The unspoiled charm of Martha?s Vineyard is probably best exemplified by the many scenic beaches located here. The sandy shorelines vary widely from protected and shallow, clear-water stretches on the northern and eastern sides of the island to vast expanses of pounding surf and cliffs along the south side. Below are some of the best loved public and private beaches.

Norton Point

Great Rock Bight

This shoreline previously connected Left Fork Beach with Wasque and Chappaquiddick. Today this picturesque island beach destination is also popular for allowing over- sand driving with a permit.

Beautiful hike (approx one mile) from parking lot to an overlook and pristine crescent beach. Great for exercise, and even better for sunset!

Lucy Vincent Beach Sand, surf, and bluffs on the Chilmark section of South Shore; private beach available to Chilmark residents only.

Long Point Wildlife Refuge Stunning wildlife refuge and nature reserve on the South Shore that includes beach access and ponds plus trails for hiking, picnicking, and kayaking. Owned and regulated by The Trustees of Reservations.

West Tisbury, MA

East Beach (Cape Pogue Wildlife Refuge & Wasque Reservation)

Moshup Beach Often overlooked by tourists, this half- mile stretch of pristine coastline is remote and not as crowded as many nearby shorelines. The Aquinnah Cliffs serve as the backdrop to this spectacular, yet peaceful beach option.

Joseph Sylvia State Beach This 2- mile stretch of sandy beach and shallow water was a main shooting location in the classic shark film ?Jaws.? Also includes scenic shoreline bike path. Lifeguard on duty; parking is easily accessible.

Lambert?s Cove Beach

Considered one of the best public beaches by locals; located on Chappaquiddick Island. Owned and regulated by The Trustees of Reservations.

Considered by many to have the finest sand and clearest water on the North Shore. This beach opens to the public after 5pm for the best sunset views.
