated by the fulfilment of their selfish, greedy desires. “Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for

nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.” (vv.
9-11). God wanted to show the falseness of this argument and therefore “the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.” (v. 12).
By allowing Job to suffer, God was allowing him to learn one of the most important lessons that human beings can ever learn. But this also teaches us that this way God tests the righteous. “The Lord trieth the righteous”
(Psalm 11:5). And Jeremiah 17:10 says: “I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” Job
was no exception. Here are some of the
highlights of Job’s test. Job had “seven sons and three daughters” and “seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.” (vv. 2-3).
Satan’s attack caused the death of his ten children and the destruction of his property and wealth. “In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly” (v. 22). Then Satan “smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.” (Job 2:7). Job
was filled with self-pity:
“Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?” (Job 3:11).
But still he refused to sin or blaspheme against God. His three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, came “to mourn with him and to comfort him.” (Job 2:11) They were of little comfort! Eliphaz reasoned this way: “Remember, I pray thee, who ever pe-
REFLECTIONS proud, and abase him. Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.” (Job
40:8-14). Job complained that he could not understand why God had let a righteous person be afflicted by ungodly people. So God challenged Job to offer his solutions. Job had none! In this regard, he was no different from the millions of people today who complain that God is not fair but have no alternatives to solve the dilemma. Finally, Job’s discussion made him understand that God knows what He is doing and is able to finish what He has started! Job answered God: “I know that
rished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?” (Job 4:7). And Zophar said: “Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth, that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?”
(Job 20:4-5). The book of Job is filled with similar arguments. But these arguments were rejected not only by Job, but also by God in the conclusion. Throughout this tribulation, Job’s attitude was: “My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.” (Job 27:6). His
confidence in his own judgment seemed very solid. But Job’s innocence of
sin didn’t mean that his relationship with God was perfect or that his faithfulness could remain unchanged even though his life had changed so drastically. He still had things to learn. While it is true that Job did not want to kill himself, he pleaded with God to let him die, an attitude of hopelessness. God replied: “Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is
thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes” (Job
42:2-6). God has revealed only a basic outline of how He plans to eliminate the problem of evil and the suffering it causes. We do not always know why God allows certain things to happen while prevents others from happening. Job had to learn to trust God even in difficult times. God expects us to do that too! u november 2013

E COUNTED on the presence of brothers from the city of Artigas Capital, where a temple is being built on recovered land. In the meantime, worships are held in the village of Pintadito, on the
outskirts of the metropolis. There we have a property where the temple is temporarily built with wood and plastic until completion of the final constructions. It was in this humble place where the two-day fellowship
took place and the presence of God moved. Brothers from the city of QuaraĂ, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, also attended this activity. The Work in this city is under the supervision of Uruguay, and Pastor Gilberto Silva leads
the Work in QuaraĂ and Artigas. Brothers from the departments of Montevideo and Canelones also came together for this fellowship. Pastor Juan Quintela preached the Word of God on the first day, and Rev. Alfonso Martinez, National Supervisor of the Work in Uruguay, did it on the second day. It was a beautiful fellowship. In these cities, many new souls are taking the first steps and we trust that the Lord will keep up His Work u november 2013

The new Work in Mendoza is still growing with God’s help. Every day, more and more souls come and become part of the young congregation. On October 1, the second baptisms took place in this city in western Argentina, close to the Republic of Chile. Four brothers descended into the waters of baptism to testify their conviction to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. Then, the new place rented to continue the work was visited. It is a small building where the evangelistic work began. We thank God for His love and support to those responsible for the Work in this city, Mr. and Ms. Cuellar, who with abnegation and determination decided to start the Work here.

The Church of the Lord obtained another important victory in the city of Genoa, where the only Christian bookstore in the city was opened. This bookstore, which the Lord placed in the hands of the Worldwide Missionary Movement, will publish the name of God so that the churches of Christ are edified through bibles, biblical dictionaries and books. All the people will increase their knowledge and understanding about the fear of God. We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for His support every day in this country, and we declare with faith that greater things will continue to happen around the world. The event was attended by Rev. Rodolfo González Cruz, International Officer of the Work.
The Worldwide Missionary Movement in Panama celebrated the Month of the Bible and the World Mission Day with many activities. The different churches in Panama performed marches, dramas, costume parades from different countries, and projected videos to highlight and instill in believers the need to pray and to financially support the Work. Likewise, activities were carried out to highlight the value of the Holy Scripture. The great treasures and promises that we find in the Bible were displayed in murals.
On Sunday October 13, the Church of the Worldwide Missionary Movement in Guatemala held an Evangelistic Service in the region of Mesilla, Huehuetenango, which belongs to the Presbytery 16. Sister Mónica López Del Angel (pastor in Margaritas, Chiapas, Mexico), together with the pastors from the Presbytery of Pastor Abraham Enriquez (Presbyter in Guatemala) attended this activity. Sister López preached on the theme: “How much do you love God”, based on the life of King Asa (2 Chronicles 14:1-8). A big group of lives surrendered to Christ, the Word of God touched the listeners, and many of them affirmed their faith in the Lord.
REALITY
Can a Christian listen to Rock music?
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16.
T
HE LYRICS of some rock songs are saturated with references to suicide, death, depression, loneliness, extramarital sex in all its violent and repulsive forms, drugs, abortion, rebellion and Satanism. They tell the youth of this generation that there is no future, everything is ephemeral and hope is illusory. This music conveys despair, anxiety, madness, escape through drugs and a negative attitude toward God and life. Psychiatrists, psychologists, teachers, doctors and other professionals have also expressed their concern about the messages fired off to children and young people. Critics count 18 acts of violence in each hour of MTV videos.
The rock and roll empire does not care how degrading and perverse some music may be, or how much damage this may do to young people, because its god is money. This business is very lucrative and Rock bands become millionaires very fast. The manager of one of the most famous Rock bands once said: “If you study Rock music, you will see that this has gone through four stages, each of them appealing to a phase of human personality. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, Rock appealed almost entirely to sex. In the late 60’s and early 70’s, we made youth aware of their spirit and involved them in different causes. It was in those years that Rock was associated with drugs. In the late 70’s, we created an addiction to violence; it was a new way of selling. We have now found the
best motivation for buying a product: religious commitment. No human commitment is as deep as religious commitment. So we have decided that we will soon have religious worships at our concerts. We will make pacts or agreements with Satan to pray for the sick to be healed and leave their wheelchairs. Then we will proclaim ourselves the messiah and will be worshiped.” Many of today’s secular songs are saturated with occultism and Satanism. Many of them speak of Satan as their leader. In rock concerts, a mass hysteria overpowers the audience, who sing, dance and raise their hands worshiping their god. The spirit behind that music affects the listeners, causing things that the world cannot understand. So we read in the newspapers that sometimes when young people leave rock concerts, they do it chaotically: running, screaming, jumping over cars and breaking glasses. Listening to some rock music means being in commune with the powers of darkness. In other words, it means inviting demons to visit us. The mind is exposed to satanic oppression and can be easily possessed. Some of this music is demonically inspired. However, there is another kind of music that is inspired by God and brings peace, joy, and wellbeing. Enjoy this kind of music, which is full of praises to God. It brings freedom into your life, your soul and your spirit u november 2013
