PROJECT INTRODUCTION In an era defined by intensifying climate change, rising sea levels, and acute land scarcity, coastal and island communities face unprecedented existential threats. This project addresses the critical housing deficit in the Maldives by proposing a Disaster-Resilient Floating Housing Community situated within the dynamic marine ecosystem of the K. Dhiffushi Lagoon.

Families physically together but emotionally strained due to overcrowding and lack of privacy. “Broken Connection” symbolizes how blood bonds are tested when younger adults can’t establish independent housing. Aims to hel this fracture by creating new living space.

The island breathes heavy under the weight of a thousand foreign footprint. The true children of the soil are pushed to the very edge of the island, their homes squeezed in to the forgotten margins of a paradise sold to strangers. Here land is a luxury they cannot afford, and the simple right to a roof has become a quiet enduring ache.

In the narrow, crowded alleys that remain, a silent storm brews. The elders cast their eyes to the ocean, holding tightly to the fading threads of a culture slipping through their calloused hands. Besides them, the youth look towards the horizon with restless eyes, frustrated by the chains of old ways that offer no space to grow, and no room to breathe. They share the same blood but speak different languages of longing, separated by a deep invisible sea of time.

But the ocean, vast & unclaimed, whispers a new promise. If the land has no room left to give, they will build upon the tides. Thus, the vision of the floating community is born.

It is not just a structure, it is a sanctuary woven from the water itself, rising and falling with the rhythmic breath of the sea. Stepping off the crowded, contested shores, the islanders claim a new horizon. Here on buoyant platforms that dance with the waves, they find the space they were denied.

The floating realm becomes the great bridge between yesterday and tomorrow. The generational gap closes as hands meet over the water.
